In this paper an imrpoved Signal-to-Interference ratio(SIR)-based call admission control(CAC) algorithm for DS-CDMA cellular system is proposed and its performance is analyzed. This algorithm uses Residual-Capacity defined asthe additional number of initial calls that a base station can accept such that system-wide outage probability will guaranteed to remain below a certain level. the residual capcity at each cell is calculated according to the reverse-link SIR measured not only at the home cell but also the adjacent cells. Then the adjacent cell interference-coupling coefficient .betha. is used. In this work we propose an improved algorithm that .betha. varies according to the traffic load of the home cell. The influence of traffic condition on system performance, namely blocking probability and outage probability, is then examined via simulation. The performance of the improved algorithm is evaluated both under homogeneous and hot spot traffic loads. The results show that the improved algorithm outperforms conventional algorithms under all load values. Under over-load situation, especially, the improved algorithm gives almost constant outage performance the QoS(quality of service) can be guranted.

Wireless ATM is the next-generation technology which can provide broadband services for mobile multimedia terminals. Proposed in this paper is a method of enabling fast handover by forming one cell group with the cell having the mobile terminal (MT) at present and six adjacent cells and storing information on COS which is to perform re-routing between new cell to which MT is moved when handover occurs and adjacent cells to which the MT can be handed over in new cells in advance. And the order of data cells is guaranteed by using the in-band marking cell during handover. Also the handover delay is analyzed and compared to the conventional handover method without COS reservation.

An analog array with a 1.2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ double poly floating gate transistor has been developed with a standard CMOS fabrication process. The programming of each cell by means of an efficient control circuit eliminates the unnecessary erasing operation which has been widely used in conventional analog memories. It is seen that the path of the signal for both the programming and the reading is almost exactly the same since just one comparator supports both operations. It helps to eliminate the effects of the amplifier input-offset voltage problem on the output voltage for the read operation. In the array, there is no pass transistor isolating a cell of interest from the adjacent cells in the array. Instead of the extra transistors, one extra bias voltage, Vmid, is employed. The experimental results from the memory shows that the resolution of the memory is equivalent to the information content of at least six digital cells. Programming/erasing of each cell is achieved with no detectable disturbance of adjacent cells. Finally, the unique shape of the injector structure in a EEPROM is adopted as a cell of analog array. It reduces the programming voltage below the transistor breakdown voltage without any special fabrication process.
The Bcl-2 family of proteins interacts at the mitochondria to regulate apoptosis. However, the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and $Bcl-X_L$ are not completely localized to the mitochondria. In an attempt to generate Bcl-2 and $Bcl-X_L$ chimeras that are constitutively localized to the mitochondria, we substituted their C-terminal transmembrane tail or both the C-terminal transmembrane tail and the adjacent loop with the equivalent regions from Bak or Bax mutant (BaxS184V) as these regions determine the mitochondrial localization of Bak and Bax. The effects of these substitutions on subcellular localization and their activities were assessed following expression in HeLa and CHO K1 cells. The substitution of the C-terminal tail or the C-terminal tail and the adjacent loop of Bcl-2 with the equivalent regions from Bak or the Bax mutant resulted in its association with the mitochondria. This change in subcellular localization of Bcl-2 chimeras triggered cells to undergo apoptotic-like cell death. The localization of this Bcl-2 chimera to the mitochondria may be associated with the disruption of mitochondrial membrane potential. Unlike Bcl-2, the loop structure adjacent to the C-terminal tail in $Bcl-X_L$ is crucial for its localization. To localize the $Bcl-X_L$ chimeras to the mitochondria, the loop structure next to the C-terminal tail in $Bcl-X_L$ protein must remain intact and cannot be substituted by the loop from Bax or Bak. The chimeric $Bcl-X_L$ with both its C-terminal tail and the loop structure replaced by the equivalent regions of Bak or Bax mutant localized throughout the entire cytosol. The $Bcl-X_L$ chimeras that are targeted to the mitochondria and the wild type $Bcl-X_L$ provided same protection against cell death under several death inducing conditions.
Background: To explore vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C) and VEGF-D expression and its correlation with lymph node metastasis in esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC) tissue. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemical methods were applied to detect the levels of VEGF-C and VEGF-D expression in 64 surgicall removal ESCC tissues, tissues adjacent to cancer and normal tissues, and the relationship between VEGF-C and VEGF-D expression and lymph node metastasis was analyzed. Results: Both VEGF-C and VEGF-D were expressed by varying degrees in esophageal cancer tissue, the tissue adjacent to cancer and normal tissue, and the positive expression rate went down successively. The positive expression rates of VEGF-C (59.4%) and VEGF-D (43.8%) in esophageal cancer tissue were significantly higher than in the tissue adjacent to cancer (34.4%, 15.6%) and normal tissue (20.3%, 12.5%), respectively, in which significant differences were manifested (p<0.01). Positive expression rates of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in esophageal cancers with lymph node metastasis were markedly higher than without such metastasis (p<0.01), while those in the tissue with TNM staging I~II were markedly lower than that with TNM staging III~IV (p<0.01). Conclusions: Both VEGF-C and VEGF-D are highly expressed in ESCC tissue, which may be related to the lymph node metastasis of cancer cells. Hence, VEGF-C and VEGF-D can be clinically considered as important reference indexes of lymph node metastasis in esophageal cancer.
The crystal structure of a sulfur sorption complex of the dehydrated partially Co2+ exchanged zeolite A (a=12.058(2) Å) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray techniques. The crystal structure was solved and refined in cubic space group Pm3m at 21(1) ℃. Ion Exchange with aqueous 0.05 M Co(NO3)2 was done by the static method. The crystal of Na4Co4-A was dehydrated at 380 ℃ and 2 × 10-6 Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to about 100 Torr of sulfur at 330 ℃ for 72 h. Full matrix least-squares refinement converged to R1=0.084 and Rw=0.074 with 102 reflections for which I > 3σ(I). Crystallographic analysis shows that 2.8 Co2+ ions and 4 Na+ ions per unit cell occupy 6-ring sites on the threefold axes. 1.2 Co2+ ions occupy the 8-ring sites on fourfold axes. 2.8 Co2+ ions at Co(1) are recessed 0.66 Å into the large cavity and 4 Na+ ion at Na(1) are recessed 0.77 Å into the sodalite cavity from the (111) plane of O(3)'s. Approximately 16 sulfur atoms were sorbed per unit cell. Two S8 rings, each in a butterfly form, are found in the large cavity. The bond length between S and its adjacent S is 2.27(3) Å. The distance between 6-ring Co2+ ion and its adjacent sulfur is 2.53 (2) Å and that between 8-ring Co2+ ions and its adjacent sulfur is 2.72(9) Å. The angles of S-S'-S and S'-S-S'/ in octasulfur rings are 119.0(2)°and 113.0(2)°, respectively.
Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the most common histologic subtype of esophageal cancer and is characterized by a poor prognosis. Determining gene changes in ESCCs should improve understanding of putative risk factors and provide potential targets for therapy. We sequenced about 55 million pair-end reads from a pair of adjacent normal and ESCC samples to identify the gene expression level and gene fusion. Sanger sequencing was used to verify the result. About 17 thousand genes were expressed in the tissues, of which approximately 2400 demonstrated significant differences between tumor and adjacent non tumor tissue. GO and KEGG pathway analysis revealed that many of these genes were associated with cellular adherence and movement, simulation responses and immune responses. Notably we identified and validated one fusion gene, HLA-E and HLA-B, located 1 MB apart. We also identified thousands of remarkably expressed transcripts. In conclusion, a novel fusion gene HLA-E and HLA-B was identified in ESCC via whole transcriptome sequencing, which would be a biomarker for ESCC diagnosis and target for therapy, shedding new light for better understanding of ESCC tumorigenesis.

