The spatial population existing in a plane ares, such as an animal or aerial population, have certain relationships among regions which are located within a fixed distance from one selected region. We consider with the adaptive searching estimation in spatial sampling for a spatial population. The adaptive searching estimation depends on values of sample points during the survey and on the nature of the surfaces under investigation. In this paper we study the estimation by the adaptive searching in a spatial sampling for the purpose of estimating the area possessing a particular characteristic in a spatial population. From the viewpoint of adaptive searching, we empirically compare systematic sampling with stratified sampling in spatial sampling through the simulation data.

Adaptive cluster sampling design is known as a sampling method for rare clustered population. Three modified adaptive cluster sampling designs are proposed. The adjusted Hansen-Hurwitz estimator and the Horvitz-Thompson estimator are considered. Efficiency issue of the proposed sampling designs is discussed in a Monte-Carlo simulation study.
In this paper, we suggest two-phase adaptive cluster sampling schemes. The main feature of the two-phase sampling is that the information collected in the first phase sample is utilized in the selection of the second phase sample. The conventional two-phase sampling is, however, not sufficient to increase efficiency when the population of interest is rare and clustered. In the proposed sampling scheme, the first phase sample is selected with adaptive cluster sampling procedure and the second phase sample is selected by PPSWR and $\pi$PS sampling. We investigate unbiased estimators of population total and their variance for the proposed sampling schemes respectively. Finally we compare these suggested sampling schemes using numerical examples .

Many mobile sensing frameworks have been developed to help researcher doing their mobile sensing research. However, energy consumption is still an issue in the mobile sensing research, and the existing frameworks do not provide enough solution for solving the issue. We have surveyed several mobile sensing frameworks and carefully chose one framework to improve. We have designed an adaptive sampling module for a mobile sensing framework to help solve the energy consumption issue. However, in this study, we limit our design to an adaptive sampling module for the location and motion sensors. In our adaptive sampling module, we utilize the significant motion sensor to help the adaptive sampling. We experimented with two sampling strategies that utilized the significant motion sensor to achieve low-power consumption during the continuous sampling. The first strategy is to utilize the sensor naively only while the second one is to add the duty cycle to the naive approach. We show that both strategies achieve low energy consumption, but the one that is combined with the duty cycle achieves better result.

This paper presents an adaptive sampling method for electrocardiogram (ECG) signal detection. First, by employing the strings matching process with compression dictionary, we recognize each segment of ECG with different characteristics. Then, based on the non-uniform sampling strategy, the sampling rate is determined adaptively. As the results of simulation indicated, our approach reconstructed the ECG signal at an optimized sampling rate with the guarantee of ECG integrity. Compared with the existing adaptive sampling technique, our approach acquires an ECG signal at a 30% lower sampling rate. Finally, the experiment exhibits its superiority in terms of energy efficiency and memory capacity performance.
The active learning surrogate model based on adaptive sampling strategy is increasingly popular in reliability analysis. However, most of the existing sampling strategies adopt the trial and error method to determine the size of the Monte Carlo (MC) candidate sample pool which satisfies the requirement of variation coefficient of failure probability. It will lead to a reduction in the calculation efficiency of reliability analysis. To avoid this defect, a new method for determining the optimal size of the MC candidate sample pool is proposed, and a new structural reliability analysis method combining polynomial chaos-based Kriging model (PC-Kriging) with adaptive sampling region is also proposed (PCK-ASR). Firstly, based on the lower limit of the confidence interval, a new method for estimating the optimal size of the MC candidate sample pool is proposed. Secondly, based on the upper limit of the confidence interval, an adaptive sampling region strategy similar to the radial centralized sampling method is developed. Then, the k-means++ clustering technique and the learning function LIF are used to complete the adaptive design of experiments (DoE). Finally, the effectiveness and accuracy of the PCK-ASR method are verified by three numerical examples and one practical engineering example.
Thompson's (1990) adaptive cluster sampling is a promising sampling technique to ensure effective representation of rare or localized population units in the sample. We consider the problem of simultaneous estimation of the numbers of earners through a number of rural unorganized industries of which some are concentrated in specific geographic locations and demonstrate how the performance of a conventional Rao-Hartley-Cochran (RHC, 1962) estimator can be improved upon by using auxiliary information in the form of generalized regression (greg) estimators and then how further improvements are also possible to achieve by adopting adaptive cluster sampling.

A Bayesian estimation of the four-parameter gamma distribution is considered under the noninformative prior. The Bayesian estimators are obtained by the Gibbs sampling. The generation of the shape/power parameter and the power parameter in the Gibbs sampler is implemented using the adaptive rejection sampling algorithm of Gilks and Wild (1992). Also, the location parameter is generated using the adaptive rejection Metropolis sampling algorithm of Gilks, Best and Tan (1995). Finally, the simulation result is presented.

This paper considers the adaptive predictive control problem of a system characterized by a multiplexed measurements and multirate sampling mechanism. Plant outputs are measured in various sampling rates through a multiplexed measurement system where a single common instrument is shared by several controllers. In general, output measurement sampling rate is assumed to be slower that input update rate. An adaptive predictive control algorithm is developed for systems with multiplexed measurements.
