This study aims to analyze the oral health status of the elderly. Study subjects were 9,340 elderly aged over 65 who took the health examination (the first) for the local insured when the National Health Insurance Corporation carried out its survey from January to December, 2002. The subjects took an oral examination and filled in the questionnaire. Major results from the analysis are as follows: 1. Analysis of Oral Health Behavior For oral health behavior, 38.2% of total subjects had visited a dental hospital (or clinic) in the last one year in the order of the elderly of big cities (48.3%), the elderly of medium cities (43.9%), and the elderly of rural areas (29.0%)(P<0.001). Elderly men had a higher rate than elderly women, and the younger age had a higher rate(P<0.01). For experience of oral prophylaxis, 12.3% of the total elderly had experienced it in the order of the elderly of big cities (18.8%), the elderly of medium cities (16.0%), and the elderly of rural areas (6.4%) (P<0.001). For elderly men, the younger age had a higher rate of oral prophylaxis. The number of toothbrushing in order was twice(47.5%), once (26.7%), three times (25.0%), and none (0.7%). The younger age brushed their teeth more often (P<0.001). 2. Analysis of Oral Health Status The rate of caries was 10.6% of the elderly surveyed. By area, the elderly of rural areas had a higher rate of caries than the elderly of cities (p<0.001) and elderly men were higher than elderly women (p<0.001). By age, many elderly aged over 80 had more than two caries. For missing teeth, the elderly of rural areas had a higher rate than the elderly of cities (p<0.001) and the older age had a higher rate(p<0.001). The rate of periodontal disease was 43.2% of the total elderly. By area, the elderly of big cities (46.2%) had a higher rate of periodontal disease than the elderly of medium cities (39.4%) and rural areas (43.6%)(p<0.001), and elderly men (46.4%) were higher than elderly women (40.2%)(p<0.001). By age, the lower age had a higher rate of peridontal disease (p<0.001). Dental abrasion was observed in 16.9% of the total elderly. The elderly of cities (21.0%) had a higher rate than the elderly of rural areas (12.0%)(p<0.001) and elderly men (21.3%) were higher than elderly women (12.8%)(p<0.001). Also the lower age had more dental abrasion symptoms (p<0.001). For needing a denture, the rate among the elderly was 48.5% and was higher for the elderly of rural areas(20.9%), than the elderly of big cities(7.0%) and medium cities (10.5%)(p<0.001). For the rate of denture wearing, the elderly of rural areas(41.8%) were higher than the elderly of big cities (27.7%) and medium cities (28.2% )(p<0.001). For the relation of drinking and smoking to oral health, the elderly who had a higher frequency of drinking, had a higher rate of caries (p<0.001)periodontal disease(p<0.001) and missing teeth(p<0.001) Smokers had a higher rate of caries (p<0.001), periodontal disease (p<0.05), and missing teeth (p<0.001) than nonsmokers.

Cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN) and nitric acid was used an etchant and an additive for Ru etching and polishing. pH and Eh values of the CAN and nitric acid added chemical solution satisfied the Ru etching condition. The etch rate increased linearly as the concentration of CAN increased. Nitric acid added solution had the high etch rate. But micro roughness of etched surfaces was not changed before and after etching, The removal rate of Ru film was the highest in $1wt\%$ abrasive added slurry, and not increased despite the concentration of alumina abrasive increased to $5wt\%$. Even Ru film was polished by only CAN solution due to the friction. The highest removal rate of 120nm/min was obtained in 1 M nitric acid and $1wt\%$ alumina abrasive particles added slurry. The lowest micro roughness value was observed in this slurry after polishing. From the XPS analysis of etched Ru surface, oxide layer was founded on the etched Ru surface. Therefore, Ru was polished by chemical etching of CAN solution and oxide layer abrasion by abrasive particles. From the result of removal rate without abrasive particle, the etching of CAN solution is more dominant to the Ru CMP.