Osseointegrated implants are now commonplace in contemporary dentistry. However, a number of complications can occur around dental implants, including peri-implantitis, maxillary sinusitis, osteomyelitis, and neoplasms. There have been several reports of a malignant neoplasm occurring adjacent to a dental implant. In this report, we describe 2 such cases. One case was that of a 75-year-old man with no previous history of malignant disease who developed a solitary plasmacytoma around a dental implant in the left posterior mandible, and the other was that of a 43-year-old man who was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma adjacent to a dental implant in the right posterior mandible. Our experiences with these 2 cases suggest the possibility of a relationship between implant treatment and an inflammatory cofactor that might increase the risk of development of a malignant neoplasm.
For this investigation, author isolated Streptococcus mitis strain SD-9 from the bacterial flora in the human dental plaque, which was incubated in brain-heart infusion media containing 5% sucrose at 37℃ for 24 hours. For the cytochemical demonstration of polysaccharide produced by this strain, a modified thiosemicarbazide osmium method (Critchley et al., 1967) was used. After fixation with this reagent, the harvested cells was suspended in 1% agar for the higher concentration of cells(Kellenberger et al., 1964). And they were dehydrated in the various concentration of ethanol, and embedded in Epon 812(Luft, 1961). Sectioning was done with the Sorvall MT-2 Porter Blum ultramicrotome by means of a glass knife, and the sections were stained with saturated uranyl acetate and lead citrate (Raynolds, 1963). All preparations were examined in a electron microscope, Hitachi HU-ll E-1 type. The morphological features of extracellular polysaccharide produced by Streptococcus mitis strain SD-9 were appeared in 3 structurally different forms, those are, electron dense fibrillar material linearly arranged adjacent to the outer surface of cell wall, highly electron dense globular material adjacent to the outer surface of cell wall, and strutureless fluffy meshwork of possible very fine filament.
Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignancy with a poor prognosis. We aimed to explore whether the expression of Long Non-Coding RNA (LncRNA) growth arrest-specific transcript 5 (GAS5) is associated with RCC genesis. Methods: We selected twelve clinical samples diagnosed for renal clear cell carcinoma and found that the LncRNA GAS5 transcript levels were significantly reduced relative to those in adjacent unaffected normal renal tissues. Results: In addition, expression of GAS5 was lower in the RCC cell line A498 than that in normal renal cell line HK-2. Furthermore, using functional expression cloning, we found that overexpression of GAS5 in A498 cells inhibited cell proliferation, induced cell apoptosis and arrested cell cycling. At the same time, the migration and invasion potential of A498 cells were inhibited compared to control groups. Conclusion: Our study provided the first evidence that a decrease in GAS5 expression is associated with RCC genesis and progression and overexpression of GAS5 can act as a tumor suppressor for RCC, providing a potential attractive therapeutic approach for this malignancy.
