A new soft switching technique that improves performance of the high power factor boost rectifier by reducing switching losses is introduced. The losses are reduced by air active snubber which consists of an inductor, a capacitor a rectifier, and an auxiliary switch. Since the boost switch turns off with zero current, this technique is well suited for implementations with insulated gate bipolar transistors. The reverse recovery related losses of the rectifier are also reduced by the snubber inductor which is connected in series with the boost switch and the boost rectifier. In addition, the auxiliary switch operates with zero voltage switching. A complete design procedure and extensive performance evaluation of the proposed active snubber using a 1.2[kW] high power factor boost rectifier operating from a 90 [$V_{rms}$] input are also presented.
This study proposes a dual-output single-stage bridgeless single-ended primary-inductor converter (DOSSBS) that can completely remove the front-end full-bridge alternating current-direct current rectifier to accomplish power factor correction for universal line input. Without the need for bridge diodes, the proposed converter has the advantages of low component count and simple structure, and can thus significantly reduce power loss. DOSSBS has two uncommon output ports to provide different voltage levels to loads, instead of using two separate power factor correctors or multi-stage configurations in a single stage. Therefore, this proposed converter is cost-effective and compact. A magnetically coupled inductor is introduced in DOSSBS to replace two separate inductors to decrease volume and cost. Energy stored in the leakage inductance of the coupled inductor can be completely recycled. In each line cycle, the two active switches in DOSSBS are operated in either high-frequency pulse-width modulation pattern or low-frequency rectifying mode for switching loss reduction. A prototype for dealing with an $85-265V_{rms}$ universal line is designed, analyzed, and built. Practical measurements demonstrate the feasibility and functionality of the proposed converter.

This paper presents a wide tuning range, fine-resolution DCO (Digitally Controlled Oscillator) with an active inductor. In order to control the frequency of the DCO, the transconductance of the active inductor is tuned digitally. In addition, the DCO gain needs to be calibrated digitally to compensate for gain variations. To cover the wide tuning range, an automatic three-step coarse tuning scheme is proposed. The DCO total frequency tuning range is 1.4 GHz (2.1 GHz to 3.5 GHz), it is 58 % at 2.4 GHz. An effective frequency resolution is 0.14 kHz/LSB. The proposed DCO is implemented in 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process. The total power consumption is 6.6 mW from a 1.2 V supply voltage. The phase noise of the DCO output at 2.4 GHz is -120.67 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset.

In this paper, we propose an active 90$^{\circ}$ phase divider for application to MMIC. Because of their very large size, conventional passive 90$^{\circ}$ dividers can't be integrated on MMIC. Therefore, highly miniaturized 90$^{\circ}$ dividers are required for a development of highly integrated MMIC. For this reason, active 90$^{\circ}$ divider is indispensable because active phase divider is much smaller than conventional passive dividers, and it can be integrated on MMIC. In this work, we developed active 90$^{\circ}$ divider with emitter inductor, and it was employed for the operation of the balanced mixer in order to verify the performance of the active 90$^{\circ}$ divider. According to the results, it was found that the active 90$^{\circ}$ divider exhibited good RF performances comparable to conventional passive power dividers.

This paper presents a bandpass filter using a current differencing transconductance amplifier (CDTA)s for application to low-voltage and low-power analog signal processing systems. The presented filter employs grounding and floating active inductors, which are composed of two or three CDTAs, and is capable of realizing all the standard functions of the filter without requiring any component matching criteria or extra active components. The HSPICE simulation result of the designed active bandpass filter showed that it had a 10MHz center frequency with -2.5dB attenuated bandwidth from 9.5 MHz to 10.5 MHz, and -50dB from 8 MHz to 17 MHz.
A conventional parallel hybrid active filter has an inherent problem of large current ratings of devices used in inverter. In general, this problem has been solved by adjusting turn ratio of a matching transformer. However, making the transformer with high turn ratio may be not available for high power system due to its requirement for high voltage insulation. In this paper, a new configuration is proposed for parallel hybrid active filter. In the proposed hybrid active filter, the active filter is connected to the passive filter inductor in parallel through a matching transformer for the aim of reducing the size of inverter. Through computer simulations, we have shown the outstanding performances of the proposed topology.
In this work, we have designed a fully integrated 2.4GHz LC-tuned voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with multiple tuning inputs for a 0.25-$\mu\textrm{m}$ standard CMOS process. The design of voltage-controlled oscillator is based on an LC-resonator with a spiral inductor of octagonal type and pMOS-varactors. Only two metal layer have been used in the designed inductor. The frequency tuning is achieved by using parallel pMOS transistors as varactors and back-gate tuned pMOS transistors in an active region. Coarse tuning is achieved by using 3-bit pMOS-varactors and fine tuning is performed by using back-gate tuned pMOS transistors in the active region. When 3-bit digital and analog inputs are applied to the designed circuits, voltage-controlled oscillator shows the tuning feature of frequency range between 2.3 GHz and 2.64 GHz. At the power supply voltage of 2.5 V, phase noise is -128dBc/Hz at 3MHz offset from the carrier. Total power dissipation is 7.5 mW.
This paper proposes a novel scheme for the current controller for the grid-side converter (GSC) of permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind turbines to eliminate the high-order harmonics in the grid currents under grid voltage disturbances. The voltage unbalance and harmonics in three-phase systems cause grid current distortions. In order to mitigate the input current distortions, multi-loop current controllers are applied, where the positive-sequence component is regulated by proportional-integral (PI) controllers, and the negative-sequence and high-order harmonic components are regulated by proportional-resonance (PR) controllers. For extracting the positive/negative-sequence and harmonic components of the grid voltages and currents without a phase delay or magnitude reduction, composite observers are applied, which give faster and more precise estimation results. In addition, an active damping method using PR controllers to damp the grid current component of the resonant frequency is employed to improve the operating stability of VSCs with inductor-capacitor-inductor (LCL) filters. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

In this paper, a novel circuit topology of a three-winding coupling inductor-assisting a high-frequency PWM boost chopper type DC-DC power converter with a high boost voltage conversion ratio and low switch voltage stress is proposed for the new energy interfaced DC power conditioner in solar photovoltaic and fuel cell generation systems. The operating principle in a steady state is described by using its equivalent circuits under the practical condition of energy processing of a lossless capacitive snubber. The newly-proposed power MOSFET boost chopper type DC-DC power converter with the three-winding coupled inductor type transformer and a single lossless capacitor snubber is built and tested for an output power of 500W. Utilizing the lower voltage and internal resistance power MOSFET switch in the proposed PWM boost chopper type DC-DC power converter can reduce the conduction losses of the active power switch compared to the conventional model. Therefore, the total actual power conversion efficiency under a condition of the nominal rated output power is estimated to be 81.1 %, which is 3.7% higher than the conventional PWM boost chopper DC power conversion circuit topology.

Generally, the low-voltage customer has been used with a linear load and nonlinear load in the 3-phase 4-wire distribution system. Linear load has usually configured the resistance and inductance, current phase is slower than the voltage phase, so power factor is low. It is required for the power factor correction device prior to the phase of the current than the voltage. The capacitor is connected in parallel to the load in order to ensure a low power factor. Power converter such as an inverter is a typical non-linear load. Non-linear load generates harmonic currents in the energy conversion process. Many electrical equipment may be adversely affected by the harmonic current. There, passive or active filter have been used to reduce these harmonics current. Passive filter consisting of inductor and capacitor generates a reactive power. According to the combination of filter inductor and capacitor, reactive power can be adjusted. In this paper, we analyzed how the combination of inductor and capacitor affects the overall power factor by simulation and measurement.
