Recently, NAND flash memory has emerged as a next generation storage device because it has several advantages, such as low power consumption, shock resistance, and so on. However, it is necessary to use a flash translation layer (FTL) to intermediate between NAND flash memory and conventional file systems because of the unique hardware characteristics of flash memory. This paper proposes a new clustered FTL (CFTL) that uses clustered hash tables and a two-level software cache technique. The CFTL can anticipate consecutive addresses from the host because the clustered hash table uses the locality of reference in a large address space. It also adaptively switches logical addresses to physical addresses in the flash memory by using block mapping, page mapping, and a two-level software cache technique. Furthermore, anticipatory I/O management using continuity counters and a prefetch scheme enables fast address translation. Experimental results show that the proposed address translation mechanism for CFTL provides better performance in address translation and memory space usage than the well-known NAND FTL (NFTL) and adaptive FTL (AFTL).
In this paper, we deal with an inventory model of a multi-stage, serial supply chain system where a single product type and nonstationary customer demand pattern are considered. The retailer and suppliers place their orders according to an echelon-stock based replenishment control policy. We assume that the suppliers can access online information on the demand history and use this information when making their replenishment decisions. Using a reinforcement learning technique, the inventory control parameters are designed to adaptively change as the customer demand pattern is altered, in order to maintain a given target service level. Through a simulation based experiment, we verified that our approach is good for maintaining the target service level.
Active Queue Management(AQM) has been widely used for congestion avoidance in Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) networks. Although numerous AQM schemes have been proposed to regulate a queue size close to a reference level, most of them are incapable of adequately adapting to TCP network dynamics due to TCP's non-linearity and time-varying stochastic properties. To alleviate these problems, we introduce an AQM technique based on a dynamic neural network using the Back-Propagation(BP) algorithm. The dynamic neural network is designed to perform as a robust adaptive feedback controller for TCP dynamics after an adequate training period. We evaluate the performances of the proposed neural network AQM approach using simulation experiments. The proposed approach yields superior performance with faster transient time, larger throughput, and higher link utilization compared to two existing schemes: Random Early Detection(RED) and Proportional-Integral(PI)-based AQM. The neural AQM outperformed PI control and RED, especially in transient state and TCP dynamics variation.
Recently, in organizations many decisions are being made by groups. And the organization is changing a lot so are groups. To help decision making of changing groups, we need more flexible and more adaptive GDSS. Therefore one of the critical success factors of GDSS is flexibility and incremental improvement. Prior research on specifying design requirements of GDSS suggests generic design requirements. But they are too general to be incorporated directly into system design, because of the disparity between real group and ideal group that the researchers studied. Many design strategies that start from the generic design requirements thus have contingency variables that changes as the characteristics of group change. From the viewpoint of developers, these variables implicate the desirability of flexibility. To achieve flexibility we need new methodology of design and implementation. Nowadays, object-oriented analysis and design methodologies have been progressed to the point that many systems are being developed through these methodologies. In this paper, a design is proposed using Object-Oriented Modeling Techniques(OMT). Exploiting object-oriented paradigm results in a highly flexible and easily upgradable design.
Rainfall-Runoff modeling plays a crucial role in various aspects of water resource management. It helps significantly in resolving the issues related to flood control, protection of agricultural lands, etc. Various Machine learning and statistical-based algorithms have been used for this purpose. These techniques resulted in outcomes with an acceptable rate of success. One of the pertinent machine learning algorithms namely Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) has been reported to be a very effective tool for the purpose. However, the computational complexity of ANFIS is a major hindrance in its application. In this paper, we resolved this problem of ANFIS by incorporating one of the evolutionary algorithms known as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) which was used in estimating the parameters pertaining to ANFIS. The results of the modified ANFIS were found to be satisfactory. The performance of this modified ANFIS is then compared with conventional ANFIS and another popular statistical modeling technique namely ARIMA model with respect to the forecasting of runoff. In the present investigation, it was found that proposed PSO-ANFIS performed better than ARIMA and conventional ANFIS with respect to the prediction accuracy of runoff.
ACASH(the Adaptive Caching Algorithm with Size Heterogeneity)를 제안하였다.
