In this paper, we propose a Small Active Command scheme which reduces the power consumption of the command bus to DRAM. To do this, we target the ACTIVE command, which consists of multiple packets, containing the row address that occupies the largest size among the addresses delivered to the DRAM. The proposed scheme identifies frequently referenced row addresses as Hot pages first, and delivers index numbers of small caches (tables) located in the memory controller and DRAM. I-ACTIVE and I-PRECHARGE commands using unused bits of existing DRAM commands are added for index number transfer and cache synchronization management. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the command bus power consumption by 20% and 8.1% on average in the close-page and open-page policies, respectively.

The web-based group collaborative systems are emerging as enterprise-wide information systems. Since data in group collaborative systems are apt to be shared among multiple concurrent users and modified simutaneously by them, the web-based group collaborative systems must support synchronous collaboration in order to provide users with synchronized and consistent views of shared data. This Paper proposes an active web server which can facilitate synchronous collaboration in web-based group collaborative systems. To accomplish such a goal, the active web server manages dependency relationships between shared data and web browsers referencing them and actively propagates changing details of the shared data to all web browsers referencing them. And, this paper examines usefullness and effectiveness of the active web server to apply it to the ball-bearing design example of concurrent engineering design systems. The prototype system of the active web server is developed on a commercial Object-oriented Database Management System (ODBMS) called OBJECTSTORE using the C++ programming language.

In this paper, we investigate the vibration control of multimodal structures and present an efficient control law that requires less energy supply than active strategies. This strategy is called modal global semi-active control and is designed to work as effectively as the active control and consume less power which represents its major limitation. The proposed law is based on an energetic management of the optimal law such that the controller follows this latter only if there is sufficient energy which will be extracted directly from the system vibrations itself. The control algorithm is presented and validated for a cantilever beam structure subjected to external perturbations. Comparisons between the proposed law performances and those obtained by independent modal space control (IMSC) and semi-active control schemes are offered.

RFID systems large volume of data, it can lead to slower queries. To achieve better query performance, we can partition into active and some nonactive data. In this paper, we propose two approaches of partitioning for efficient query support. The one is average period plus delta partition and the other is adaptive average period partition. We also present the system architecture to manage active data and non-active data and logical database schema. The data manager check the active partition and move all objects from the active store to an archive store associated with an average period plus data and an adaptive average period. Our experiments show the performance of our partitioning methods.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the program to promote self management for patients with chronic hepatitis B. Methods: The research was a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group pre-post test. The participants were 61 patients, 29 in the experimental group and 32 in the control group. A pretest and 2 posttests were conducted to measure main variables. For the experimental group, the self-management program, consisting of counseling- centered activities in small groups, was given for 6 weeks. Data were analyzed using $X^2$, t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA with PASW statistics program. Results: There were statistically significant increases in knowledge, self-efficacy, active ways of coping, and self-management compliance but not in passive ways of coping in the experimental group compared to the control group over two different times. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the self-management program is effective in increasing knowledge, self-efficacy, active ways of coping, and self-management compliance among patients with chronic hepatitis B. Therefore, it can be usefully utilized in the field of nursing for patients with chronic disease as a nursing intervention for people with chronic hepatitis B.
Cable-stayed bridges are attractive due to their beauty, reducing material consumption, less harm to the environment and so on, in comparison with other kinds of bridges. As a massive structure with long period and low damping (0.3 to 2%) under many dynamic loads, these bridges are susceptible to fatigue, serviceability disorder, damage or even collapse. Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is a suitable controlling system to reduce the vibrations and prevent the threats in such bridges. In this paper, Multi Tuned Mass Damper (MTMD) system is added to the Ahvaz cable stayed Bridge in Iran, to reduce its seismic vibrations. First, the bridge is modeled in SAP2000 followed with result verification. Dead and live loads and the moving loads have been assigned to the bridge. Then the finite element model is developed in OpenSees, with the goal of running a nonlinear time-history analysis. Three far-field and three near-field earthquake records are imposed to the model after scaling to the PGA of 0.25 g, 0.4 g, 0.55 g and 0.7 g. Two MTMD systems, passive and active, with the number of TMDs from 1 to 8, are placed in specific points of the main span of bridge, adding a total mass ratio of 1 to 10% to the bridge. The parameters of the TMDs are optimized using Genetic Algorithm (GA). Also, the optimum force for active control is achieved by Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC). The results showed that the maximum displacement of the center of the bridge main span reduced 33% and 48% respectively by adding passive and active MTMD systems. The RMS of displacement reduced 37% and 47%, the velocity 36% and 42% and also the base shear in pylons, 27% and 47%, respectively by adding passive and active systems, in the best cases.
The impact of chronic diseases on patients and their families depends on how well the family members cope with it. Therefore, research on strategies for facilitating the coping of the families in a desirable manner is very important. Dementia management strategies refer to specific means families of dementia patients use to cope with dementing illness of their family members. This study was designed to examine type of dementia management strategies utilized by families and to identify factors influencing them. The subjects in this study were 103 conveniently selected demented patients and their primary caregivers who were registered to a public health center located in Chungcheong Province. The subjects were visited by 20 home visiting nurses, and the data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The data were collected form May 2, 2001 to June 2, 2001. The findings of this study were as follows. 1. The most frequently used types of dementia management strategies were active management (M=3.36, S.D=.96), and encouragement (M=2.94, S.D=.99). Criticism was least used type of dementia management strategy (M=2.71, S.D=.99). 2. The factors influencing each management strategy were as follows; 1) The criticism management strategy was most frequently used by the primary caregivers who graduated elementary school (F=3.21, p<.05). 2) The encouragement strategy was most frequently used by the primary caregivers in a case when the patients were in the mild stage of dementia (F=2.76, p<.05), when the patients never had any treatment experiences (F=2.01, p<.05), when the family could afford the provision of treatment for the patients (F=-2.44, p<.050), and when the primary caregiver had a job (t=2.90, p<.01). 3) The active management strategy was most widely used by the primary caregivers who could afford the provision of treatment for the patients (F=-2.31, p<.05) and were in their 70s (F=3.04, p<.05). This type of management strategy was significantly more used by those who discussed the difficulties of caring with their family members (F=3.46, p<.05). 3. The use of criticism management strategies was significantly correlated with the total level of burden of the primary caregivers. But the types of encouragement and active management strategies had negative correlations with the caregivers' burden although they were not significant. Since the findings of this study showed that the criticism management strategy had a significant positive relationship with caregivers' burden, those who are more likely to use the negative management strategy should be identified in future studies. The primary caregivers who are more likely to use negative strategy should be more closely monitored and be focused as the group who should be intervened in future studies.

A power management controller circuit with switched capacitor mode down regulator and battery charger block for semi-active RFID tags was proposed and fabricated. The main purposes of the proposed switched capacitor mode down regulator and battery charger block are to reduce standby current and to provide a self-controlled thin film battery charger by detecting the received RF power, respectively. Fabricated chip area is $360,000{\mu}m^2$ and measured standby current was about $1.3{\mu}A$. To further reduction of standby current, a wake-up circuit has to be included in the power management controller.
