  • In this study, a mathematical model for a thermal analysis of a flat heat pipe with a grooved wick structure is presented. The effects of the liquid-vapor interfacial shear stress, the contact angle, and the amount of liquid charge have been included in the proposed model. In particular, the axial variations of the wall temperature and the evaporation/condensation rates are considered by solving the one-dimensional conduction and the augmented Young-Laplace equations, respectively. In order to verify the model, the results obtained from the model are compared to existing experimental data.

  • There have been numerous studies on end milling processes. However, these have been restricted to the application of tools for special cutting purposes. A side milling cutter can handle long, deep, and open slots in a more efficient manner, and it provides the best stability and productivity for this type of milling. In this paper, a method to predict the cutting forces in side milling is described, and simulated cutting forces are compared with those obtained by cutting experiments. In particular, the side milling process easily generates relative motion between the tools and the workpiece because it produces intermittent cutting forces that cause vibrations over a wide frequency range. Therefore, the application of a dynamic cutting model instead of a static cutting model is appropriate to forecast the cutting forces more accurately.

  • A mathematical model for the synergistic interaction of physical and chemical environmental agents was suggested for quantitative prediction of irreversibly damaged cells after combined exposures. The model took into account the synergistic interaction of agents and was based on the supposition that additional effective damages responsible for the synergy are irreversible and originated from an interaction of ineffective sublesions. The experimental results regarding the irreversible component of radiation damage of diploid yeast cells simultaneous exposed to heat with ionizing radiation ($^{60}Co$) or UV light (254 nm) are presented. It was shown that the cell ability of the liquid holding recovery decreased with an increase in the temperature, at which the exposure was occurred. A good correspondence between experimental results and model prediction was demonstrated. The importance of the results obtained for the interpretation of the mechanism of synergistic interaction of various environmental factors is discussed.

  • An advanced on-resistance model of VDMOS devices in the low voltage regime is proposed and verified by 2-D device simulations. The model considers the lateral gaussian doping profiles in the channel region and exact current spreading angles in the epitaxial layer for both linear and cellular geometries by employing the conformal mapping. It is found out that the on-resistance of low voltage VDMOS may be overestimated considerably if it is analyzed by the conventional method. The 2-D device simulation results show that the proposed model is valid for all ranges of cell spacings and breakdown voltages.

  • The thickness of original hinge model is changed for structural stability in this study. The front end with the largest deformation of 9.8813 mm or the rear middle part with the largest equivalent stress of 6082.6 MPa is respectively shown at door hinge. The lower part of joint pin head with the largest deformation of 0.17499 mm and the largest equivalent stress of 1540.2 MPa are shown. The advanced model with more thickness and stability is shown to have smaller displacement in half and smaller equivalent stress by 3 times by comparing with the original model.

  • Economic component screening procedures for multi-component assembly products supplied with warranty are proposed. It is assumed that the screening variable is continuous and the performance variable is dichotomous. Logistic and normal models are considered; the proportion of conforming items is a logistic function of the screening variable in the logistic model and the screening variable given the performance variable is normally distributed in the normal model. Cost models are constructed which involve three cost components; screening inspection cost for each component, cost due to disposing a rejected component, and warranty cost for an assembly product. Methods of finding the optimal screening procedures are presented and numerical examples are given.

  • This research focuses ell an approach for the building of a requirements model for the development of large-scale information systems. It will suggest a set of requirements engineering processes as a procedure of the implementation for building the requirements model. It will also emphasise the evaluation requirements model aimed to refine and complete the requirements model by the different user groups as a cross reference. This paper provides an advanced user-construction requirements within the Event Flow Diagram as a set of requirements engineering process.

  • The objectives of this paper are twofold. First is to introduce a model for representing documents with semantics relatedness using rough sets but with tolerance relations instead of equivalence relations (TRSM). Second is to introduce two document hierarchical and nonhierarchical clustering algorithms based on this model and TRSM cluster-based information retrieval using these two algorithms. The experimental results show that TRSM offers an alterative approach to text clustering and information retrieval.

  • This paper presents a new generic Petri net model for design and performance evaluation of a flexible assembly system with dual kanban. The architectural design of the model is derived from a generic bill of materials and the combination of FMS and FAS concepts. Two approaches for analysis and performance evaluation of the new model base on the theory of invariant analysis and linear programming are also introduced. Finally, the effect of different processing times between FMS-FAS on the number of kanban cards is investigated.

  • A sensor placement technique to identify structural parameter was developed. Experimental results must be acquired to identify unknown dynamic characteristics of a targeting structure for the comparison between analytical model and real structure. If the experimental environment was not equipped itself properly, it can be happened that some valuable information are distorted or ill-condition can be occurred. In this work the index to determine exciting points was derived from the criterion of maximizing parameter sensitivity matrix and that to choose measurement points was from that of preserving the invariant of sensitivity matrix. This idea was applied to a compressor hull structure to verify its performance. The result shows that the selection of measurement and excitation points using suggested criteria improve the ill-conditioning problem of inverse type problems such , as model updating.
