  • This study reviews academic library users' information needs, use behaviors, and information literacy by examining previous literature related to academic library use study. The information academic library users want most is information about how to use library such as a circulation policy. Only about 10% of library users' information needs requires reference librarian's professional knowledge and skills. The sign and information system of the library should be improved and revised in order to reduce the redundant how-to questions. When academic library users attempt to do subject searches through online library system, they experience difficulties to find the right menu on the library's interface. The study recommends that special efforts should be made for user education for utilizing research information since user's information utilizing ability is unexpectedly low.

Data were collected between April and May 2022 from 118 nursing students at a university located in K City, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, two-sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression with the SPSS 18.0 program. The results showed that nursing students generally have good digital literacy, but they struggle with specific areas like material development and information evaluation. Nursing students' digital literacy (β=.311, p=.001), followed by academic self-efficacy (β=.184, p=.048), had a significant impact on problem-solving ability (F=12.237, p< .001), as explanaing 16.1% of the variation. To improve nursing students' digital literacy and problem solving, developing a more structured and situation-oriented nursing education curriculum is needed.

And through the preprocessing process for abstracts of the paper, total keyword appearance frequency, keyword appearance frequency by period, and keyword simultaneous occurrence frequency were analyzed. Subsequently, keyword network analysis analyzed the degree centrality, between centrality, and eigenvector centrality of keywords. Using structural topic modeling analysis, 15 topics -curriculum, information literacy effect, contents of information literacy education, school library education, information media literacy, information literacy ability evaluation index, library anxiety, public library program, health information literacy ability, digital divide, library assisted instruction improvement, research trend, information literacy model, and teacher role-were derived. In addition, the trend of topics by year was analyzed to confirm the change in relative weight by topic. Based on these results, the direction of information literacy education and the suggestions for follow-up research were presented.

A test questions set about locating specific library materials was delivered to participating students, who were to find right answers for each test question. Their answers about test questions were measured in terms of success rate, time used to solve each problem. Self evaluation scores were also collected before and after giving them user education. Academic library user education significantly contributed participating students' ability to locate academic library materials through a library user interface. After receiving user education students were able to solve more successfully test questions, use less time for each question, and evaluate themselves more highly in terms of information utilizing ability. The effectiveness of the academic library user education was lasted for about 8 weeks after the education they received.

  • Due to COVID-19, user instruction programs could not be conducted face-to-face, and the sessions have been moved online. The present study attempted to investigate how online user instruction influences the information literacy ability of college students. The study randomly selected college students (N=50) who completed online user instruction sessions and college college students (N=50) who did not complete them among freshment who went to to college in 2020 to measure their information literacy abilities. For this study, a tool for measuring information literacy abilities was developed by referring to several previous studies. The measurement results were analyzed by the independent samples t-test, and significant differences were found between students who completed online user instruction sessions and those who did not. The findings of the study have confirmed that it is effective in enhancing library users' information literacy abilities to provide user instruction online under the COVID-19 situation, and even in post-COVID 19 times, which helps them appropriately utilize the characteristics of digital libraries. The information literacy measurement tool used in the present study was developed to evaluate online information literacy, and thus contributed to the extension of the literature of digital information literacy and user instruction. The present study provided practical implications for how academic libraries will promote information services to cope with environmental changes in which contact-free (untact) services are obliged.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the 'Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education' filed by the ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries) Board on February 2, 2015 and adopted on January 11, 2016. Six concepts central to information literacy in Framework and four main theories or models (i.e., threshold concepts, metaliteracy, Backward Design, and Liminal Space) underpinning the Framework were analyzed. The Framework provides conceptual or descriptive approach. In addition, the Framework is not designed to be implemented in a single information literacy session in a student's academic career. Instead, it is intended to be systematically integrated into the student's academic program at variety of levels. This study recommends curricular development and assessment methods supporting Framework as a further study.
