Effect of Other Behaviors on Self-Directed Learning Ability, Flow and Academic Achievement of Department of Radiology(science) Students in Online Classes (온라인 수업에서 방사선(학)과 학생들의 딴짓이 자기주도적 학습역량, 몰입, 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to confirm the degree of other behaviors among university students in the department of radiology(science) who experienced online classes in the COVID-19 situation and to investigate the effect of self-directed learning ability, flow and academic achievement on other behaviors. The research method was descriptive research. Data were 200 students collected from June 1 to 30 in 2022 using structured questionnaires as students in the Department of Radiology(science). Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Cronbach's pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 21.0. The result of the study showed that the other behaviors were in the order of 'having s different thought, and 'sending text messages'. other behaviors was 1.75, self-directed learning ability was 3.60, flow was 3.23 and academic achievement was 4.29. There was a significant negative correlation between other behaviors and self-directed learning ability, flow, academic achievement. Factors influencing other behaviors were academic achievement, age, flow, self-directed learning ability in that order. As a result of the above research. it is expected that specific measures and various teaching methods to be flowed in the class are need as the way to lower the other behaviors of university students in the Department of Radiology(science) is to increase academic achievement.

The Effect of Interdisciplinary Cooperation Project Learning on Communication, Problem-Solving, and Self-Directed Learning Ability of University Students (전공 간 협력 프로젝트 학습이 대학생의 의사소통, 문제해결, 자기주도적 학습능력에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore how an educator can empower students by fostering communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning ability. Method: In order to accomplish this purpose, 136 students who were attending J University and 105 students attending M University participated in the questionnaire. The students were freshman in the nursing or social welfare departments, There were 136 in the control group and 105 in the experimental group. The control group was given an applicable class of project learning. On the other hand, the experimental group was given traditional lessons once a week for 15 weeks. The research instrument used the measuring instruments developed by KEDI for communication and problem-solving and self-directed learning ability. Data was analysed by ANCOVA with SPSS/PC. Result: The results of analysis show that communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning ability significantly increased in the experimental group. Conclusion: Based on the research finding, project learning has an educational value. Interdisciplinary cooperation project learning is effective for communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning ability.

Effects of Online Practicum Based on Action Learning on Self-directed Learning Ability, Academic Self-efficacy, and Cooperation Ability of Nursing Students (액션러닝 기반 온라인 실습이 간호대학생의 자기주도적 학습능력, 학업적 자기효능감과 협업능력에 미치는효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of online practicum based on action learning on self-directed learning ability, academic self-efficacy, and cooperation ability of nursing students. Similar experimental study of single group pre-post test design was used to investigate the effects of this online class. A total of 47 nursing students who were junior grade from one college participated in this study and self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Data were analyzed by frequencies, paired t test using the SPSS/Window 21.0 program. The result of this study showed that the improvement after online practicum based on action learning was significant in self-directed learning ability(t=3.832, p<.001), academic self-efficacy(t=4.258, p<.001), and cooperation ability(t=3.853, p<.001). These findings imply the value of online practicum based on action learning to enhance competency of nursing students. In the future, more studies should be conducted in the same group including control group and blended learning method using action learning to validate the effectiveness.

The Effect of Flipped Learning based Nursing Process Education on Self-Directed Learning Ability and Academic Achievement of Nursing Students (플립러닝을 기반으로 한 간호과정 교육이 간호대학생의 자기주도적 학습능력 및 학업성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of nursing process education based on flipped learning on self-directed learning ability and academic achievement of nursing students. A quasi-experimental study employing a nonequivalent control group and pre-post design was conducted. The study group was composed of 135 college students enrolled in the 2nd grade of C nursing college as an experimental group and 103 college students enrolled in the 2nd grade of the D university nursing department as a control group. The experimental group participated in flipped learning with the theme of nursing process once a week for 5 weeks, and the control group applied the traditional teaching method. Data were analyzed using χ2-test and Independent t-test with SPSS 26.0 program. There were significant differences in self-directed learning ability(t=-4.71, p<.001) and academic achievement(t=-4.93, p<.001) of participants between experimental group and control group after completion of 5 sessions flipped learning. The results indicate that flipped learning can be used to improve self-directed learning ability and academic achievement of nursing students. As a result of this study, the basis for using flipped learning will be prepared, and furthermore, it will have a positive effect on the clinical practice and problem solving ability of nursing students.

Effects of Peer-Assisted Learning Applied to Nursing Education on Self-Directed Learning Ability, Academic Self-Efficacy and Academic chievement of Nursing Students (간호교육에 적용한 동료학습이 간호대학생의 자기주도 학습능력, 학업적 자기효능감, 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study conducted to investigate the effects of Peer-Assisted Learning(PAL) applied to nursing education on self-directed learning ability, academic self-efficacy, and academic achievement of nursing students. The research design was a pre-post-post design with an inequality control group, and a total of 229 students from G University who agreed to participate in the study were included. After the completion of regular classes, the experimental group(N=117) was given a PAL program at least once a week for 10 weeks, and the control group(N=112) was given individual self-learning for 10 weeks. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, X2-test, and independent t-test using SPSS/WIN 21.0. As a result, self-directed learning ability(t=6.50, p<.001), academic self-efficacy(t=2.01, p=.046), and academic achievement(t=4.98, p<.001) were higher in the experimental group than in the control group. As the positive effect of peer learning on nursing students was confirmed through the results of this study, it can be used as useful basic data when designing extracurricular activities for nursing education.

