  • An aero-acoustic performance analysis method of regenerative blower is developed as one of the FANDAS codes. The aerodynamic performance of regenerative blower is predicted by using momentum exchange theory coupled with pressure loss and leakage flow models. Based on the performance prediction results, the noise level and spectrum of regenerative blower are predicted by discrete frequency and broadband noise models. The combination of the performance and the noise prediction methods gives aero-acoustic performance map and noise spectrum analysis results, which are well-agreed with the actual measurement results within a few percent relative error.

  • In modern days, automobiles are the most important means of transportation. With the development of automobiles, noises generated during operation has been recognized as a significant factor of performance to provide drivers with better driving environment along with other passengers. In this study, drone noise(pulsating noise), generated at the rear window when its opened, is predicted to understand the physics of its phenomenon at various velocities. The compressible Navier-stokes equation will be used with $6^{th}$ order compact finite difference scheme to analyze the characteristics.

  • Integrated tools are developed for the analysis of the aerodynamic performance and aeroacoustics of helicopter rotors. Heli-NK(Helicopter Navier-Stokes & Kirchhoff) code is for hovering and heli-PA(Helicopter Panel & Acoustic analogy) for forward flight. The former showed its ability to predict the hovering efficiency and high-speed impulsive noise level. Thrust calculation, noise levels, and noise directivity patterns are investigated to confirm the availability of the latter. With some proper validation and improvements. these codes will be more useful and practical.

  • Small axial fans have become widely used as cooling devices in recent years. Because of their increasing importance, studies have been conducted on ways to improve the performance and reduce the noise of such fans. In this report, a small axial fan with a diameter of 85 mm (a type popularity used in personal computer or workstation) was selected for further examination. The influence on aerodynamic performance and noise of such frame design parameters as blade tip clearance results in a decrease of discrete frequency noise and an increase of broad-spectrum noise. As for the most suitable design refinement in terms of fan efficiency, we found that the treatment of outlet corner roundness and altering spoke skew to the direction counter to that of fan rotation was effective.

  • Aerodynamic noise is becoming the major source of annoyance for modern cars recently and is caused by many different noise sources in a car. Appropriate CFD technologies, therefore, have been developed to resolve the noise problems related with aerodynamics. It is necessary for designers to fully understand the relationship between vehicle aerodynamics and wind noise acoustics. In this study, we simulate the flow fields around two different shapes of side mirror models of passenger car and analyze the noise phenomena around one side mirror model that has lower drag than the other model using Fluent 6.3.

  • The reduction of noise from wind turbines has been studied using various methods. Some examples include controlling wind turbine blades, designing low-noise-emitting wind turbine blades, and using trailing-edge serrations. Among these methods, serration is considered an effective noise reduction method. Various studies have aimed to understand the effects of trailing-edge serration parameters. Most studies, however, have focused on fixed-wing concepts, and few have analyzed noise reduction or developed a prediction method for rotor-type blades. Herein, a noise prediction method, composed of two noise prediction methods for a wind turbine with trailing-edge serrations, is proposed. From the flow information obtained by an in-house program (WINFAS), the noise from non-serrated blades is calculated by turbulent ingestion noise and airfoil self-noise prediction methods. The degree of noise reduction caused by the trailing-edge serrations is predicted in the frequency domain by Lyu's method. The amount of noise reduction is subtracted from the predicted result of the non-serrated blade and the total reduction of the noise from the rotor blades is calculated.

  • For the modern aircraft, uncertainty has bee an important issue to its aeroelastic stability. Therefore, many researches have been conducted regarding this topic. The uncertainties in the aeroelastic system amy consist of the structural and aerodynamic uncertainty. In this paper, we suggest a parametric uncertainty modeling and conduct the aeroelastic stability analysis of a typical wing including the uncertainty.

  • Noise emitted by driving cars affects our daily life, penetrating wherever man lives or works. There are three types of possible sound emitting processes that are aerodynamic sources, air pumping and tire vibration. In this paper, a theoretical model has been studied to describe the sound radiation by the surface vibration of running tires and experimental verification has been conducted to evaluate sound radiation characteristic due to tire vibration.

  • Nonlinear aeroelastic characteristics of a missile control surface are investigated in this study. The wing model has freeplay structural nonlinearity at its pitch axis. Nonlinear aerodynamic flows with unsteady shock waves are also considered in high-speed flow region. To effectively consider a freeplay structural nonlinearity, the fictitious mass method (FMM) is applied to structural vibration analysis based on finite element method (FEM). (omitted)

  • The source of wayside noise for the train are the aerodynamic noise, wheel/rail noise, and power unit noise. The major source of railway noise is the wheel/rail noise caused by the interaction between the wheels and rails. The Structure borne noise is mainly a low frequency problem. The train noise and vibration nearby the elevated railway make one specific issue. The microphone array method is used to search sound radiation characteristics of elevated structure to predict the noise propagation from an elevated railway. In this paper, the train noise and structure borne noise by train are measured. From the results, we investigated the effect on the sound absorption tunnel for elevated railway.
