  • This study was conducted with a purpose to evaluate the effect of auricular acupuncture pressure therapy on insomnia of elderly and to suggest the auricular acupuncture pressure therapy as an independent nursing intervention. The study was unequvalance control group pretest-posttest experimental design and the data collection was done from 37 samples of experimetal group and 37 samples of control group which were random-assigned as 60 years-over elderly people who lived in seoul. Data were collected from November, 1999 to February, 2000. The tools used in the study were the auricular acupuncture pressure therapy for decreasing of insomnia, the scale of sleepness and self- satisfaction scale. The auricular acupuncture pressure therapy used in this study is a sort of the auricular acupuncture to decrease insomnia and self-satisfaction of sleep by pressured on applied auricular acupncture of upper auricular blood acupuncture site of insomnia. Data was analied by SPSS stastistics program. Conclusively, sleepness and self- satisfaction of sleep were measured higher in experimental group which applied this auricular acupuncture pressure therapy than control group which not applized(p=.000). Therefore, the auricular acupuncture pressure therapy can decrease frequent insonmia of elderly and increase self satisfaction of sleep, processingly can improve quality of life in the late stage. Futhermore, it can be developed as independent oriental nursing intervention

  • Objectives : This study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Bee Venom acupuncture therapy on sprain of C-spine by randomized controlled double blinding method. Methods : A randomized double blinding study of bee venom acupuncture therapy was conducted on sprain of C-spine. We divided sprain of C-spine patient into 2 groups: one group with both acupuncture and saline acupuncture therapy, and another group with both acupuncture and bee venom acupuncture therapy. To estimate the efficacy of treatment that applied for two groups, we used visual analog scale(VAS) and neck disability index(NDI). We compared the VAS and NDI score of two groups statistically. Results : STZ induced increase of serum creatinine, BUN and albumin secretion were lowered by AD-1 treatment.

  • Objective : This study was designed to estimate the effects of Rainbow Power therapy on neck pain patients by using Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and pressure algometer. Methods : Rainbow Power therapy group consisted of 18 patients and acupuncture therapy group consisted of 7 patients. The degree of improvement of neck pain was evaluated by VAS and pain pressure threshold(at the points of Jianjing GB21 and Jianwaishu SI14) before treatment, before 3rd treatment and before 5th treatment. Rainbow Power therapy was performed at the points of Jianjing GB21, Zhongfu LU1, Yangxi LI5, Ganshu BL18, Weishu BL21 and Shenshu, BL23. Each points were stimulated with RP-UM103(Rainbow Power therapy instrument) for 20 seconds. The points of acupuncture therapy were Jeonggeun, Jeongjong, Sangbaekn and Hegu LI4 and acupuncture was maintained for 15 minutes. After above therapy dry cupping was performed at the points of Jianjing GB21, Jianwaishu SI14, Gaohuang BL43, Tianzong, SI11 and Bingfeng SI12 for 5 minutes. Results : There was no significant difference between the two groups in VAS, pain threshold of Jianjing GB21 and Jianwaishu SI14 following treatment. In the two groups VAS was significantly decreased. In Rainbow Power therapy group the pain threshold of the two points was significantly increased. But there was no significant increase in acupuncture therapy groups about the pain threshold of Jianwaishu SI14. Conclusions : The effectiveness of Rainbow Power therapy on neck pain was shown through VAS and pressure algometer. These imply that Rainbow Power therapy may be useful for neck pain. Further study is needed about Rainbow Power therapy.

Methods : Under the assumption that Be-venom Therapy may be effective for treatment seborrheic dermatitis, Bee-venom acupuncture was injected subcutaneously into the lesion including Gv24(神庭), Gv23(上星), Gv22, Gv20(白會), B4(曲差), B5(五處), B6(承光), S8(頭維), etc. Results : The symptoms including erythematous plaque, scale, itching were resolved clearly except a little scale by Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy. Conclusions : Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy is effective in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. if more clinical trials like this are proved to be effective in seborrheic dermatitis, we can expect that Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy is used to treatment of seborrheic dermatitis as good method.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of mental stress measured with heart rate variability(HRV) in healthy adults and to evaluate the effects of laserneedle acupuncture therapy in healthy adults. Methods : 25 healthy volunteers participated in this study. The volunteers were divided randomly, the real laserneedle acupuncture therapy group or the sham laserneedle acupuncture therapy group. First, After 5 minute rest, mental stress was given with stroop color word task and calculation task. And then laserneedle acupuncture therapy or sham laserneedle therapy was done on HT8(少府) for 15 minute. HRV was recorded in 3 period-before stress, after stress, and after laserneedle or sham acupuncture therapy. Results : LF was significantly increased after mental stress. And there was no significant difference between the real laserneedle acupuncture therapy group and the sham laserneedle acupuncture therapy group. Conclusions : This results show that mental stress-stroop color word test and calculation test for 10 minute- contribute to activation of the sympathetic nervous system.

Methods : The patients were treated by burning acupuncture therapy to recover injury of medical collateral ligament. The progress evaluation of knee joint pain was measured by the knee society knee score(KSKS), function score (KSFS) and visual analog scale(VAS). Results : KSKS & KSFS were increased and VAS decreased in all cases. Conclusions : We had concluded that the burning acupuncture therapy can be effective to knee joint pain caused by traumatic injury of medial collateral ligament.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to characterize the stimulation intensity in acupuncture manipulation techniques for tonification and sedation therapy. Methods : To describe the level of stimulation used in acupuncture manipulation techniques for tonification and sedation therapy, we reviewed the acupuncture manipulation techniques described in classical medical textbooks. Results : Based on the patients' conditions and pattern identification, acupuncture manipulation strategies for tonification and sedation therapy were chosen. For example, the excess condition was treated with sedative therapy, and the deficiency condition was treated with tonification therapy. For tonification therapy, weak to modest stimulation was applied in acupuncture manipulation techniques, whereas intense stimulation was applied for sedative therapy. Even though the intensity of acupuncture stimulation was chosen based on the clinical examination, deqi sensation is a crucial component of acupuncture treatment, and during acupuncture practice, the practitioner should choose the right intensity of acupuncture stimulation based on deqi response in each patient. Conclusions : We concluded that the tonifying and sedative effects of acupuncture treatment are related to the stimulation intensity of acupuncture manipulation techniques. For individualized medicine, the right amount of acupuncture stimulation should be administered based on the patients' conditions and responses, such as deqi responses.
