Cancer is a leading cause of death, and the number of cancer patients is increasing in Korea. The needs for the home care of cancer patients are increasing recently, but the standardized home care protocols are not developed yet. This study was designed to develop nursing assessment -intervention algorithms for the cancer chemotherapy patients at home. These algorithms suggest guidelines when we assess the patient's condition, and find appropriate nursing interventions, so that standardization and quality control of home care can be attained. The algorithms were processed by yes-no tree. Eleven common problems of cancer chemotherapy patients were identified by the literature review and oncology nurses' experience. These were digestive dysfunction, pain, fatigue, infection, respiratory difficulties, activity intolerance, hemorrhage, sensory disorder, edema, skin problem, and mucosal problem. The algorithm needs to be validated and modified by using for the cancer chemotherapy patients at home.
This study investigated the antioxidative activities and quality characteristics of Aster scaber Bibimbap as a home meal replacement with blanching (BASB) or without blanching (ASB) pretreatment. BASB samples at 5.0 g showed higher moisture, crude protein, and ash contents than the control (p<0.05). Color L, a, b-values of samples significantly decreased with increased content of Aster scaber powder (p<0.05). BASB samples showed lower hardness than ASB samples. BASB samples showed higher total phenolic content and DPPH radical scavenging activity than ASB samples. BASB samples showed higher sensory values for color, savory aroma, savory flavor, and aftertaste than ASB samples. Except for glossiness, BASB samples showed higher sensory acceptance scores than ASB samples. Sensory acceptance tests of all samples showed high scores for 'usually like', representing the possibility of successful development of Bibimbap as a home meal replacement, especially that containing blanching pre-treated Aster scaber powder.
This study was to investigate the learning motive types and degree of psychological well-being of middle-aged married women attending the Korea National Open University and to examine the difference in their psychological well-being according to the types of learning motives. For these purposes, a survey was conducted to 263 middle-aged married women from 36 to 60 at the Korea National Open University. The findings were as follows: First, learning motive types of middle-aged women could be classified into 3 types; a non-oriented type, an activity and goal-oriented type and a multi-oriented type. A multi-oriented types were the most popular among those. Second, the overall level of self-respect was above the median, but the life satisfaction level was below the median. Third, there was difference in their self-respect level according to the learning motive types. That is, students who had a multi-oriented learning motive were higher self-respect level than those who had an activity and goal-oriented learning motive. Therefore, lifelong education is very significance in these days when average life span is prolonged.
About a centry passed since christianity had been transmitted to our country. Now that christians outnumbers 5 millions. Christian home education are supposed to have exerted great influenced on the personality nature of children. Korean raspberry, Rubus coreanus Miquel (RCM), contains high concentrations of phenolic compounds, which prevent oxidative stress. To determine the effect of RCM on antioxidant capacity in humans, we assessed in vivo lipid oxidation and antioxidant enzyme activities from plasma in 15 healthy men. The subjects ingested 30 g of freeze-dried RCM daily for 4 weeks. Blood was taken at baseline and at the end of the study to determine blood lipid profiles, fasting plasma glucose, liver function, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzyme activities. RCM supplementation had no effect on blood lipid or fasting plasma glucose concentrations but decreased alkaline phosphatase activity. RCM supplementation increased glutathione peroxidase activities (P<0.05) but had no effect on lipid peroxidation. These results suggest that short-term RCM supplementation may offer health benefits by enhancing antioxidant capacity in a healthy population.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to measure the workload of home visit care activities and their relative values. This study examined also factors that affect the workload of home visit care activities. Methods : The participants of this study were 126 home-helpers of 50 home visit care agencies at the 2nd Long-term Care Insurance Demonstration Project. The workload of home visit care activities was divided into total work and four dimensions ; physical efforts, mental efforts, stress and time. Home visit care activities consisted of four categories with 24 items. We used magnitude estimation method to measure their relative values of the four dimensions. The participants answered the relative values of each activities based on the reference service. We used the activity for supporting their elderly's evacuation as the reference service. Results : Most of the respondents were over 40 years old female. They consumed most their time supporting elderly's going out. They consumed their highest physical, mental efforts, and stress for activities of coping with emergency situation. The Pearson correlation coefficients showed significant relationships between workload and each dimensions. This study showed that all four dimensions are statistically significant predictors of workload of home visit care activities. Also, we found that the home-helper's career affects the workload of home visit care activities. Conclusions : The workload of home visit care activities could be explained by physical efforts, mental efforts, stress and time.
