  • Sujeong-Dong garden heritage is a unique, valuable villa garden constructed by Gosan Yoon Sun-Do during middle Joseon period. However, the site has been faced on damage risk because of the development of near quarry. The purpose of the study is to suggest careful maintenance plan for the valuable Korean traditional garden heritage. For the plan, the study conducts the interview of residents and experts, literature review, the investigation of historical materials, site survey, and the analysis of aerial photography. The results are following: Firstly, the paper divides the site into three types of an excavation area: core, recommend and investigation. Secondly, of remained Gosan's one and remains of unknown contents, it has the plan of vegetation maintenance, safety facilities, pathway maintenance, and service area. Thirdly, it also suggests pathway plan for authentic garden promenade according to the literature of Sanjungsingok(山中新曲), site survey, and interviews with residents and experts. The study has a special meaning for an insightful approach based on the accurate site survey, research, and the consideration of practical use.

  • Low-carbon Green Growth is highlighted as the main political issue from in and outof Korea. Recently Korean government announced the vision for low-carbon green growth. Considering this as a starting point the carbon emission estimation has become an important factor in the city planning. In order to realize the carbon reduction planning, this research was focused on the trend analyzes between the carbon exhaust estimation as well as the land use change for the past 40 years in Jinju. The image processing data of past aerial photography and the land suitability assessment databases were used to collect the useful information's for the land trend analysis for 40 years. As the results, the land use changes by new residential developments have led to increase the carbon emissions and population concentration rapidly. The urban management planning for low carbon and green growth should consider carbon emissions by population growth derived from land use change. Further research need to estimate the accurate carbon exhaust using relationship model with fuel consumption, carbon estimation, and land use.

  • This study set up a purpose in the efficient utilization of security target objects. This purpose is the following: Firstly, this study analyzed problem about deleted areas for security described on aerial photography image. Secondly, this study made clustering and labeling to recognize censored areas of image. Finally, this study tried to maximize various utilizability of digital image data through postprocessing algorithm. Based on these courses, the results of this study appeared that brightness value of image increased depending on topography and quantities of topographic features. It was estimated that these was able to utilized by useful estimative data in judging information of topography and topographic features included in the total image. Besides, in the image recognition and postprocessing, the better result value was not elicited than in a mountainous region. Because it was included that a lots of topography and topographic features was similarly recognized with the process for deletion of the existing security target objects in urban and suburb region. This result appeared that the topography and quantities of topographic features absolutely affected the recognition and processing of image.

  • The subject of this study is to apply experimentally In resolution stereo imagery of IKONOS to producing 1:50,000 scale maps for Munsan area in Paju, being near the Military Demarcation Line, is inaccessible for aerial photography. Ground control points were acquired from GPS surveying to perform geometric corrections on images. Digital maps were produced from IKONOS stereo imagery on the digital photographic workstation. From field investigation, RMS errors of the plane and vertical positions are estimated respectively at $\pm$1.706m and $\pm$1.231m, respectively. These plane and vertical accuracies are within the tolerance limits of those provided in the NGIS Digital Topographic Map Production Rules. Therefore this suggested method is recommended for producing the large scale digital maps of 'No flight' zone near the M.D.L.

  • Earthquakes can cause serious loss of life and significant property damage. Thus, the study of active faults is important in evaluating future fault activity and hazards caused by future earthquake events. Structural mapping and the tracing of active faults are the primary steps in studies of active faults. Until now, active faults in South Korea have been mapped using aerial photography, satellite images, and low-quality DEMs. Lineament analysis as a means of identifying active faults is relatively difficult in Korea due to geological characteristics (weak tectonic activity) and dense vegetation cover. In this paper, we introduce the basic concept of the LiDAR technique (a new prospective remote sensing method) and a data analysis method that can overcome these problems. This paper will contribute to a better understanding of the airborne LiDAR technique and its application to South Korea. Some preliminary results from Korean and USA LiDAR data show the usefulness of this technique for tracing lineaments, active faults, and terraces in South Korea.

  • Watershed boundaries and flow paths within the watershed are the most important factors required in watershed analysis. Most often the derivation of watershed boundaries and stream network and flow paths is based on topographical maps but spatial variation of flow direction is not clearly understandable using this method. Water resources projects currently use 1: 50, 000-scale ground survey or aerial photography-based topographical maps to derive watershed boundary and stream network. In basins, where these maps are not available or not accessible it creates a real barrier to watershed geo-spatial analysis. Such situations require the use of global datasets, like GTOPO30. Global data sets like ETOPO5, GTOPO30 are the only data sets, which can be used to derive basin boundaries and stream network and other terrain variations like slope aspects and flow direction and flow accumulation of the watershed in the absence of topographic maps. Approximately 1-km grid-based GTOPO 30 data sets can derive better outputs for larger basins, but they fail in flat areas like the Karkheh basin in Iran and the Amudarya in Uzbekistan. A new window in geo-spatial hydrology has opened after the launching of the space-borne satellite stereo pair of the Terra ASTER sensor. ASTER data sets are available at very low cost for most areas of the world and global coverage is expected within the next four years. The DEM generated from ASTER data has a reasonably good accuracy, which can be used effectively for hydrology application, even in small basins. This paper demonstrates the use of stereo pairs in the generation of ASTER DEMs, the application of ASTER DEM for watershed boundary delineation, sub-watershed delineation and explores the possibility of understanding the drainage flow paths in irrigation command areas. All the ASTER derived products were compared with GTOPO and 1:50,000-based topographic map products and this comparison showed that ASTER stereo pairs can derive very good data sets for all the basins with good spatial variation, which are equal in quality to 1:50,000 scale maps-based products.

  • This paper is designed for hardware to be applied to JPEG2000 standard in the fields of digital photography, remote sensing, aerial remote telemetry, medical imaging, high resolution, and high compression telemetry applications. The software implementation of the JPEG2000 standard for image compression has disadvantages that the processing speed is very slow compared to the conventional JPEG, also the degradation occurs when the DWT level of the JPEG2000 standard is improved. In order to solve this problem, we designed and applied JPEG2000 compression/decompressor. In this paper, the hardware of the JPEG 2000 compression/storage device shows optimal compression speed, faster processing speed, and the image quality for still images by changing the optimal DWT level.

  • Multiple UAV System has been used for various purposes such as reconnaissance, networking and aerial photography. In such systems, it is essential to form and maintain the formation of multiple UAVs. This paper proposes the algorithm that produces an autonomous distributed control for each vehicle for a flexible formation. This command is a repulsive force in the form of the second-order system by the nearest UAV or mission area. The algorithm uses the relative position/speed through sensing and communication for calculating the command without external intervention. The command allows each UAV to follow the reference distance and fill the mission area as densely as possible without overlapping. We determine the reference distance via optimization technique solving the packing problem. The mission area comprises the desired formation outline and can be set flexibly depending on the mission. Numerical simulation is carried out to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm under a complex and flexible environment. The formation is formed in 26.94 seconds and has a packing density of 71.91%.