  • This study is a research study to determine the effect of online lecture substitution for subjects due to COVID-19 on self-directed learning ability, academic achievement, and online learning satisfaction of nursing students. From September to October 2020, the final 113 nursing students of data recovered as enrolled in the Department of Nursing at a university located in G City were analyzed. The data collected were analyzed by performing descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analysis using the SPSS 21.0 program. The study results are summarized as follows. The average score of self-directed learning was 3.32±0.39, academic achievement 3.32±0.75, and learning satisfaction was 3.31±0.78. Factors affecting online learning satisfaction were found to be preferred learning methods and academic achievement. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to design instruction and operate classes to improve online learning satisfaction by evaluating the learner's learning method in advance when running nursing school subjects as online lectures for nursing students.

Effect of Covert Narcissism, Self-directed learning Ability, Academic Achievement on Self-leadership of Nursing students (간호대학생의 내현적 자기애, 자기주도학습능력, 학업성취도가 셀프리더십에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was attempted to confirm the effects of covert narcissism, self-directed learning ability, academic achievement on self-leadership in nursing students. This study targeted 247 nursing students in B and Y cities. Data analysis was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 22.0 program. The average self-leadership of the subjects was 3.14±0.62 points, and the difference in self-leadership according to general characteristics was significant in major satisfaction (F=11.111, p<.001). There was positive correlation between self-leadership and self-directed learning ability (r=.630, p<.001), academic achievement (r=.532, p<.001), and negative correlation between covert narcissism (r=-.206, p=.001). The factors influencing the subject's self-leadership were identified as covert narcissism (β=-.147, p=.031), self-directed learning ability (β=.468, p<.001) and academic achievement (β=.282, p<.001) and the explanatory power was 46.9%. Based on the results of the study, the necessary of developing an effective education program considering the self-leadership and related factors of nursing students was suggested.

The Effects of Flipped Learning Applied to Home Economics Education on Academic Engagement, Self-Directed Learning Ability and Social Interaction of Middle School Students (가정교과에 적용한 거꾸로 수업이 중학생의 수업참여도, 자기주도학습능력 및 사회적 상호작용에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aims to investigate the effects of flipped learning applied to home economics education on improving middle school students' academic engagement, self-directed learning ability and social interaction. The subjects of this study were 129 third-grade students in middle school. To verify the effects of flipped learning adequately, 129 middle school students divided into two groups have participated in the study over a course of nine weeks. One group was taught in the traditional instructed learning method while the other one in the flipped learning methods. The two groups were taught in 13 sessions in total once or twice a week, and each session took 45 minutes. For pretest and post test, the questionnaire consisting of academic engagement scale, self-directed learning scale and social interaction scale were used. To analyze data, ANCOVA was used to examine significant differences between two groups. The main results of this study were the following : First, students who participated in flipped learning are more improved than those who participate in instructed learning in academic engagement. Second, students who joined in flipped learning are much more improved than those who joined in instructed learning in self-directed learning ability. Third, students who join in flipped learning were much more improved than those who joined in instructed learning in social interaction.

A Study of the Learning Effects by the Self-Directed Field Study of High School Students (고등학생들의 자기 주도적 야외학습의 효과에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of self-directed field learning practices on student’s academic achievement and self-directed learning characteristics regarding the level of learning ability. To conduct this study, 196 students of high school students in Busan were chosen and parted into either the experimental group (98 students) or control group (98 students). Each group is classified into three categories: high level (24 students), middle level (50 students), and low level (24 students) according to the level of learning ability by the academic achievement pre-test. The areas chosen for experimenting this study range from Dusong peninsula, Molundae in Saha-gu, Songdo in Seo-gu, Pusan. Then the inquiry-model of self-directed field learning which focuses on learner-centered activity was designed based on theories concerning field learning and self-directed learning, and was applied to the experimental group. In conclusion, this teaching method using self-directed field learning is expected to improve academic achievement in science subject and increase students’ self-directed learning characteristics regardless of the students' level of academic achievement.

The Relationship between the Satisfaction with Clinical Practice and Clinical Competence by Types of Self-directed Learning Ability of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 자기주도적 학습유형에 따른 임상실습만족도와 임상수행능력)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between the satisfaction with clinical practice and clinical performance ability by types of self-directed learning ability of nursing students. Methods: This was a triangular study that was conducted to understand clinical performance ability. The subjects were 260 junior and senior students from a university in P city. The data were collected from April 22 to December 30, 2015. Data were collected by Q-card, Q-block an assessment tool, a structured self-reporting survey and a questionnaire. Results: We classified the self-directed learning abilities into four types: Type 1: a self-reflective person; Type 2: a person who prepares for the future; Type 3: a person with a sense of responsibility and obligation; and Type 4: an enthusiastic learner. We found that clinical performance ability was higher for Type 4 than Type 3. We found that clinical performance satisfaction with clinical practice was also higher for the Type 4 individual than a Type 3 person. Conclusion: To improve students' clinical performance ability, we need plans and support to lead students toward becoming an 'enthusiastic learner' type of person with self-directed learning ability. It is necessary to increase students' satisfaction with clinical practice.
