  • HVT(High Voltage Transformer) has been used to drive a magnetron in a microwave oven. This has some problems which are heavy weight, low efficiency and limit of output. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a boost input type active clamp AC-DC converter for magnetron driving featuring the high efficiency and improved EMI characteristics. To verify the validity of the proposed converter operation, the prototype converter of 700W was built and tested.

  • A new high efficiency active clamp forward converter suitable for the sustaining power module(SPM) of a plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. It has a wide zero voltage switching (ZVS) range without inserting additional resonant inductor. Also, it features simpler structure, lower cost, less mass, and no effective duty loss. Furthermore, voltages across all rectifier diodes are clamped on the output voltage, which results in a higher efficiency.

  • This paper present an input-series output-parallel active-clamp-forward converter for low voltage dc/dc xEV application. The converter can achieve ZVS turn-on for all switches. An accurate small signal model of the converter which includes the effect of leakage inductance is given and controller design based on modeling is described. Experimental and simulation results from a 3.2kW, 100kHz prototype are presented in order to verify the validity of the converter operation and the designed control parameters.

  • We report the performance of an open-frame type low-voltage high-current DC-DC converter module developed using an active clamp forward converter circuit and current doubler rectifier. The converter module is designed with the specifications of an 1.8V output voltage, 25A output current, and 36-75V input voltage. The synchronous rectifier is used to reduce the conduction fuss at high current level and current-mode control is adapted to enhance the flexibility in the system configuration. A prototype converter module is successfully implemented within 10mm height and half brick size (58${\times}$61mm), and recorded an 84% efficiency and 4% voltage regulation for the entire input voltage range, thereby demonstrating its application potentials to future telecommunication electronics.

  • A zero-voltage-switching(ZVS) programmable power supply employing the ZVS active clamp forward converter is suggested. Through the analysis on operation region of the supply, the constant power region and the maximum current limit region are clearly identified. Furthermore, the duty ratio range corresponding to the variation range of the output voltages and the control scheme at the minimum duty ration region are presented. Finally, in order to vefity the validity of the operation for the proposed power supply, experimental evaluation results obtained on an 1kW prototype power supply for the 198~242VAC input voltage range(220VAC$\pm$10%), the 0~25V output voltage range, and the 100kHz switching frequency are presented.

  • This paper describes the development of an open frame type high power density switching converter. It is based on the active clamp forward converter with synchronous rectifier, and packaged by using the open frame and multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB) technology to achieve the higher power density. Furthermore, the windings of transformer and inductor are also realized by multi-layer PCB so that it also contributes to achieve higher power density. Through the experiment on the prototype converter of 50[W], it is confirmed that power density of 50[W/i$n_3$] and maximum efficiency of over 91[%] are obtained.

  • In this paper, operation of isolated current-fed full-bridge converter with active clamp is investigated by simulation and experiments. Experimental waveforms show a good agreement with the corresponding simulation results. Further, losses such as conduction loss, turn-on/off loss of MOSFETs and diodes are measured and their characteristics in the converter is addressed. 200W prototype DC-DC converter is developed for verification of the derived operating modes, design rules and loss analysis.
