  • In the past decades, various image regularization methods have been introduced. Among them, total variation model has drawn much attention for the reason of its low computational complexity and well-understood mathematical behavior. However, regularization parameter estimation of total variation model is still an open problem. To deal with this problem, a novel adaptive regularization parameter selection scheme is proposed in this paper, by means of using the local spectral response, which has the capability of locally selecting the regularization parameters in a content-aware way and therefore adaptively adjusting the weights between the two terms of the total variation model. Experiment results on simulated and real noisy image show the good performance of our proposed method, in visual improvement and peak signal to noise ratio value.

  • This study identified an effective control method for periodontitis by investigating the association between blood levels of vitamin D and periodontitis in Korean elderly based on raw data from the fifth Korea National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey of 2010 (KNHANES). In this study, 1,021 adults over 65 years of age were evaluated based on data from the KNHANES. Periodontal disease was assessed using community periodontal index (CPI), with CPI codes ${\geq}3$ defined as periodontitis. Blood levels of vitamin D were measured from blood samples and divided into four groups (first quartile: ${\leq}13.23ng/ml$, second quartile: 13.24~16.95 ng/ml, third quartile: 16.96~21.58 ng/ml), and fourth quartile >21.59 ng/ml). Using multiple logistic regression analyses, the variables were adjusted for general characteristics, oral health-related characteristics, health-related characteristics, and bone mineral density. The statistical analysis was performed using the SAS (ver. 9.2). The results of this study are as follows: the prevalence of periodontitis was 42.6% in Korean elderly. After adjusting for general, oral health-related, and health-related, the risk of periodontitis in the first quartile group was 1.74 times (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.02~2.98) higher than that of the fourth quartile group (p=0.041). After adjusting for general, oral health-related, and health-related characteristics as well as bone mineral density, the risk of periodontitis in the first quartile group was 1.73 times (95% CI, 1.02~2.96) higher than that of the four quartile group (p=0.042). There was a significant relationship between blood vitamin D level and periodontitis in Korean elderly. For the prevention of periodontitis, factors related to vitamin D should be considered along with other risk factors.

  • This study was carried out in order to investigate the effect of pre-coating layer on top-coating layer. The coated paper with five different formulations were prepared. The properties of coated paper were measured and correlation between pre and top-coated layer was evaluated. Paper gloss was increased with addition of clay and GCC that has smaller particle size. Roughness was decreased with using smaller particle GCC, clay and talc. The highest thickness was obtained with talc. Brightness and whiteness of pre-coated layer were affected to top-coated layer. GCC 60 shows the highest and ununiform water adsorption during 1sec. The adsorption was higher with increasing coated weight. Talc shows the excellent water adsorption properties due to its wettability. These results indicate that final printability and properties of top coating layer can be controlled with adjusting pre-coating layer.

  • A new algorithm is developed that can reduce the metal artifact on CT caused by pedicle screws. Metal artifact has been recognized as a major problem in precise reading of CT images. In particular, spine surgeons have been bothered with the artifact appearing on CT taken after pedicle screw insertion. To reduce the artifact, our new algorithm first finds the center line from CT images, and then overlays an exact size screw image on the CT. The exact screw is obtained from an actual design specifications of screw, and the CT images are processed to maximize bone margins while minimizing screw images through adjusting the window width and level. 실험 결과 단순한 Window W/L 조절로는 해결되지 않는군요. This algorithm provides spine surgeons with more accurate CT images and thus better interpretation of CT to ascertain the success or failure of pedicle screw insertion.

  • Cylinder machine usually gives more fiber orientation than fourdrinier and has limitation in machine speed because of fiber wash-off caused by centrifugal force when machine speed increases. This study aimed for the improvement of paper formation and productivity by setting an apron in vat inlet and by adjusting mould water head. Improvement of formation and increase of machine speed were achieved, which ultimately improve productivity. Installing an apron successfully decreased fiber wash-off. Fiber orientation and two-sideness of ash distribution became less severe. The proper adjustment of water head inside the cylinder mould proved to be an important factor not only in paper formation but also in decreasing paper two-sideness.

  • Purpose: Malnutrition is a major concern in patients with gynecologic cancer receiving chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of malnutrition in patients with gynecologic cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: A prospective, observational study was conducted on a total of 99 subjects who were treated at a tertiary hospital in Korea. Data regarding demographic, clinical, nutritional, and psychological characteristics at baseline and survival were obtained. Results: Performance status, nutritional status, depression, and annual income were significantly different between survivors and non-survivors. Multivariate Cox modeling after adjusting for other factors showed that a malnourished status in patients with gynecologic cancer undergoing chemotherapy was a significant and independent negative influencing factor for survival. Conclusion: These findings provide evidence that adequate nutritional assessment and intervention may assist in improving survival in patients with gynecologic cancer undergoing chemotherapy.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of a general structured observer and presents an estimation algorithm for a system with external disturbances which are added to the input of the system. By using a disturbance model, the general structured observer can estimate the states of the system is spite of disturbances, where the system is affected from external disturbances. Also, the general structured observer can include the function of a PI observer or high gain observer by properly adjusting the observer's gain matrices. The existence condition for the observer is derived, which can be checked by the system's observability condition and the pole-zero cancellation of the system's polynomial matrix. Through a numerical example, it is verified that the proposed observer is effective estimating the system and the input disturbance.

  • The purpose of this study was first to reveal the factors of time management behaviors of college students. The second purpose was to examine the effects of those factors on the satisfaction of time management. The data were collected from 400 college students in Seoul by a self-administered questionnaire. Frequencies, Cronbach's alpha, Factor analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis and Multiple linear regression were conducted by SPSS WIN12.0. The major findings were as follows. First, factor analysis of 20 items on the time management behaviors related questions revealed six factors: establishment of standards, reality, overlapping, checking, adjusting and facilitating. Second, many factors such as facilitating, establishment of standards, reality, overlapping were significant in the regression analyses for the satisfaction of time management. Especially, establishment of standards and facilitating had high levels of effort on the satisfaction of time management. In combination, these results suggest that establishment of standards and facilitating are very important factors for high satisfaction of time management.
