The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of science writing on organizing scientific knowledge and improving science process skills and science attitude, as science educators have indicated. For this study, two classes of $5^{th}$ grade students were chosen in the same elementary school. Subjects were divided into an experimental and a control group. The students in the experimental group took part in a science writing program for 14 lessons of science classes. The students in the control group were taught according to the traditional science program using standard science textbooks. To identify the effects of science writing, both groups' students were tested on science achievement, science process skills, and science attitude before the program implementation and were tested on science concept, science process skills, science attitude after the program implementation. The results of this study showed that the experimental group gains significantly higher scores than the control group in science concept and science attitude, but there was no significant difference on science process skills for either group. In conclusion, science writing had positive effects on science concept and science attitude of elementary school students, helping them to express their thinking logically and systematically, but science process skills were not affected.
The purpose of this study is to improve a good sense of language through professors' reduced role and university students' cooperative learning with overcoming the limit of existing English teaching materials and learning methods. Frist, the cooperative learning in university general English classes made a difference in the improvement of English speaking ability (accuracy, fluency, complexity). Second, the cooperative learning in university general English classes made a difference in confidence of learning and interest in learning among the affective achievement but there's no difference in study attitude and learning motivation. Third, the cooperative learning in university general English classes made a difference in the effect of the improvement of English speaking ability (accuracy, fluency, complexity) on the confidence of learning and interest in learning of the affective achievement, but there's no difference in study attitude and learning motivation.
The purpose of this study is to examine changes in Korean middle school students' affective attitudes toward mathematics over the past 5 cycles of TIMSS. To this end, we first analyzed the changes in students' affective attitudes towards mathematics in five major countries, and then analyzed the changes in Korean students' affective attitudes toward mathematics by item. As a result of the study, there were positive changes in Korean students' interest, confidence, and value perception of mathematics during the recent 5 cycle of TIMSS. Korean male students' affective attitude toward mathematics is higher than that of female students, and the gender gap has been increasing recently. There was a large difference in the affective attitudes toward mathematics among Korean students, depending on their achievement level, and in particular, the affective attitudes toward mathematics of students at the lower achievement level remained significantly low. Item-level analysis revealed a decrease in Korean students' awareness of the necessity of mathematics in daily life. Based on these results, we discussed the implications for cultivating Korean students' affective attitudes. It is hoped that the results of this study will be meaningfully used as basic data for examining the performance of mathematics education in Korea and contribute to developing measures to foster students' positive attitudes toward mathematics.

In this study, relationships between student the cognitive affective characteristics and conceptual understanding from individual computer-assisted instruction were investigated. Tests regarding field dependence-independence, learning strategy, self-regulated ability, visual learning preference, goal orientation, self-efficacy on ability, and computer attitude were administered. After having been taught by means of a CAl program, a conception test on molecular motion was administered. It was found that student conceptual understanding was significantly related to field independence, learning strategy, self-regulated ability among the cognitive characteristics and visual learning preference, goal orientation, self-efficacy on ability among the affective characteristics. Multiple regression analysis of the cognitive characteristics on conceptual understanding found that field dependence-independence was the most significant predictor. Self-regulated ability and a deep learning strategy were also found to have predictive power. Lastly, analysis of the affective characteristics, visual learning preference and self-efficacy on ability exposed them to be significant predictors of student conceptual understanding.
The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of science journal writings on the cognitive and affective features of the science gifted students. In this research, the tasks of on-line science journal writings were assigned for 6 months and the subjects in this study were 21 students of Chemistry Division of the Center for Science Gifted Education, Seoul National University. Consequently in science journals, science concepts are found in various aspects according to the writing formats, and psychological and behavioral characteristics of the science-gifted are revealed in positive or negative aspects. In cognitive prospect, science journal writing equips students with better understanding about science concepts and scientific research. In affective prospect, science journal writing help students improve observation and attitude toward science as wren as writing skills. Accordingly, science journal writing has positive effect on cognitive and affective characteristics of the science-gifted. In conclusion, acknowledged by most of science-gifted students as both beneficial and appropriate in their education program, science journal writing should be emphasized in education for science-gifted students.