This research describes that the cutting characteristics and tool wear behavior in the micro cutting of three kinds of wear resistant cemented carbides (WC-Co; V40, V50 and V60) using PCD (Poly Crystalline Diamond) and PCBN (Poly crystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) cutting tools by use of the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) direct observation method. The purpose of this research is to present reasonable cutting conditions from the viewpoint of high efficient cutting refer to a precise finished surface and tool wear. Summary of the results is as follows: (1) The cutting forces tend to increase as the increase of the weight percentage of WC particles, and the thrust forces was larger than the principal forces in the cutting of WC-Co. These phenomena were different from the ordinary cutting such as cutting of steel or cast iron. (2) The cutting speed hardly influenced the thrust force, because of the frictional force between the cutting tool edge and small WC particles at low cutting speed region such as 2$\mu\textrm{m}$/s. It seemed that the thrust cutting force occurred by the contact between the flank face and work material near the cutting edge. (3) The wear mechanism for PCD tools is abrasion by hard WC particles of the work materials, which leads diamond grain to be detached from the bond. (4) From the SEM direct observation in cutting the WC-Co, it seems that WC particles are broken and come into contact with the tool edge directly. This causes tool wear, resulting in severe tool damage. (5) In the orthogonal micro cutting of WC-Co, the tool wear in the flank face was formed bigger than that in the rake face on orthogonal micro cutting. And the machining surface integrity on the side of the cutting tool with a negative rake angle was better than that with a positive one, as well as burr in the case of using the cutting tool with a negative rake angle was formed very little compared to the that with a positive one.

Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) is an essential dielectric planarization in multilayer microelectronic device fabrication. In the CMP process it is necessary to minimize the extent of surface defect formation while maintaining good planarity and optimal material removal rates. The polishing mechanism of W-CMP process has been reported as the repeated process of passive layer formation by oxidizer and abrasion action by slurry abrasives. Thus, it is important to understand the effect of oxidizer on W passivation layer, in order to obtain higher removal rate (RR) and very low non-uniformity (NU%) during W-CMP process. In this paper, we compared the effects of oxidizer or W-CMP process with three different kind of oxidizers with 5% hydrogen peroxide such as $Fe(NO_3)_3$, $H_2O_2$, and $KIO_3$. The difference in removal rate and roughness of W in stable and unstable slurries are believed to caused by modification in the mechanical behavior of $Al_3O_3$ particles in presence of surfactant stabilizing the slurry.

With the industrial acceleration in a lot of countries of the world, the demand for anti-corrosion and anti-abrasion material increases continuously. Particularly, stainless steel with the fine surface and excellent corrosion resistance is widely used in various industrial fields including ship, offshore structures tidal power plant, and etc. In marine environment, however, it is easy to generate by the corrosion damage by $Cl^-$ ion and cavitation damage due to high rotation speed on stainless steel. Therefore, in this research, the cavitation erosion-corrosion test (Hybrid test) was performed for 304 stainless steel specimen used in the high flow rate seawater environment. And the cavitation damage behavior in the corrosive environment was analyzed overall. The high hardness was shown due to the formation of compressive residual stress by the water cavitation peening effect in cavitation condition. However, high current density in the potentiodynamic polarization experiment presented with the breakdown of the passive film caused by physical impact. Therefore, both electrochemical characteristics and mechanical properties must be taken into account to improve the cavitation resistance in seawater.

