This paper investigates the statistical properties of waves in the sea area of Uljin, which is located in the East Sea area of Korea. The wave data were measured using AWAC (Acoustic Wave and Current Meter), which was installed at a 16-m water depth from November 2010 to March 2011. The wave data acquisition rate, Hmax, monthly mean Hs, Tz, Tp, and wave direction are summarized. The distributions of Hs and Tz were analyzed using the Hs-Tz scatter diagrams. The measurement wave data were analyzed to investigate freak wave characteristics. By comparing the wave spectrum using the measurement wave data with the wave spectrum obtained by varying the JONSWAP wave spectrum, it was possible to approximate the wave spectrum shape at the Uljin Sea area.
This study provides a description of the glottal characteristics of the word-initial low vowels /a, $\ae$/ in terms of a set of acoustic parameters and discusses glottal configuration as their acoustic correlates. Furthermore, it examines the effect of prosodic boundary on the glottal properties of the vowels, seeking an account of the possible role of prosodic structure based on prosodic theory. Acoustic parameters reported to indicate glottal characteristics were obtained from the measurements made directly from the speech spectrum on recordings of Korean and English collected from 45 speakers. They consist of two separate groups of native Korean and native English speakers, each including both male and female speakers. Based on the three acoustic parameters of open quotient (OQ), first-formant bandwidth (B1), and spectral tilt (ST), comparisons were made between the speech of males and females, between the speech of native Korean and native English speakers, and between Korean and English produced by native Korean speakers. Acoustic analysis of the experimental data indicates that some or all glottal parameters play a crucial role in differentiating the speech groups, despite substantial interspeaker variations. Statistical analysis of the Korean data indicates prosodic strengthening with respect to the acoustic parameters B1 and OQ, suggesting acoustic enhancement in terms of the degree of glottal abduction and the glottal closure during a vibratory cycle.
This paper introduces the results of acoustic loads test conducted on the upper stage assembly of KSLV-I, which is the first Korea space launch vehicle. A launch vehicle and its payloads are subjected to severe acoustic pressure loading when they lift off and ascent during the transonic periods. Acoustic loadings are spreaded out broad frequncy-spectrum up to 10,000Hz. Acoustic loads are a primary source of structural random vibration of the upper stage and payloads. Therefore, in order to verify the structural integrity of the upper stage assembly of KSLV-I and the survivability of its components under severe random vibration environment, acoustic loads test is conducted in the high intensity acoustic chamber with 142dB (overall SPL). The results show the structural design and component random vibration specifications well meet with the environmental requirements.
In this study by using EMAT(electro magnetic acoustic transducer)the artificial slit is installed on 12B-SUS pipe test piece. By making 4 cycle SH-burst (EMA) incidence to 45 .deg. angle, the signal data of pulse, received from EMAT are translated into digital-signal-processing- method SSP(Split Spectrum Processing) and Deconvolution method. The main conclusions obtained are as follows; (1) the signal data received from EMAT are translated with digital signal proc- essing of SSP-method and Deconvolution-method and this method shows exellent results more than Ultrasonic testing method does; (2) noise can well be removed by SSP with signal data, and resolution and S/N ratio are advanced; (3) when used with Ultrasonic wave general stainless steel has proporties of multiscattering and reflection phenomena, but resolution is progressed by using Deconvolution method;and (4) as addition-averaging-processing mumber is increasing, the resolution and S/N ratio are improved and the satisfactory signal is obtained.
This paper describes the machining characteristics of a developed micro grooving machine. Experiments have been conducted on the various grooving condition such as spindle revolution speed, feed rates and depth of groove. V and U-shaped blade tool and STD11 workpiece was used in this study. Evaluating the machining conditions, RMS and frequency spectrum analysis of AE(acoustic emission) signals according to each conditions were applied. As a result, this study presented the process to optimize micro grooving condition and possibility of application of AE technique in groove machining.
To classify seafloor sediments using a probabilistic neural network (PNN), the frequency-dependent characteristics of broadband acoustic scattering, which make it possible to qualitatively categorize seabed type, were collected from three different geographical areas in Korea. The echo data samples from three types of seafloor sediment were measured using a chirp sonar system operating over a frequency range of 20-220 kHz. The spectrum amplitudes for frequency responses of 35-75 kHz were fed into the PNN as input feature parameters. The PNN algorithm could successfully identify three seabed types: mud, mud/shell and concrete sediments. The percentage probabilities of the three seabed types being correctly classified were 86% for mud, 66% for mud/shell and 72% for concrete sediment.
Nondestructive nonlinear acoustic method in two dimensions is suggested as a useful tool for detecting defects in a composite layer-structured material. Spectrum level changes in fundamental and harmonic frequencies are observed in the presence of a layer type defect compared with in the absence of such a defect. It is proposed in this study that such spectrum changes we due to the mode conversion. The layer type defect makes different normal modes due to different boundary conditions in the thickness direction for the Lamb waves propagating in a layer-structured material. Specifically, the normal mode with the fundamental frequency in the case of the water-layer gap is converted to the normal mode with the second harmonic frequency in the case of the air-layer gap.
In order to seek various relationships among many design parameters employed in the design of the axial-flow fans the program which generates acoustic spectrum has been developed and its validity verified. Outputs of the program, with other outputs from a formerly developed performance prediction program, have been used to form a multi-objective function, for which an optimal design process was carried out. The present analysis shows that overall noise level and efficiency has contrasting trends, and the chord length turns out to be the most critical design variable. In the chosen design case of requirements $Q=2000m^2/min$, ${\Delta}P_s=67mmAq$, D=1.4m, the chord length of 0.2059m minimizes the overall noise level, while chord length of 0.1254m maximizes the efficiency. The resulting chord length in the balanced optimization is 0.1809m.
Damage process of CFRP laminates was characterized by Acoustic Emission (AE). The main objective of this study is to determine if the sources of AE in CERP laminates could be identified from the characteristics of the waveform signals recorded during monotonic tensile test. The time history and power spectrum of each individual wave signal recorded during test were examined and classified according to their special characteristics. The wave from and frequency of AE signal from a specimens is an aid to the determination of the extent of the different fracture mechanism such as matrix crack, debonding, fiber pull-out and fiber fracture as load is increased. Four distinct types of signals were observed regardless of specimen condition. The result showed that the AE method could be effectively used for analysis of fracture mechanism in CFRP laminates.
