Analysis on the Curriculum of Chemical Engineering Field in Specialized Vocational High School (특성화고 화공계열의 교육과정에 대한 실태 분석)

  • This study is aimed at researching and analyzing the actual conditions of the curriculum and career path of chemical engineering field in specialized high school, and seeking for a curriculum improvement plan for activation by means of identity establishment of chemical engineering field. This study surveyed the actual conditions of school (department) regarding chemical engineering, and analyzed an adequacy among the curriculum, department name and acquired license. The results are as follows. Firstly, In order to the chemical engineering field to maintain the identity of chemical engineering and accept the changes in the industrial site, it is desirable for the department name to use the name of applied science, such as Applied Chemical Industry, Nano Chemical Industry, Environmental Chemical Industry, Energy Chemical Industry, Convergence Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Chemical Engineering, Biomolecular and Chemical Engineering, and Food Bio-chemical Engineering, which are derived from chemical engineering, and the revision of curriculum should be included. Secondly, it is necessary to diversify relevant licenses by standard department of chemical engineering field, and clarify the purpose of human resources development and the image of talented, considering the future course of graduates and the demand of industry, for the purpose of improving school-leveled curriculum to raise the possibility of employment. Thirdly, in accordance with the changing paradigm that secondary vocational education is changed from 'just-to-know education (knowledge)' to 'can-do education (capability)', it is necessary to make the performance ability-centered curriculum in which 'chemical engineering industry - chemical engineering vocational education - chemical engineering qualification' are integrated.

An Exploration of the Development of School-based Curriculum Model for the Gifted in Elementary School (초등학교 영재들을 위한 학교교육과정 개발 모형 탐색)

  • Since 1992, the sixth national curriculum introduced the policy of school based curriculum development(SBCD) and required all the public elementary schools to develop their own curriculum for the gifted children in their schools. However, in spite of the fact that this curriculum policy for the gifted children has the history of 15 years until now, the current state of its implementation seems to be unsatisfactory. The major reason for that seems to be due to the reality that the schools have not had the theoretical basis for the curriculum development for the gifted children. In this vein, the researcher presented the theoretical SBCD model for the gifted children in elementary schools under the assumption that the model should suit the identity of elementary education, so that the gifted education in the elementary school can be implemented in its own form and adequacy. Based on the identity of elementary education, the model was developed by reformulating three component models of VanTassel-Baska's ICM: content model, process-product model, and epistemological model. The major feature of the researcher's model is to adapt and adjust the three component models differently according to the age level from the first to sixth graders in the elementary school. The model can be used not only as a general model for the talent pool of the school but also as an individual model for a specific gifted child by taking his special needs and characteristics into account. The model is a theoretical one based on the curriculum models for the gifted which were presented by several scholars in the area of G/T education, and it needs to be validated empirically in the future.

Farmers' Educational Performance Influencing Educational Satisfaction (농업인 교육만족과 교육성과 간의 영향관계 분석)

  • This study aims to investigate the farmer's educational performances Influencing educational satisfaction. In general, the goal of agricultural education is to increase farm performance such as income, sales and perceptions. A survey was used to collect data from 588 farmers to the country extension office. The results of the analysis are as follows. The variables that have a significant effect on satisfaction in this study are as follows. interaction between instructors and farmers, passion of instructors, effectiveness of lectures, educational support, and educational facilities. However, the adequacy of the lecture and the diversity of the contents of education did not explain the satisfaction variable. Discussions on the improvement of farmers' education were made by considering the rejected variables. In conclusion, farmers' education in the field should secure educational diversity. And farmer's education in RDA should develop a new curriculum. Farmer's education in RDA should further strengthen the informal learning.

The Study to Reorganize the Course of Basic Nursing Science in a College of Nursing (일 간호대학 기초간호과학 교과 개편에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to reorganize the course of basic nursing science (BNS). Methods: The curriculums of 10 leading nursing colleges (domestic and abroad) were analyzed. And a survey was performed on 178 nursing students to identify the perceived level of knowledge, clinical application, the adequacy of class hours and further improvements for the course of BNS. Results: The various levels of credits and percentage were found in the curriculums of other nursing colleges (12-18 credits and 8.6, 13.6%, respectively). The perceived levels of knowledge, clinical application were directly proportional to the adequacy of class hours, and students suggested the increment of class hours and in-depth study. Based on these results, the course of BNS was reorganized as follows: 1) The course of BNS was divided into 2 courses (BNS 1, 2) and total credits were increased to 5 credits. 2) The BNS 1 course was focused on basic concepts to understand human anatomy and physiology. And BNS 2 consisted of detailed structures and functions of human body system. 3) 12 Quizzes were added. Conclusion: The efforts to reorganize the curriculum of BNS might strengthen nursing students' ability to understand nursing phenomena, help student with academic performance and clinical training.

A Survey on the Adequacy of Question Items of the Chemistry Teacher Employment Examination (중등 과학교사 임용시험 중 화학영역 문항의 적절성과 개선 방안에 대한 조사)

  • A survey has been administered to investigate the adequacy of the chemistry teacher employment examination. The questionnaires were sent to the professors of the fourteen departments of chemistry education all over the nation and the responses were collected from the thirteen departments. From the analyses of the responses, the problems were pointed out and the suggestions were made for the improvement of the examination to recruit excellent chemistry teachers. Reconsideration of the ratio of subject matter education to subject contents, adjustment of format and number of questions, maintaining of proper degree of difficulty and discrimination of items, reconsideration of relevancy to practical education, raising the number of committee for the examination, the reflection of the 7th science curriculum, and opening to the public of the information related to the teacher employment examination were discussed.

