The acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber can be calculated theoretically by plane wave theory. But higher order model should be considered to widen the frequency range. Mode matching method has been developed to consider higher order modes, but very complicated algebra should be used. Munjal suggested a numerical collocation method, which can overcome the shortcomings of mode matching method, using the compatibility conditions for acoustic pressure and particle velocity at the junctions of area discontinuities. But the restriction of Munjal's method is that the ratio between the area of inlet(or outlet) pipe and that of chamber must be natural number. In this paper, the new method was suggested to overcome the shortcomings of Munjal's method. The predictions by this method was also compared with those by the finite element method and Munjal's method in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the modified method presented here.
In high-speed railway (HSR) system, the structure-borne noise inside viaduct at low frequency has been extensively investigated for its mitigation as a research hotspot owing to its harm to the nearby residents. This study proposed a novel acoustic optimization method for declining the structure-borne noise in viaduct-like structures by separating the acoustic contribution of each structural component in the measured acoustic field. The structural vibration and related acoustic sourcing, propagation, and radiation characteristics for the viaduct box girder under passing vehicle loading are studied by incorporating Finite Element Method (FEM) with Modal Acoustic Vector (MAV) analysis. Based on the Modal Acoustic Transfer Vector (MATV), the structural vibration mode that contributes maximum to the structure-borne noise shall be hereinafter filtered for the acoustic radiation. With vibration mode shapes, the locations of maximum amplitudes for being ribbed to mitigate the structure-borne noise are then obtained, and the structure-borne noise mitigation performance shall be eventually analyzed regarding to the ribbing conduction. The results demonstrate that the structural vibration and structure-borne noise of the viaduct box girder mainly occupy both in the range within 100 Hz, and the dominant frequency bands both are [31.5, 80] Hz. The peak frequency for the structure-borne noise of the viaduct box girder is mainly caused by $16^{th}$ and $62^{th}$ vibration modes; these two mode shapes mainly reflect the local vibration of the wing plate and top plate. By introducing web plate at the maximum amplitude of main mode shapes that contribute most to the acoustic modal contribution factors, the acoustic pressure peaks at the field-testing points are hereinafter obviously declined, this implies that the structure-borne noise mitigation performance is relatively promising for the viaduct.

If a wall separates the bounded and unbounded spaces, then the wall's role in transporting the acoustic characteristics of the two spaces is not well defined. In this paper, we attempted to see how the acoustic characteristical of two spaces are really affected by the spatial characteristics of the wall. In order to understand coupling mechanism, we choose a finite space and a semi-infinite space separated by the flexible or rigid wall and an opening. A volume interaction can be occurred in structure boundary and a pressure interaction can be happened in the opening boundary. For its simplicity, without loosing generality, we use rather simplified rectangle model instead of generally shaped model. The source impedance is presented to the various types of boundaries. The distributions of pressure and active intensity are also presented at the cavity and structure-dominated modes. The resulting modification, shifts of mode1 frequencies and changing of standing wave patterns to satisfy both coupled boundary conditions and governing equations, are presented.
The combustion instability acts as a serious obstacle for the lean premixed combustion of gas turbine and even causes the fatal damage to the combustor and whole system. In this experiment, the pressure fluctuation is highly related to the stabilizing position of flame and fuel injection location. The fuel injection location is connected with the convection time of the fresh mixture, which is important time scale to refresh the mixtures near the flame stabilization location. The flame is extremely unstable when the alternative stabilization occurs and bulk mode frequency (${\sim}10Hz$) of pressure fluctuation is observed in this condition. It was found that the convection time scale of the fresh reactant coincided with the time scale of the bulk mode fluctuation. Hence this phenomenon results from the local equivalence ratio change caused by the pressure fluctuation induced by thermo-acoustic effects.