This study investigates the relationships of perfectionism and the affective traits(academic self-concept, learning attitude, interest, mathematical anxiety, learning habits) in mathematics between the gifted students and the regular students in Korean Middle Schools. The findings of this study can be used for the understanding of the gifted students, and as data or resources for counsellors when they advise the gifted students on enhancing study strategies and developing future courses. This study was investigated by measuring the relationships between perfectionism and the affective traits on mathematics between two groups. Here, the correlation analysis, t-test, and regression analysis of the SPSS for Window 12.0 Program were applied to measure the differences of both groups. Therefore, there were no differences in perfectionism between the gifted students and the regular students. But the self-oriented perfectionism of the gifted students appeared higher compare with regular students. The affective traits in mathematics of the gifted students appeared more positive compare with regular students. There were a few correlations between the perfectionism and the affective traits in mathematics at two group all. however the self-oriented perfectionism and the affective traits in mathematics showed to correlation. There were several suggestions based on the results of this study. First, the results showed that professional assistance is needed for the gifted students so that their perfectionism flows positively into developing their gifts. Secondly, the results suggested that specialized mathematical program reflecting on the affective traits of the gifted students in mathematics should be offered.Lastly, tthe results of this study suggested a researcher regarding relevance with perfectionism and affective traits regarding subject shall be performed more. The result of research shall be included to contents of training for the gifted students and their parents.
Advertising is the most powerful marketing communication tool. Fashion magazines are a popular media for fashion advertising because of their multi-color visual printing. In this study, the interest in and attitude toward fashion advertising were investigated with high school girls in Seoul, along with their interrelation with buying experience and post-purchase satisfaction. The consciousness of the endorser and the fashion of celebrities both increased with rising interest in fashion advertisement. However, the brand orientation showed no relationship with the interest in fashion advertisement. The interest in fashion advertisement was useful to explain buying experience with limited variance. The correlation between brand orientation and buying experience increased with rising interest in fashion advertisement, indicating that those with little interest in fashion advertisement showed strong dependence on brand loyalty. Those with more interest in fashion advertisement counted distinctive aspects of fashion advertisement more seriously. Affective aspects of fashion advertisement showed a correlation with buying experience and post-purchase satisfaction.
This paper is to help the students in elementary schools develop and improve their English listening and speaking skills by presenting effective teaching and learning techniques using puppetry. It is absolutely obvious that listening and speaking are very important skills for most EFL students. Using puppets in the classroom is a creative English teaching technique which can involve authentic, communicative language situations. Moreover, puppets appeal to children and can aid in lowering affective filters thereby creating a more comfortable learning environment. The study clearly showed that using puppets is feasible and enjoyable in elementary English classes. However, caution must be exercised in drawing and generalizing conclusions from this experience. The results of the experiment are as follows: First, using puppetry in the English class was found to have positive influence on students' affective domains (interst, attitude). Second, using puppets in the English classes was found to be efficient for improving students' English listening and speaking skills. Third, appropriate materials should be selected and well thought-out plans should be made to be successful English class using puppetry. Perhaps the most interesting line of future research is to use qualitative research to examine the effect of this technique on the teacher variable. Further research is recommended, especially on using puppetry for speaking proficiency and creating affectively comfortable learning atmospheres.

This study examines the role of consumer perception of social presence in e-tailing websites. The study proposes that the perception of social presence influences the variables that are important for e-tailers to build a relationship with consumers, which are the attitudes of consumers toward an e-tailer and patronage intentions toward the e-tailer. This study hypothesizes that the attitudes of consumers are influenced by individual perceptions of social presence that guide their patronage intentions. Consumer trust and their affective states are hypothesized to serve as mediators in the relationship between consumer perception of social presence and the attitudes toward an e-tailer. Sixty-one female students were used to test the proposed model. The findings from regression and mediation analyses supported all hypotheses, suggesting that the perception of social presence plays a significant role in consumer shopping habits for apparel: consumer perception of social presence influences consumer trust and affective states that modify attitudes toward an e-tailer and consumer patronage intentions. The theoretical and managerial implications for apparel e-tailers are discussed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate interaction patterns and characteristics of small group discussions during elementary school science classes. Four heterogeneous groups were formed according to preferences and non-preferences, consisting of male and female students. Verbal interactions during small group discussions were audio and videotaped, transcribed and analyzed. The interaction frequency of each group was compared in terms of their cognitive and affective aspects. The results in terms of the cognitive aspect showed that there were no significant differences in the frequency of interaction between preference and non-preference groups' verbal behaviors. However, the quality of interaction was superior and the number of high level types of interaction were more frequent in the preference group. From the affective perspective, both groups of students exhibited a positive attitude in the preference group and a negative attitude in the non-preference group. The differences of interaction between the male and female student's groups were that in the case of the female group, the frequency and the quality of interaction was higher. Moreover, in contrast to male students, female students revealed satisfaction and favorable attitudes in their non-preference group because they felt more a acceptable atmosphere and attitude in that group. These results suggest that the interactions of the preference group are more interactive and elaborate in nature than those of the non-preference group.
