In this paper, a novel hybrid configuration combining a phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) and a half-bridge resonant LLC converter is proposed for the On-Board Charger of Electric Vehicles (EVs). In the proposed converter, the PSFB converter shares the lagging-leg switches with half-bridge resonant converter to achieve the wide ZVS range for the switches and to improve the efficiency. The output voltage is modulated by the effective-duty-cycle of the PSFB converter. The proposed converter employs an active reset circuit composed of an active switch and a diode for the transformer which makes it possible to achieve zero circulating current and the soft switching characteristic of the primary switches and rectifier diodes regardless of the load, thereby making the converter highly efficient and eliminating the reverse recovery problem of the diodes. In addition an optimal power sharing strategy is proposed to meet the specification of the charger and to optimize the efficiency of the converter. The operation principle the proposed converter and design considerations for high efficiency are presented. A 6.6 kW prototype converter is fabricated and tested to evaluate its performance at different conditions. The peak efficiency achieved with the proposed converter is 97.7%.
This paper presents a new resonant converter to achieve the soft switching of power devices. Two full-bridge converters are connected in series to clamp the voltage stress of power switches at Vin/2. Thus, power MOSFETs with a 500V voltage rating can be used for 800V input voltage applications. Two flying capacitors are connected on the AC side of the two full-bridge converters to automatically balance the two split input capacitor voltages in every switching cycle. Two resonant tanks are used in the proposed converter to share the load current and to reduce the current stress of the passive and active components. If the switching frequency is less than the series resonant frequency of the resonant tanks, the power MOSFETs can be turned on under zero voltage switching, and the rectifier diodes can be turned off under zero current switching. The switching losses on the power MOSFETs are reduced and the reverse recovery loss is improved. Experiments with a 1.5kW prototype are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.

In this paper, the modular line-connected photovoltaic PCS (photovoltaic power conditioning system) is proposed. A step-up DC-DC converter using a active-clamp circuit and a dual series-resonant rectifier is proposed to achieve a high efficiency and a high input-output voltage ratio efficiently. An IncCond (incremental conductance) MPPT (maximum power point tracking) algorithm that improves MPPT characteristic is used. The PV module current is estimated without using a DC current sensor. By control a inverter using a linearized output current controller, a unity power factor is achieved. All algorithms and controllers are implemented on a single-chip microcontroller and the superiority of the proposed DC-DC converter and controllers is proved by experiments.

This paper deals with a design and fabrication of an electronic ballast for 70[W] ceramic discharge metal halide lamps. The proposed ballast is composed of a rectifier, an active power factor correction circuit (PFC), a half-bridge inverter, a LC resonant circuit and a microprocessor. The developed ballast also includes a specially designed time circuit which provides reignition signal of lamps. Running frequency of the ballast is .jet at 40[kHz] to avoid acoustic-resonance and flickering. From the experimental results, input power factor and efficiency of the ballast are estimated 99.8[%] and 93.1[%], respectively.
This paper proposes a systematic approach to the modeling of the small-signal characteristics of three-phase bridge boost rectifiers under non-sinusoidal conditions. The main obstacle to the conventional synchronous d-q frame modeling approach is that it is unable to identify a steady-state under non-sinusoidal conditions. However, for most applications under non-sinusoidal conditions, the current loops of boost rectifiers are designed to have a bandwidth that is much higher than typical harmonics frequencies in order to achieve good current control for these harmonic components. Therefore a quasi-static method is applied to the proposed modeling approach. The converter small-signal characteristics developed from conventional synchronous frame modeling under different operating points are investigated and a worst case point is then located for the current loop design. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses are presented. It is observed that operating points influence the converter low frequency characteristics but hardly affect the dominant poles. The relationship between power stage parameters, system poles and zeroes is also presented which offers good support for the system design. Both the simulation and experimental results verified the analysis and proposed modeling approach. Finally, the practical case of a parallel active power filter is studied to present the modeling approach and the resultant regulator design procedure. The system performance further verifies the whole analysis.

