  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of extracts from garlic on the formation of nitrosamine, nitrosomorphorine, the nitrite scavenging ability and the antioxidant activity. The extracts from garlic made the nitrite scavenging ability higher at low pH than at high pH. Especially ethanol extracts from garlic resulted in 89.6% of nitrite scavenging ability at pH 1.2. They were also more effective in the electron donating and antioxidant abilities than water extracts in expressing as the reduction of ${\alpha},{\alpha}-diphenyl-{\beta}-picrylhydrazyl$(DPPH) and peroxide value(POV), respectively. Inhibitory effect of nitrosamine formation by ethanol extract from garlic was excellently more than 80% at pH 1.2 and 3.0, but only 29.9% at pH 6.0. This meant that the inhibition of nitrosamine formation is pH dependent.

  • In this paper, we introduce and consider a new system of relaxed cocoercive variational inequalities involving three different operators and the concept of projective nonexpansive mapping. Base on the projection technique, we suggest two kinds of new iterative methods for the approximate solvability of this system. The results presented in this paper extend and improve the main results of [S.S. Chang, H.W.J. Lee, C.K. Chan, Generalized system for relaxed co coercive variational inequalities in Hilbert spaces, Appl. Math. Lett. 20 (2007) 329-334] and [Z. Huang, M. • In this paper, we deal with the uniqueness problem for the power of p-adic meromorphic functions. The results obtained in this paper are the p-adic analogues and supplements of the theorems given by Yang and Zhang [Non-existence of meromorphic solution of a Fermat type functional equation, Aequationes Math. 76(2008), 140-150], Chen, Chen and Li [Uniqueness of difference operators of meromorphic functions, J. • The aim of this paper is to prove convergence of implicit iteration process to a common fixed point for a finite family of strong successive $\Phi$-pseudocontractive mappings. The results presented in this paper extend and improve the corresponding results of S. S. Chang [On the convergence of implicit iteration process with error for a finite family of asymptotically nonexpansive mappings, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 313(2006), 273-283], M. O. • Nitrogen doped Ge-Sb-Te (N-GST) thin films for phase change random access memory (PRAM) applications were investigated by synchrotron-radiation-based x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and absorption spectroscopy. Nitrogen doping in GST resulted in more favorable N atoms' bonding with Ge atoms rather than with Sb and Te atoms [1,2], which explains the higher phase change transition temperature than that of undoped Ge-Sb-Te thin film. Surprisingly, it was noticed that N atoms also existed in the form of molecular nitrogen, $N_2$, which is detrimental to the stability of the GST performance [3]. N-doped GST experimental features were also supported by ab-initio molecular dynamic calculations [2]. References [1] M.-C. Jung, Y. M. Lee, H.-D. Kim, M. G. Kim, and H. J. Shin, K. H. Kim, S. A. • Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) exhibits potent anti-carcinogenic and other biological activities in several animal models. We report here that dietary CLA, chemically synthesized from corn oil, accumulates I silkworm, Bombyx mori, which is used as therapeutic agent for diabetes in Korea and Japan. Mulberry leaves treated with 0.1 or 10% CLA in ethanol were supplied to silkworms from the end of 3rd instar to the 3rd day of the 5th instar. Fresh mulberry leaves or leaves treated with 10% corn oil in ethanol were fed as a check treatment. the amount of total lipids in the larval body ranged from 17.4 to 19.1mg/g of body tissue, which was not significantly affected by the source of the diets. No CLA was found in the control silkworms. But the level of CLA significantly increased to 83.5 mg/g of fat, when fed with mulberry leaves treated with 10% CLA. Only trace amounts of CLA were detected in the larvae reared with check leaves and 0.1% CLA-treated leaves. Mulberry leaves treatd with corn oil or CLA were not palatable to the larvae, resulting in a reduction of larval weight. These results suggest that silkworms containing CLA in body lipids could be producted by dietary CLA.

  • The power curve during rubber mixing presents useful information for the understanding of rubber mixing process, because the power curve is determined the mixing state of rubber at the point. The time to the second peak on the power curve is known as carbon black incorporation time, BIT. This study gets the quantity relationship of BIT and viscosity of natural rubber, so by determining the mixing time of the compound on the ground of viscosity of the raw rubber. The mixing with natural rubber and carbon black is examined for various grade natural rubbers, encompassing a wide range of Mooney viscosity. Alter smoothing the mixing power curve using a polynomial, the carbon black incorporation time, BIT, was determined time to second power peak on the curve, The BIT's versus specific values on Mooney viscometer test curve show a linear relation, Especially, the peak of initial maximum torque on Mooney viscometer curve, PMT, is most relevant property relating to the BIT. PMT is useful index for determined optimum mixing time, To apply this results at the mixing, we effectively control the natural rubber mixing but can also know the grading of natural rubber upon processability.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of environmental fators on backfat thickness and carcass weight and to investigate the carcass grade frequencies by sex, backfat thickness and carcass weight in commercial pigs. Total 20,450,773 of commercial pigs was used in this study, which were obtained from Korea institute for Animal Product Evaluation (KAPE) from July 1, 2007 to April 30, 2009. The averages of carcass weight and backfat thickness were $20.76{\pm}0.001mm$ and $85.97{\pm}0.002kg$, respectively. Carcass weight and backfat thickness of barrow were $22.55{\pm}0.002mm$ and $86.25{\pm}0.003kg$, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of males and females. The carcass weight and backfat thickness were increased with the slaughter years. In the effects of the season of slaughter, carcass weight was significantly higher in winter ($87.00{\pm}0.007kg$), and the backfat thickness was significantly higher in fall ($19.32{\pm}0.004mm$). In grade frequencies of carcass quality grade in sex, grade frequencies of high grade in barrow was higher than those of female in hot carcass and cold carcass. In grade frequencies of carcass quality grade in carcass weight, grade frequencies of high grade in 84~88kg was higher than the other groups in hot carcass and cold carcass. In grade frequencies of carcass quality grade in backfat thickness, grade frequencies of high grade in 22~24 mm was higher than other groups in hot carcass and cold carcass.

  • Intending to develop a new rubber curing process using only microwave, the both the characteristics of cure and the mechanical properties of rubbers for the tire tread, for which a green styrene-butadiene compounds had been cured with 2.45 GHz microwave, have been compared with those of the custom thermal cured rubber. The unintentional hot spot formation in the compound during the microwave curing has not found where the compound has a microwave absorbing ceramic powders in 4.18 weight percents and the supplying voltage has been adjusted to 90 volts. The new microwave process accomplished preheating to 418K in a quarter of the thermal cure time. The average tensile strength of the microwave-cured rubber indicating $190kg/cm^3$ was compatible to that of the thermal cure. In conclusion, the new microwave cure had approved to be applicable in a commercial plant.
