Active cancellation of phase noise induced by an optical fiber for delivery of optical frequency standard (광섬유를 통한 광 주파수 전송에서 광 위상 잡음의 능동 제거)

  • We have transferred a narrow-linewidth $1.5{\mu}m$ laser beam through a 525 m fiber network with excellent transfer stability. The fiber-induced optical phase noise during the fiber transmission is cancelled by configuring a noise-canceling servo. The transfer instability was $2{\times}10^{-17}$ at 1 s of averaging time. We quantitatively analyzed the transferred optical frequency in the frequency domain and in the time domain.

  • HD(High Density) 방송의 시작됨에 따라 광대역 멀티미디어 서비스에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 광대역 멀티미디어 서비스를 하기 위한 전송 매체로 광선로를 이용한 댁내 전송 방식인 FTTH(Fiber To The Home)이 주목받고 있고 특히 AON(Active Optical Network)에 비해 구축, 유지 보수비용에 장점을 가지고 있는 PON을 이용한 방식이 선호되고 있다. PON을 이용한 표준으로 현재 IEEE802.3AH Group에서 표준 완료 된 Gigabit Ethernet PON 있으나 링크 장애에 대한 안정성 고려가 빠져 있다. 이에 본 논문은 멀티미디어 서비스에서 중요시되는 링크 장애에 대한 안정성 확보를 위한 GE-PON Link Protection 방안을 제시하며 OPNET Simulation을 구현하였다.

  • The MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol is needed for the OLT(Optical Line Termination) to allocate bandwidth to ONUs(Optical Network Units) and ONTs(Optical Network Terminations) dynamically in the ATM PON(Passive Optical Network). With the protocol, the OLT gathers ONUs' informations and provides grants efficiently to each ONU. Two important functions of the MAC protocol is the grant request procedure and the grant distribution algrithm. The latter has the greatest arithmetic portion in the TC(Transmission Convergence) module, occupies a relatively large portion of the overall chip area, has often been the limiting factor in terms of speed, and should be designed to guarantee the quality of service for various traffics. In this paper, we implement the MAC with the FPGA which can allocate grants dynamically according to the queue length information and the number of active ONUs and distribute grants uniformly to minimize the cell delay variation for each ONU. The structure of the MAC scheduler for the dynamic bandwidth assignment has a programmable look-up table. Also, it has a simple structure, the less chip area, and the lower delay time.

  • With the rapidly changing information communication environment and development of technologies, the informati on networks are evolved from traditional fixed form to an active variable network that flexible large variety of data can be transferred. To reflect the needs of users, the next generation using DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division M ultiplexing) transmission system and OXC (Optical Cross Connect) form a dynamic network. After that GMPLS (Ge neralized Multi-Protocol Label Switching) can be introduced to dynamically manage and control the Reconfigurable Optical Add-drop Multiplexer (ROADM)/Photonic Cross Connect (PXC) based network. This paper propose a softw are architecture of Path Computation Element (PCE) protocol that has proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to path computation. The functional blocks and Application Programming Interface (API) of the PCE protoco l implementation are also presented.

  • The ATM-PON is regarded as an effective access network because the system transmits the various user's information through the passive optical splitter in a single platform. The ranging technology is to place all ONUs at the same distance virtually in order to form ATM-PON based on the Time Division Multiplexing (TDM). In This paper, We show the steps about ranging protocol based on ITU-T G.983.1 and ranging procedure modeling. Also, We implement the simulator that considers various environments to verify the time specifications of G.983.1. By using the simulator, We find out the wasted bandwidth which influences active ONUs during the ranging procedure.

Sea Ice Type Classification with Optical Remote Sensing Data (광학영상에서의 해빙종류 분류 연구)

  • Optical remote sensing sensors provide visually more familiar images than radar images. However, it is difficult to discriminate sea ice types in optical images using spectral information based machine learning algorithms. This study addresses two topics. First, we propose a semantic segmentation which is a part of the state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms to identify ice types by learning hierarchical and spatial features of sea ice. Second, we propose a new approach by combining of semi-supervised and active learning to obtain accurate and meaningful labels from unlabeled or unseen images to improve the performance of supervised classification for multiple images. Therefore, we successfully added new labels from unlabeled data to automatically update the semantic segmentation model. This should be noted that an operational system to generate ice type products from optical remote sensing data may be possible in the near future.

  • A passive Optical Network (PON) is famous for the most cost-efficient solution among the optical networks. This is because there is no active device between a central office and subscribers. A wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) offers each subscriber to feel unlimited bandwidth. A WDM-PON, however, has a cost problem that WDM-PON is used commercially. To solve this trouble, it is surveyed that a Sub-Carrier Multiplexing (SCM) used in a WDM-PON increases the number of subscribers. The performance of WDM/SCM-PON varies with various noises. The several FEC Codes can reduce the effects of noise and improve the performance of the system. Thus, Choosing a suitable FEC code is important work. This paper describes that a Reed-Solomon (RS) code is the most suitable code for WDM/SCM-PON at the object of 100 Mbps and $10^{-9}$ BER

  • Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers(R-SOAs) were designed with high gain, wide optical bandwidth, high thermal reliability and wide modulation bandwidth in TO-can package for the transmitter of wavelength division multiplexed-passive optical network(WDM-PON) application. Double trench structure and current block layer were introduced in designing the active layer of R-SOA to enable high speed modulation. The injection power requirement and the viable temperature range of WDM-PON system are experimentally analysed in based on Amplified Spontaneous Emission(ASE)-injected R-SOAs. The effect of the different injection spectrum in the gain-saturated R-SOA was experimentally characterized based on the measurements of excessive intensity noise, Q factor, and BER. The proposed spectral pre-composition method reduces the bandwidth of injection source below the AWG bandwidth and thereby avoids spectrum distortion impeding the intensity noise reduction originated from the amplitude squeezing.

  • The electro-optic properties of an active-matrix polymer network liquid crystal display (AM-PNLCD) with crossed polarizer films to improve its contrast ratio were evaluated. By using crossed polarizer films, it shows good contrast ratio as well as wide viewing angle and adequate response time at normal TFT-twisted nematic (TN) LCD driving voltage (2.8V).

  • In Optical Burst Switching(OBS) networks, burst loss due to contention significantly affects the performance of networks. Even if many contention resolution schemes have been proposed, most of them have focused mainly on passively resolving contentions instead of avoiding them. In this paper, we propose an active contention avoidance scheme which controls a burst sending rate according to traffic load and burst loss in a network. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can more effectively reduce the burst loss rate compared to existing OBS model with and without burst sending rate control, and at the same time guarantees throughput.