A new zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) push-pull pulse-width modulation (PWM) converter is proposed in this paper. The wide ZVS condition for all of the switches is obtained by utilizing the energy stored in the output inductor and magnetizing inductance. As a result, the switching losses can be dramatically reduced. A simple auxiliary circuit including two small diodes and one capacitor is added at the secondary side of a high frequency (HF) transformer to reset the primary current during the circulating stage and to clamp the voltage spike across the rectifier diodes, which enables the use of low-voltage and low-cost diodes to reduce the conducting and reverse recovery losses. In addition, there are no active devices or resistors in the auxiliary circuit, which can be realized easily. A detailed steady operation analysis, characteristics, design considerations, experimental results and a loss breakdown are presented for the proposed converter. A 500 W prototype has been constructed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed concept.
This paper presents a simple and cost-effective stand-alone rapid battery charging system of 30kW for electric vehicles. The proposed system mainly consists of active front-end rectifier of neutral point clamped 3-level type and non-isolated bi-directional dc-dc converter of multi-phase interleaved half-bridge topology with coupled inductors. The charging system is designed to operate for both lithium-polymer and lithium-ion batteries. The complete charging sequence is made up of three sub-interval operating modes; pre-charging mode, constant-current mode, and constant-voltage mode. The pre-charging mode employs the staircase shaped current profile to accomplish shorter charging time while maintaining the reliable operation of the battery. The proposed system is able to reach the full-charge state within less than 16min for the battery capacity of 8kWh by supplying the charging current of 67A. The optimal discharging algorithm for Vehicle to the Grid (V2G) operation has been adopted to maintain the discharging current of 1C. Owing to the simple and compact power conversion scheme, the proposed solution has superior module-friendly mechanical structure which is absolutely required to realize flexible power expansion capability in a very high-current rapid charging system.
In manufacturing processes, various and suitable pulse shapes are required for the purpose of material processing and the pulseshape is regarded as a dominant factor due to the specific property of processing materials. Therefore, in this study, a variable pulse width, high duty cycle Pulse Forming Network(PFN) is constructed by time sequently. The power supply for this experiment consists of three switching circuits. The PFN elements operate at low voltage and drive the primary of HV leakage transformer. The secondary of the transformer has a full-wave rectifier, which passes the pulse energy to the load in a continuous sequence of properly phased and nested increments. We investigated laser pulse width as various delay time among three switching circuit. As a result, we tan obtain various laser pulse width from about 4ms to 10ms. The maximum laser pulse width obtained at this experiment was about 10ms at delay time of 4ms among each switching circuit.

In this paper, In order to solve the problem is proposed using a new type of electronic ballast that the traditional magnetic ballasts operated at 50-60Hz have been suffered from noticeable flicker, high loss, large crest factor and heavy weight which is composed of rectifier, active power corrector, series resonant half bridge inverter, micro-controller and piezoelectric transformer for driving for driving T5 fluorescent lamp were manufactured. The proposed electronic ballast operated at high frequency (about 75kHz) shows a input power factor of more than 0.995, total harmonic distortion of less than $12\%$ and lamp current crest factor of less than 1.5, respectively. Output power and efficiency showed 28w and $85\%$, respectively. Accordingly, it is considered that the ballast using piezoelectric transformer can replace the typical electronic ballast.
An interleaved bridgeless buck-boost AC/DC converter is presented in this paper to achieve the characteristics of low conduction loss, a high power factor and low harmonic and ripple currents. There are only two power semiconductors in the line current path instead of the three power semiconductors in a conventional boost AC/DC converter. A buck-boost converter operated in the boundary conduction mode (BCM) is adopted to control the active switches to achieve the following characteristics: no diode reverse recovery problem, zero current switching (ZCS) turn-off of the rectifier diodes, ZCS turn-on of the power switches, and a low DC bus voltage to reduce the voltage stress of the MOSFETs in the second DC/DC converter. Interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) is used to control the switches such that the input and output ripple currents are reduced such that the output capacitance can be reduced. The voltage doubler topology is adopted to double the output voltage in order to extend the useable energy of the capacitor when the line voltage is off. The circuit configuration, principle operation, system analysis, and a design example are discussed and presented in detail. Finally, experiments on a 500W prototype are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.