  • This paper analyzed the main contents of multiplication and division of fractions in elementary mathematics textbooks and workbooks aligned to the national mathematics curriculum. This paper first explored the adequacy of when to teach the contents, the connection of instructional flow across grades, and the method of constructing a unit to teach multiplication or division of fractions. This paper then analyzed in detail the contents with regard to the types and frequency of word problems, the types of visual models and frequency, and the process of formalizing the calculation methods and principles. It is expected that the issues and suggestions stemming from this analysis of current textbooks and workbooks are informative in developing new instructional materials aligned to the recently revised mathematics curriculum.

Analysis of the Locality and Scale of the Presentation of Fossil Photographs in Textbooks of Earth Science on the 7th Curriculum (제7차 교육과정 지구과학 관련 교과서에서의 화석사진에 대한 산출지역 및 척도 표기 분석)

  • Fossil photographs in science and earth science textbooks on the 7th curriculum including those of elementary, middle and high school, are analyzed to estimate the adequacy and scientific significance focusing on the locality and scale. The results show that most of the textbooks have included various types of fossil photographs: 32 in elementary textbooks, 50 in middle school and 109 in high school. However, the presentation of scientific information on each photographs is insufficient. Only $68\%$ of the elementary textbooks designates locality and only $6\%$ includes scales. Among middle and high school textbooks, 40 and $16\%$ of photographs describe locality, and 14 and $18\%$ of photographs exhibit scale, respectively. More scientific and appropriate presentation of fossil photographs, such as locality and scale, is needed to enhance educational effect.

A Study on the Development of a Guideline Model for a Graduate Program in Archival Studies in Korea (한국 기록관리학 대학원 교육지침서 모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The role of an archivist should include not only traditional archives management but also new archives management based on an understanding of electronic records and information technology. In this study, to verify the adequacy and content validity of the components, knowledge categories, and knowledge contents of the guideline for a graduate program in archival studies, the Delphi survey was carried out. As a result of the Delphi survey, the components of the guideline consisted of "preface," "curriculum," "faculty," "structure of the learning process," "administrative resources," and "conclusions," and the educational content consisted of 8 knowledge categories and 44 knowledge contents. This study aims to present the minimum components to be followed in the graduate program of archival science through the development of the guideline model and present educational contents to educate archivists with theoretical and practical capabilities. The model can be used as basic data for a future guideline for a graduate program in archival studies.

An Analysis of the Addition and Subtraction of Fractions in Elementary Mathematics Instructional Materials (분수의 덧셈과 뺄셈에 관한 초등학교 수학과 교과용 도서 분석)

  • The operations of fractions are the main contents of number and operations in the elementary mathematics curriculum. They are also difficult for students to understand conceptually. Nevertheless, there has been little study on the addition and subtraction of fractions. Given this, this paper explored the connection between the national mathematics curriculum and its concomitant textbooks, the adequacy of when to teach, and the method of constructing each unit to teach addition and subtraction of fractions. This paper then analyzed elementary mathematics textbooks and workbooks by three parts aligned with the general instructional flow: 'introduction', 'activity', and, 'exercise'. First, it was analyzed with regard to the introduction part whether the word problems of textbooks might reflect on students' daily lives as intended, how different meanings of operations would be expected to be taught, and how the subsequent activities were connected with the original word problems. Second, the main analysis of activity part of the textbooks dealt with how to use concrete or iconic models to promote students' conceptual understanding of operations and how to formalize the calculation methods and principles with regard to addition and subtraction of fractions. Third, the analysis of the part of exercise in the textbooks and workbooks was conducted with regard to problem types and meanings of operations. It is expected that the issues and suggestions stemming from this analysis of current textbooks and workbooks are informative in developing new instructional materials aligned to the recently revised mathematics curriculum.

Analysis of the Causes of Decrease in the Number of Students Taking Chemistry I in the CSAT by Analyzing the Chemistry I Question in the CSAT and the Recognition Survey of Students and Teachers (대학수학능력시험 화학 I 문항 분석 및 학생과 교사의 인식 조사를 통한 화학 I 응시자 감소 원인 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed the causes of decrease in the number of students taking Chemistry ? in the College Scholastics Ability Test (CSAT) by analyzing the adequacy of the Chemistry I question in the CSAT and the recognition survey of students and teachers about the Chemistry I choice. We analyzed some questions in Chemistry I of the CSAT from the year 2014 to 2016. The questions were analyzed to determine whether they were appropriate to the curriculum content, achievement standard, and achievement level. The target of the survey for perception was 452 senior high school students and 68 science teachers. The result of the study showed that the questions in Chemistry I are somewhat difficult compared to the depth and achievement level required by the curriculum, and it also requires mathematical thinking ability. Students recognized the mathematical thinking and complex mathematical skills are needed to solve problems in Chemistry I. Teachers also thought that the choice of Chemistry I is unfavorable in aspect of meeting the minimum academic ability standard, and accordingly, they did not actively recommend students to take Chemistry I. Moreover, most of the teachers recognized that it is necessary to improve the direction of writing questions for Chemistry I. Therefore, setting questions that can be solved using chemical knowledge, not mathematical ability need to be addressed.