The polishing mechanism of W-CMP process has been reported as the repeated process of passive layer formation by oxidizer and abrasion action by slurry abrasives. Thus, it is important to understand the effect of oxidizer on tungsten passivation layer in order to obtain higher removal rate (RR) and very low non-uniformity (NU%) during W-CMP process. In this paper, we investigated the effects of oxidizer on W-CMP process with three different kinds of oxidizers, such as $H_2O_2$, $Fe(NO_3)_3$, and $KIO_3$. In order to compare the removal rate and non-uniformity of three oxidizers, we used alumina-based slurry of pH 4. According to the CMP tests, three oxidizers showed different removal mechanism on tungsten surface. Also, the microstructures of surface layer by AFM image were greatly influenced by the slurry chemical, composition of oxidizers. The difference in removal rate and roughness of tungsten surface are believed to caused by modification in the mechanical behavior of $Al_2O_3$ abrasive particles in CMP slurry. Our stabilized slurries can be used a guideline and promising method for improved W-CMP process.
Wire ropes have been widely used in industrial applications, wherever heavy weight should be carried safely or mechanical energy should be transmitted fast. Especially, wire rope failures in operating elevator may lead to extensive property damage and serious injury to nearby personnel. Hence, it is very important to inspect wire rope periodically. Failure defection of wire rope requires fundamental knowledge of wire rope construction, rope behavior, properties of fault, sensing and signal processing method. In this research, the development of a new fault detecting system incorporating Hall-effect sensors to detect flaws such as abrasion, broken wire, corrosion and deformation for aged wire ropes in elevator, is described. For using a detector as a portable instrument, several performances for implementing sensing part with Hall-effect sensor, analog signal processing unit and programs are described. Experiments and field testing results for the implemented detecting system are also given. As a result, it is verified that the detecting system has good efficiency for inspecting faults of aged wire ropes in service.

Recently, fabrication process of thermoplastic polyamide-based composites with recyclability as well as impact, chemical, and abrasion resistance have been widely studied. In particular, thermoplastic reactive resin transfer molding (TRTM) in which monomer with low viscosity is injected and in-situ polymerized inside mold has received a great attention, because thermoplastic melts are hard to impregnate fiber preform due to their very high viscosity. However, it is difficult to optimize the processing conditions because of high reactivity and sensitivity to external environments of the used monomer, ε-caprolactam. In this study, viscosity as an important process parameter in TRTM was measured during in-situ anionic polymerization of ε-caprolactam and the solutions for problems caused by high polymerization rate and sensitivity to moisture and oxygen were suggested. Reliability of the improved measurement technique was verified by comparing the viscosity behavior at various environmental conditions including humidity and atmosphere, and it is expected to be helpful for optimization of TRTM process.
The effect of the silane coupling agent, bis(triethoxysilypropyl)tetrasulfide (TESPT), on mechanical properties of a silica-filled NBR compound for oilseal was investigated. Curing behavior and crosslinking density of the compounds were measured using ODR (oscillating disk rheometer) and swelling ratio in toluene. UTM (universal testing machine) and shore A hardness tester were used in order to study the characteristics of mechanical properties of original vulcanizates and aged ones with heated air and ASTM No. 3. oil. Recovery of elasticity which influences the performance and service life of oilseal was investigated by giving bending deformation to vulcanizates in aging condition. After bending aging test, recovery distance was measured and calculated angle of recovery from it. TR (temperature retraction) test was performed on these vulcanizates to determine the low temperature recovery behavior. Wear resistance was measured by Taber type abrasion tester. In addition, SEM was used to characterize the morphology of the worn surface of vulcanizates. The result showed that addition of TESPT into silica-filled compound improves not only compound flow-ability, interaction between NBR and silica and crosslinking density, but also hardness, 100% modulus, recovery of elasticity, wear resistance, heat resistance and ASTM No.3 oil resistance of vulcanizates.
Many railway-advanced countries are using the various types of track to reduce the track maintenance and repair cost according to the improvement of velocity. It spends on much maintenance and repair cost for ballast track due to abrasion of ballast, track irregularity and unisotropical ballast-support stiffness. The ballast track on railway bridge is accelerating the deterioration of ballast according to interaction of railway bridge and track. As continuing the deterioration, it is caused dynamic loads. Due to these effects, it increases negative loads of track and bridge. However, when designing the railway bridge, the effect of ballast track was applicate only dead load, so elastic behavior effect of ballast track is not influenced. Therefore, this paper presumes the stiffness of ballast track on railway bridge considering dynamic behavior of railway bridge, it was evaluated that effect on dynamic behaviors of railway bridge according to ballast track stiffness.