This paper presents phenomena of vibration and noise due to acoustic resonance in tube bank of a HRSG. Acoustic resonance is may arise when the vortex shedding frequency coincides with the acoustic natural frequency. At this tube bank, dominant frequencies of vibration in this system were 43.5, 67.5㎐. The 3$\^$rd/ acoustic natural frequency calculated was 68.5㎐. When the difference of vortex shedding frequency and acoustic natural frequency is within ${\pm}$20%, acoustic resonance could occur. In this system, in order to prevent acoustic resonance, acoustic baffle was installed in the tube bank before operating. But acoustic resonance occurred. So, we evaluate the effect of acoustic mode due to baffle extension length. After investigating, we did revise acoustic baffle to eliminate acoustic resonance effectively.
The excellent c-axis oriented zinc oxide thin films were prepared by the RF magnetron sputtering method on glass substrates. Optimum fabrication conditions of the ZnO films were such that RF power, substrate temperature, and gas pressure of mixture Ar(50%):$O_{2}$(50%) were 150 W, $200^{\circ}C$, and 5 mTorr, respectively. In these conditions, the deposition rate was $310\;{\AA}/min$, and the resistivity of the film was $1{\times}10^6\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. The ZnO film also showed high c-axis orientation and crystalinity according to XRD pattern and SEM photograph. A fabricated interdigital transducer generated 1st mode surface acoustic wave at 46.6 MHz and 2nd mode surface acoustic wave at 52.5 MHz. At the 1st mode, the phase velocity of surface acoustic wave and the electromechanical coupling coefficient were 2795 m/sec and 0.031 %, respectivly. At the 2nd mode, they were 3149 m/sec and 0.019 %. respectivly.
Optimal design of a piezoelectric smart structure is studied for cabin noise control. A cubic shaped acoustic cavity with a flat plate which covers one side is taken as the problem. The sensor signal is returned to the actuator through a negative gain. The acoustic cavity is modeled using the modal approach which represents the pressure fields in the cavity as a sum of mode shapes of the cavity with unknown coefficients. By using orthogonality of the mode shapes of the cavity, finite element equation for the structure with the influence of the acoustic cavity is derived. The objective function is the average pressure at a certain region, so-called silent zone, in the cavity and the design variables are the locations and sizes of the piezoelectirc actuator and sensor. The optimal design is performed at several frequencies and the results show a remarkable noise reduction. To see the robustness of the optimally designed result, the configuration is used to examine the noise reduction at different frequencies. By adjusting the gain at each frequencies, it is possible to reduce the noise in comparison with the result when the actuator is not activated.

Cavity tone is generated due to the feedback between flow and acoustic wave. It is recognized that the period is determined by the time required for the flow convection in one direction, the time required for the acoustic propagation in the other direction and the time for phase shift depending on the flows and mode. Most of the phenomena have been investigated by experiments and a simple but fundamental theory. But the cause of the phase shift and the correctness of the theory have not been clearly explained so far. In this paper, the phenomena are calculated numerically to obtain detail information of flow and acoustic wave to explain the mechanism including the phase. High order high resolution scheme of optimized high order compact is used to resolve the small acoustic quantities and large flow quantities at the same time. The data are reduced using cross correlation function in space and time and cross spectral density function which has phase information. Abrupt change in pressure near corner in cavity is observed and is relate to phase variation. The time required for the feedback between the flow and acoustic wave is calculated after the numerical simulation f3r various modes. The periods based on the time calculated using the above method and direct observation from the acoustic waves generated and propagated in the numerical simulation are compared. It is found that no phase shift is required if we examine the time required carefully. Rossiter's formula for the cavity tone used for quick estimation needs to be modified far some modes.
The flight vehicles have cavities such as wheel wells and bomb bays. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves. Resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect aerodynamic performance and stability. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with low aspect ratio. In the present study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's $\kappa$-$\omega$ turbulence model. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the shear layer mode" with large aspect ratio. Based on the SPL(Sound Pressure Level) analysis of the pressure variation at the cavity trailing edge, the dominant frequency was analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formul. The aero-acoustic wave analyzed with CPD(Correlation of Pressure Distribution).