This study develops and validates an objective scale to measure newspaper use at home by elementary school students and parents. We developed a preliminary scale of 59 items through the review of literature on newspaper use and mediation as well as the examination of content validity by education experts. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs. A total of 42 items were supported by 703 parents with students in grades 1-6 using exploratory factor analysis. The model included 3 categories and 9 sub-factors: instruction (modeling, restriction, and text instruction), activities (play activity, conversation, online mediation, and scrap activity), and belief (academic achievement and information acquisition). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed and validated the model fit; in addition, convergent validity, and discriminant validity, and cross validity was confirmed through correlation analysis by gender comparison and grade comparison. We also verified the validity of this scale through correlation analysis based on Yu and Jung (2012)'s newspaper mediation variables and scale in regards to children's motivation for using newspapers. Finally, internal consistency reliability and half reliability were also confirmed. In conclusion, the suitability and stability of home newspaper utilization scale for elementary students (HNUS-E) were confirmed. This scale provides parents and educators with ideas for the development of the children's literacy, cognitive, and affective domains that can be effectively used in research on newspaper use for school-aged children.
An edible wild perennial plant with extremely potent antimicrobial activity was found and identified as apiifolia Virgin's Bower (Clematis apiifolia DC) which is easily found around wet wildernesses. Fresh fruit extract of C. apiifolia exhibited minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) in the vicinity of 0.1% against various yeasts and of less than or equal to 0.4% for non-lactic acid bacteria. MICs against lactic acid bacteria were about 2.0%. The antimicrobial activity of C. apiifolia fruit was even more potent than that of garlic which has been known for its potent antimicrobial activity. The principal antimicrobial compound of fruit extract of C. apiifolia was isolated and identified by high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography as protoanemonin (a gamma lactone of 4-hydroxy-2,4-pentadienoic acid). The antimicrobial activity of C. apiifolia was stable at high temperatures, and the activity was maintained after heating at $121^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The antimicrobial compound of C. apiifolia was supposed to inhibit microorganisms by reacting with sulfhydryl groups of cellular proteins.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the 'Action Competence on Climate Change(ACoCC)' shown in 12 types of middle school 「Technology & Home Economics」 textbooks written according to the 2015 revised curriculum, and to suggest ways to improve the activity tasks. According to the results of the analysis, first, the 'knowledge on climate change' was the most frequently mentioned, and 'climate change communication' was the least frequently mentioned in the textbook among ACoCC. Second, all 12 textbooks dealt with 'knowledge about climate change' most frequently, yet the frequency of mentioning other competencies differed by publisher. In relation to the core concepts, the ACoCCs were most often discussed in the 'Management,' yet never discussed in the 'Life Design' at all. In relation to the academic sub-fields of home economics, the 'clothing life' showed the highest frequency of mentioning ACoCCs, while 'family life' the lowest frequency. Based on the results of the above analysis, it was suggested that the capacity to respond to climate change should be dealt with in the overall fields of home economics education. This study has implications as a basic study related to climate change in home economics education, and it is expected that various research and educational programs in home economics education that focus on climate change mitigation are implemented in the future.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the residents' use and occupancy-behavior in the activity areas of the senior nursing facilities, and to provide basic information to establish the appropriate physical elements for planning the activity areas. For the study, the observations in five facilities were conducted for one day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m by four researchers. The results of the study are summarized as follows: First, most of the using behaviors in the activity areas were the doing nothing or sleeping. The meals and program services were provided in only one activity area of the floor and it showed that the unit care system was perfunctorily conducted at those facilities. In the representative activity area, its openness was the main physical element influencing the spatial using frequency, while the accessibility and the openness in the sub-activity area were most important. The seating arrangements having comers were helpful for residents' interactions. Second, while facility programs and meals were provided in the specific activity area, there was no residents' occupancy in other activity areas at the same time. There were interactions including residents' conversations and watching/observations in non-designated activity areas such as the nursing stations and near corridors. But the residents' interactions and self-regulations were blocked by absence of territoriality, monotonous spatial compositions and furniture arrangements, insecurity of residents' privacy, wide or narrow areas, and isolated spatial type. Based on the results at the above, basic guidelines for planning the activity areas of senior nursing facilities can be proposed as follows: First, the isolated type and the sight interception should be avoided in representative activity areas. It should be partitioned with couple of areas through the appropriate furniture arrangements, and be prepared semi-private spaces in non-designated areas such as nursing station for the interactions among the residents and the staff. Second, in activity areas for small group, the isolated type is not also good for the residents' accessibility. The residents' privacy should be confirmed through the various spatial compositions, and enough areas need to be sure for the diverse furniture arrangements.
