Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report a case of Korean medicine treatment accompaning myofascial trigger-point accupuncture for severe & persistent lower urinary tract symptoms after radical prostatectomy. Materials and Methods: A prostate cancer patient with severe & persistent lower urinary tract symptoms after radical prostatectomy conducted 26 months ago, was treated with Korean medicine accompaning myofascial trigger-point accupuncture. The International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS), the IPSS Quality of Life(IPSS-QoL) and the Overactive Bladder Symptom Score(OABSS) questionaires were administered to evaluate the effect of treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms. Results: After 5 month treatment with Korean medicine accompaning myofascial trigger-point accupuncture, IPSS, IPSS-QoL and OABSS progressed from 28 to 8, from 5 to 2 and from 12 to 4 respectively. Conclusion: This case study suggests that Korean medicine accompaning myofascial trigger-point accupuncture may contribute to treat severe & persistent lower urinary tract symptoms after radical prostatectomy.

Objective : This study designed to find out the effects of deep acupuncture in cerebrovascular hemiplegia. Methods : This study was performed on 30 patients with cerebrovascular hemiplegia to observe difference in temperature of skin surface between general acupuncture and deep acupuncture at Hapkok using digital infrared thermographic imaging(D.I.T.I.) Results : 1. Temperature of paralytic side is sigficantly higer $0.39{\pm}0.78^{\circ}C$ than that of contralateral side. 2. Thermal difference(${\Delta}T$) of paralytic side-contralateral side decreased $0.08{\pm}0.53^{\circ}C$ after general acupuncture, but there is no significant. $0.20{\pm}0.50^{\circ}C$ after deep acupuncture decreased significantly. So deep acupuncture is more effective than general acupuncture. 3. Thermal difference of paralytic side-paralytic side and contralateral side-contralateral side decreased significantly after acupuncture, and thermal difference of deep acupuncture on paralytic side-paralytic side decreased $0.42{\pm}1.07^{\circ}C$ more than that of general acupuncture. So deep acupuncture is more effective than general acupuncture. Conclusions: This study showed that deep acupuncture is more effective than general acupuncture In cerebrovascular hemiplegia, and further study is needed on clinical trials.

Obesity is the condition that excess fat stored in the body. Nowadays, the prevalence of obesity has greatly increased due to westernized dietary habits and changes in lifestyle. It has been proved that obesity is a risk factor of many diseases. Many methods were developed to find curative means for obesity and exercise and controlling diet were considered very effective ones. In order to find the theraputic effect of the exercise and food diary, we examined patients treated by electric accupuncture and ear accupuncture because of obesity. We observed 16 patients with obesity who visited KyungHee Univ., Kangnam Hospital of Oriental Medicine from November, 2002 to March, 2003. To rule out an bias, we excluded the patients who were treated for other disease or took medicine. Exercise in hospital was not effective for treatment of obesity, but keeping diary of diet was effcetive for the decrease of body weight(p<0.05).

Insomnia is one of the highest frequency neuropsychosis of neuropsychiatry patients and is primarily caused by major depressive disorder. This case study is about a remedy for a 33 year-old woman who has insomnia and intense depressed mood caused by the continuous family jar. Also, she had the feeling of squeezing her body, pouring cold water into her body, anorexia and feeling cold and hot turn and turn. I operated mindfullness with accupuncture, herb-medication and aroma theraphy. Especially, mindfullness and Gagamguibi-tang were effective for relaxation and the sound sleep in quality and quantity. According to this study, the traditional oriental medical remedy such as accupuncture, herb-medication is effective for the cure of insomnia and mindfullness fortifies the oriental medical remedy.

Objectives : In order to ensure safe Herbal Acupuncture treatment, the quality of needle tip is much important. Therefore we investigated micromorphological characteristics of Herbal Acupuncture needle tip according to the number of injection. Methods : We have selected the 26 Gage syringes & 29 Gage syringes that using currently in Herbal Acupuncture treatment. And we evaluated the change of shape of Herbal Acupuncture needle tip after several times of injection by Inverted System Microscope(x 200). Results & Conclusion : We found at Herbal Acupuncture needle tips had several defects such as hooked, scuffed, lump and irregular, stubbed or malformed shape in spite of new syringes. And we found at Herbal Acupuncture needle tips had several defects that is harmful to body such as mild pain, possibility of damage of tissue after several times of injection. Therefore it is necessary to pay attention to use Herbal Acupuncture needle tips.

Objectives : Insomnia, depression and anxiety disorder are widespread in elderly patients. Mood disorder and insomnia share complex theoretical and clinical relationships. We investigated if traditional Korean medical treatment and breathing meditation are effective in patient with insomnia, depression and anxiety disorder. Methods : We treated one patient with traditional Korean medical treatment such as accupuncture, herb-medication, moxa and breathing meditation Results : After Treatment, the chief complaint and accompanying symptoms were improved, and the score of BAI, SADS, BDI, PSQI, IQ were decresed. Conclusions : According to this study traditional Korean medical treatment is effective for the cure of insomnia, depression and anxiety disorder and breathing meditation forifies the traditional Korean medical treatment.

The following case illustrates the efficacy of Yanghyulgupung-tang and accupuncture therapy in the treatment of Dupung caused by cerebral infarction. The chief symptoms of the Dupung are dysesthesia in face, dizziness, and a disorder in the sense of smell (such as oversensibility or insensibility to the smell of food). Yanghyulgupung-tang is the medicine which treats women's Dupung with the deficiency syndrome of Liver. After medication to patient, the symptoms of Dupung decreases rapidily within the first week. This result supports the clinical efficacy of Yanghyulgupung-tang for the treatment of Dupung caused by cerebral infarction.

Tremor is a rhythmic and involuntary muscular contraction charaterized by oscillations of body parts. tremor often accompanies neurological disorders associated with aging. Although the disorder is not life-threatening, it can be responsible for functional disability and interpersonal relationship problems. We have recently examined a number of tremor-patients. One of them was improved significantly through the herbal medicine (Ssanghaptang-gamibang) and accupuncture, so we report it for the better treatment.

This study was conducted to evaluate effects of honeybee venom injection (VI) collected using bee venom collector compared to that of bee venom accupuncture (VA) on the body weight gain, growth rate and hematological characteristics of piglets. One hundred sixty two piglets from 15 sows were allocated in to three groups; honeybee venom subcutaneous injection groups (97 piglets from 9 sows), honeybee venom accupuncture -treated group (31 piglets from 3 sows), and non -treated control group and 30 days after birth. Honeybee venom subcutaneous injection groups divided by a syringeful; group A (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 mg ), group B (1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0 rug), and group C (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 mg). During 60 days experiment, weight gain and survivability in VI and VA treatment of pigs were higher compared with control. Survival rate during the experiment period was 96.8% in group C, 93.2 % in VA and 86.7 % in control. Weight gain and survivability were effected by VI and VA. WBC, RBC, lymphocytes, monocytes, serum total protein, and albumin concentration were not affected by VI and VA. Serum IgG concentration of VI and VA treatments were greater than that of control. In conclusion, VI and VA were effective for improving growth performance and to increase the concentrations of blood Ig G in growing pigs. No statistical differences were found for VI and VA. These results suggested that the treatment of honeybee venom injection collected using bee venom collector could be used effectively for the increase productivity.
