  • This is a narrative review of various treatment modalities for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), with a focus on recent updates in radiological treatments, as well as novel treatment concepts related to immune checkpoint inhibitors and combination therapies with locoregional treatments. Interventional radiologists have made efforts toward developing alternative and/or combination treatments for first-line systemic treatment of patients with advanced HCC. Locoregional treatments with or without systemic therapy may be considered in the selected patients. Various treatment modalities for advanced HCC are emerging, and several randomized controlled trials, including those of combination treatments with immunotherapy, are ongoing.

  • Recently, introduction of Advanced water treatment facilities has been increasing due to serious domestic water pollution. Ozone is a strong oxidizing materials in the advanced water treatment facilities. However, due to such a strong oxidation, Ozone eroded waterproofing/corrosion on the concrete surface and caused performance degradation. Therefore, in this study, permeability experiment of metal spraying system by concrete surface treatment was conducted.

  • The effects of alloying elements and the conditions of reverse transformation studied treatment on the formation of retained austenite in 0.15C-6%Mn-(Ti, Nb) steels has been studied. The addition of Ti and Nb to 0.15C-6%Mn steel shows no effect on the formation of retained austenite. In case of reverse transformation treatment at various temperatures, the shape of retained austenite was lath type, growing toward the longitudinal and thickness direction with increasing the heat treatment temperatures. The retained austenite formed by the reverse transformation treatment at higher temperature has a lot of stacking faults induced by the internal stress. The retained austenite was stabilized chemically by enrichment of C and Mn in the vicinity of a untransformed austenite and the chemical stability of retained austenite was decreased with increasing the heat treatment temperature and the holding time. It was effective to heat treat at $650^{\circ}C$ in order to obtain over 30vol.% of retained austenite, but more desirable to heat treat at $625^{\circ}C$ for a long time, considering the amount and quality of retained austenite.

  • The surface of natural graphite was modified by the use of hydrogen peroxide and evaluated as an anode material for lithium ion capacitors (LICs). The surface treatment was carried out under various ultrasonic conditions of 200, 300, and 400W, which were applied to a mixture of natural graphite and hydrogen peroxide solution for 1 h. While the bulk structure was maintained, the hexagonal symmetry and physical properties of natural graphite, such as BET surface area, tap density, and particle size, were affected by the surface treatment. FT-IR and XPS measurements confirmed the signature of C=O on the surface of graphite samples after treatment. Both the pristine and surface-treated graphites showed a similar reversible capacity of $370mAhg^{-1}$, and the coulombic efficiency of surface-treated graphite decreased with higher ultrasonic energies (89.1%, 89.0%, and 88.0% for 200, 300, and 400 W) comparing with pristine graphite (89.4%). The capacity retention of LICs was greatly improved with the treated natural graphite. The graphite treated under the ultrasonic energy of 300 W and pristine natural graphite showed capacity retention of 77.5% and 42.9%, implying that the surface treatment was an effective method for the improvement of natural graphite as an anode material for LICs.

  • Objective: Most patients with advanced breast cancer experience resistance to endocrine treatment and eventual disease progression. This meta-analysis was designed to compare the efficacy and tolerability of fulvestrant 250mg with anastrozole 1mg in postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer. Methods: Electronic literature databases (Cochrane Library, Medline, and Embase) were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published prior to August 2013. Only RCTs that compared fulvestrant 250mg to anastrozole 1mg in postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer were selected. The main outcomes were time to treatment failure (TTF), time to progression (TTP), duration of response (DOR), clinical benefit rate, and tolerability. Results: Four RCTs covering 1,226 patients (fulvestrant, n=621; anastrozole, n=605) were included in the meta-analysis. Fulvestrant increased the DOR compared to anastrozole (HR =1.31, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.13-1.51). There was no statistically significant difference between fulvestrant and anastrozole in terms of TTF (HR=1.02, 95%CI 0.89-1.17), complete response (RR=1.79, 95%CI, 0.93-3.43), and partial response (RR=0.91, 95%CI 0.69-1.21). As for safety, there was no statistical significance between the two groups for common adverse events. Conclusion: Fulvestrant 250mg is as effective and well-tolerated as anastrozole 1mg treatment for advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose disease progressed after prior endocrine treatment. Thus, fulvestrant may serve as a reasonable alternative to anastrozole when resistance is experienced in breast cancer cases.

  • The introduction of advanced water treatment facilities has increased as the conventional purification method cannot remove the substance clearly. However, the internal waterproofing and Anticorrosion materials of the advanced water treatment facility using ozone deteriorate due to the oxidation power of ozone and affects the concrete, which causes a decrease in durability. This study is to evaluate the ozone resistance according to the type of spray metal and the surface treatment method of the coating, and the bond strength after ozone treatment in order to develope a finishing method to prevent deterioration of concrete structure of water treatment facility using metal spraying method as a way to construct metal panel with excellent ozone resistance and chemical resistance by an easier way than the previous. The Experimental results show that spray metal Ti has superior ozone resistance even after spraying. It is considered to be the most suitable method for ozone resistance and bond performance by finishing using Teflon sealing as surface treatment method.

  • We develop advanced oxidation processes for the treatment of spent electroless nickel plating solution. Apart form recovering nickel by leaching and enrichment, more emphasis is placed on rendering the waste water recyclable via oxidizing phosphite and hypophosphite into phosphate which can then be precipitated easily. $UV/H_2O_2$ process is employed and the conversion efficiency of COD and $PO_4-P$, and $H_2O_2$ consumption are analyzed. Furthermore, the $UV/H_2O_2/O_3$ process in conjunction with $O_3$ generator enables us to not only save the treatment time by 6 hours but also reduce $H_2O_2$ consumption by 30%.

  • Plasma Source Ion Implantation (PSII) technique was used for the hydrophilization or hydrophobization of polymer surfaces. Polymers were modified with different plasma gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and tetrafluoromethane, and for varying lengths of treatment time. Plasma ion treatment of oxygen, nitrogen, argon and their mixtures increased significantly the hydrophilic properties of polymer surfaces. More hydrophobic surfaces of polymers were formed after the treatment with tetrafluoromethane. A study of plasma source ion implanted polymers was performed using contact angle measurements and Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). The TOF-SIMS spectra and depth profile were used to obtain the information about the treated surfaces of polymers. The permanence of this technique could be evaluated with respect to ageing time. The surfaces treated with PSII gave better stability than other surface modification methods.

  • Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by liquid phase reduction method from aqueous silver nitrate solution and borohybride as a reduction agent. The morphology, particle size and shape were influenced by the reaction conditions such as the concentration of $AgNO_3$, a reduction agent and addition of surfactant. The particle size decreased with decreasing the concentration of silver nitrate and using a borohydride. The obtained Ag particles showed the spherical shape with the range of 10-20 nm.
