This is a fundamental research to utilize alkali activated cement(AAC) in concrete. The compressive strength of AAC concrete were measured for the various mixing ratios of activator/fly ash, and the mixing ratios of water glass, NaOH, and water among the activators. The mixing ratio of fine and coarse aggregates was maintained constantly. The relationships between the compressive strength and mixing ratios were analyzed to find the optimal mixing ratio of AAC concrete. As the results, the optimal mixing ratio of activator/fly ash in AAC concrete was 0.7, and that of water glass, NaOH, water among the activator was 4.0:1.0:2.5 for the maximum compressive strength.

The Salt attack is one of the primary factors that cause the deterioration of durability in steel reinforced concrete structure. And to depreciate the deterioration from the Salt attack in concrete structure, pozzolanic materials are used widely in recent years. In this study, experiments about the resistance of chloride infiltration of concrete according to the replacement rations of Activated Hwangtoh and various pozzolanic materials(silica fume, fly ash, blast furnace slag and non Activated/Activated Hwangtoh) are performed and the results of this study were shown as follows; 1) As the replacement ratios of Activated Hwangtoh were getting higher, the strength of concrete was increased and in case of various pozzolanic materials, strength of Activated Hwangtoh in specimen was better than that of fly ash, blast furnace slag and non Activated Hwangtoh. 2) As the replacement ratios of Activated Hwangtoh were getting higher, the resistance of chloride infiltration of concrete was increased and in case of various pozzolanic materials, silica fume is better than any other pozzolanic materials and Activated Hwangtoh was better than that of fly ash, blast furnace slag and non Activated Hwangtoh.

Portland cement production is under critical review due to high amount of CO2 gas released to the atmosphere. Attempts to increase the utilization of a by-products such as fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag to partially replace the cement in concrete are gathering momentum. But most of by-products is currently dumped in landfills, thus creating a threat to the environment. Many researches on alkali-activated concrete that does not need the presence of cement as a binder have been carried out recently. However, most study deal only with alkali-activated ground granulated blast furnace slag or fly ash, as for the combined use of the both, little information is reported. In this study, we investigated the influence of mixture ratio of fly ash/ blast furnace slag tand curing condition on the flowability and compressive strength of mortar in oder to develop cementless alkali-activated concrete. In view of the results, we found out that the mixture ratio of fly ash/blast furnace slag always results to be significant factors. But the influence of curing temperature in the strength development of mortar is lower than the contribution due to other factors. At the age of 28days, the mixture 50% fly ash and 50% ground granulated blast furnace slag activated with 1:1 the mass ratio of 9M NaOH and sodium silicate, develop compressive strength of about 65 MPa under $20^{\circ}C$ curing.

Fly ash and blast furnace slag are an industrial by-product that can be alkali-activated to yield adhesive and cementitious materials, whose production is less energy-intensive and emits less $CO_2$ than ordinary Portland cement manufacture. A laboratory investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect of alkali-activating conditions on compressive strength of fly ash/slag cement and the acid corrosion resistance of this cement. Two alkali activator solution, NaOH and waterglass + NaOH solutions, were used. Waterglass concentration was the factor that gave the highest compressive strength in all tests. The next significant factor was the NaOH concentration, followed by curing temperature. Acid corrosion resistance of FC(fly ash cement) and FSC(fly ash/slag cement), such as sulfuric$(H_2SO_4)$ and hydrochloric acid(HCl), was for better than Portland cement(PC).
Municipal landfill leachate, a major source of soil contamination and ground water pollution, causes serious environmental problems. To investigate the removal efficiency of pollutants in the leachate by sand, briquet ash, fly ash, and activated carbon columns, COD and some pollutants in the leachate passed through each column for 8 weeks were examined. Average COD removal efficiency for 8 weeks was 83%, 45%, and 43% by activated carbon, briquet ash and fly ash columns, respectively. COD was not effectively reduced by sand column. Average ${NH_4}\;^+$ removal efficiency for 8 weeks was more than 60% by ail columns. Hardness was effectively removed for 8 weeks by fly ash and activated carbon columns. Anoins including $PO_4\;^{3-}$, $CI^-$ and $SO_4^{2-}$ were not removed by all columns.

This study incorporates fine waste glass (GS) as a replacement for natural sand (NS) in fly ash (FA) based alkali activated mortar (AAm). AAms were heated at elevated temperature of 200℃, 400℃, 600℃, and 800℃ to explore the residual mass, compressive strength, thermal expansion and change in microstructure of matrix. Results showed greater resistance of AAms with increasing GS content to 50% at each temperature. Owing to the melting of GS at 800℃, the greater matrix bond was observed for AAm incorporating 75% and 100% GS as a result, the residual compressive strength was increased.

The development of a binder system with a lower carbon footprint as an alternative to Portland cement has been intensely researched. In the present study, alkali-activated fly ash exposed to carbon dioxide at an early age was characterized in compressive strength tests and by MIP, XRD and FT-IR analyses. The compressive strength of carbonated specimens experienced a dramatic increase in comparison to uncarbonated specimens. The microstructural densification of the carbonated specimens was evidenced by MIP. The XRD pattern showed peaks assigned to nahcolite, indicating that the pH was lower in the carbonated specimens. Under the carbon dioxide-rich environment, the aluminosilicate gel reached a more Si-rich state, which improved the mechanical properties of the alkali-activated fly ash.
The present study fabricated polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber-reinforced alkali-activated slag/fly ash (AASF) composites with varying mixture ratios of slag and fly ash. The thermomechanical behaviors of the AASF composites exposed to 200, 400, 600, or 800℃ were evaluated by means of compressive strength test, visual observation, and fire resistance tests. X-ray diffractometry, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and thermogravimetry tests were performed to analyze the microstructure change of the AASF composites upon exposure to high temperatures. Specimens exhibited a gradual strength loss up to 600℃, while also showing a significant decrease in the strength above 600℃. The fire resistance test revealed the occurrence of an inflection point as indicated by an increase in the internal temperature at around 200℃. In addition, specimens showed the dehydration of C-S-H gel, the presence of åkermanite, gehlenite, and anorthite upon exposure to 800℃, which is associated with the formation of macropore population with pores having diameters of 1-3 ㎛ and 20-40 ㎛. Visual observation indicated that the PVA fibers mitigated the cracking and/or spalling of the specimens upon exposure to 800℃.

The aim of the present study is to explore the possibility of utilizing fly ash and loess, as alternative to activated carbon, for the adsorption of diazinon in water. Batch adsorption experiment was performed to evaluate the influences of various factors like initial concentration, contact time and temperature on the adsorption of diazinon. The adsorption data shows that fly ash is not effective for the adsorption of diazinon. The equilibrium data for both activated carbon and loess were fitted well to the Freundlich isotherm model. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model appeared to be the better-fitting model because it has higher $R^2$ compared to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The thermodynamic parameters such as free energy (${\Delta}G$), the enthalpy (${\Delta}H$) and the entropy (${\Delta}S$) were calculated. Contrary to loess, the ${\Delta}G$ values of activated carbon were negative at the studied temperatures. It indicates that the adsorption of diazinon by activated carbon is a favorable and spontaneous process. The positive ${\Delta}H$ values of activated carbon and loess suggest that the diazinon adsorption process is endothermic in nature. In addition, the positive ${\Delta}S$ values show that increased randomness occurs at the solid/solution surface during the adsorption of diazinon.
