  • Recently, with the development of display technology, AMOLED(Active Matrix OLED) panel production and demand are increasing. Unlike LCD, AMOLED panel basically does not need backlight, so it can output clear images with low power consumption. Therefore, the AMOLED market is growing globally. Accordingly, the demand for inspection devices required for production is also expanding. The inspection device of the AMOLED panel aging system operates in conjunction with MES(Manufacturing Execution System) and MIS(Management Information System), and it is efficient to construct network environment. The inspection device used for panel aging is a pattern generator capable of outputting multiple signals. Efficient design is required to operate multiple signal generators. To solve this problem, the proposed system proposed a method for remotely controlling the signal generator remotely and a method for driving the AMOLED panel. And the timing and power setting results are presented.

Design of Pixel Circuit for AMOLED Using Pentacene TFTs (펜타센 TFT를 이용한 AMOLED 픽셀회로 설계)

  • In this paper, we designed a pixel circuit for AMOLED display based on organic thin film transistors and analyzed the operation with SPICE simulation. First, we theoretically designed the pixel circuit with the result of layout for fabricating $32\times32$ AMOLED panel, TFT W/L and capacitance of storage capacitor. And we simulated the designed pixel circuit using HSPICE for analyzing electrical performance. As a result of simulation, we identified the possibility of AMOLED display based on OTFTs.

A Study on the Discrimination Criteria of AMOLED-related Patents, a National Core Technology of Display Industry (디스플레이 분야 국가핵심기술인 AMOLED 관련 특허의 판별 기준 연구)

  • Korea operates a national core technology system to protect important technologies at the national level. In the administrative procedures of the nation's core technology, the deliberation process conducted by qualitative evaluation by related industry experts is important. As the need for timely and appropriate technology protection increased, the need to shorten the time required for administrative procedures related to the designation and removal of national core technologies was raised. Therefore, this study studied the criteria for identifying patents related to national core technologies. For AMOLED, a national core technology in the display field, LDA topic modeling was applied to related news and papers to derive important technology and its trends, and mapped to AMOLED advanced technology processes under Article 5 of the Industrial Development Act to prepare criteria for discrimination. Since then, objective verification has been conducted through AMOLED national core technology patents already known. Through this study, patents related to AMOLED national core technologies can be identified, which can shorten the time for related administrative procedures.

  • Because the brightness of an AMOLED is determined by the flowing current, each pixel of AMOLED operates via A current driving method. Therefore, it is necessary to supply power to adjust the amount of current according to THE user's requirement for AMOLED driving. In this study, an IP driver block was designed and a simulation was conducted for an AMOLED display, which supplies power as selected by users. The IP driver design focused on regulating the output power due to the OLED characteristics for the diode electric current according to the voltage to be activated by pulse-skipping mode (PSM) under low loads, and 1.5 MHz pulse-width modulation (PWM) for medium/high loads. The IP driver was designed to eliminate the ringing effects appearing from the dis-continue mode (DCM) of the step-up converter. The ringing effects destroy the power switch within the IC, or increase the EMI to the surrounding elements. The IP driver design minimized this through a ringing killer circuit. Mobile applications were considered to enable true shut-down capability by designing the standby current to fall below $1{\mu}A$ to disable it. The driver proposed in this paper can be applied effectively to the same system as the AMOLED display dual power management circuit.

  • Mobile 기술이 발달되면서 사용자의 요구도 많이 늘어나고 있는 추세이다. 그 중 기존 TFT LCD와는 다른 AMOLED가 각광을 받고 있는 상태이며 AMOLED의 여러 가지 장점으로 인해 Mobile 환경에서 많이 사용하고 있다. 하지만 AMOLED는 색상 에 따라 전류 소모가 차이가 나며 이에 따라 S/W 적으로 밝기에 대해 Battery 보상 알고리즘을 적용할 수 없다. 즉 S/W 적으로 현재 화면의 색상을 판단할 수가 없는 상황이며 이로 인해 AMOLED LCD를 사용하는 모든 Mobile Device는 Battery Gauge을 위해 전용 Gauge IC Chip을 사용할 수 밖에 없는 실정이며 이로 인해 제품 비용 및 실장에 어려움이 생기고 있다. 일반적으로 대부분의 Mobile CPU는 내부에 ADC Controller를 내장하고 있으며 AMOLED를 사용할 경우 내부의 ADC Controller를 사용할 수 가 없게 된다. 본 논문은 AMOLED의 색상에 따른 보상 알고리즘을 S/W 적으로 LCD Framebuffer Law Data를 이용하여 색상 보정을 함으로써 Mobile 환경에 좀 더 알맞은 AMOLED를 적용하기 위해 작성이 되었다.

  • Organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) have shown superior characteristics and are expected to dominate the nextgeneration flat-panel displays. Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays, however, have stringent demands on the performance of the backplane. In this paper, the development of thin-film transistors (TFTs) based on indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) on both Gen 1 and 6 glasses, and their decent characteristics, which meet the AMOLED requirements, are shown. Further, several display prototypes (e.g., 2.4" AMOLED, 2.4" transparent AMOLED, and 32" AMLCD) using IGZO TFTs are demonstrated to confirm that they can indeed be strong candidates for the next-generation TFT technology not only of AMOLED but also of AMLCD (active-matrix liquid crystal display).

  • A voltage driving AMOLED(Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) is useful for large-sized, high resolution OLED display. The conventional 2-TFTs, 1-CAP AMOLED circuit suffer from the threshold voltage variation of TFT. In this paper, a new AMOLED structure is proposed. It is composed of 5-TFTs and 2-capacitors. It is described that the operating principle and the characteristics of the proposed structure and is verified the performance by HSPICE simulation. The result of simulation shows that the effect of the threshold voltage variation in this circuit, is able to neglect.

  • AMOLED panels are being used instead of LCD panels. In addition, various process technologies for quality improvement are being studied. These studies require algorithms to perform aging correction and to extract aging correction values. In this paper, we propose a voltage setting algorithm for the aging correction of AMOLED. The voltage setting algorithm calculates and corrects the output voltage by calculating the correction value of the voltage setting. As a result, the required voltage can be supplied according to each channel in the embedded board.

A High Aperture Ratio TFT Design for Bottom Emission Type AMOLED

  • A new design for improving the aperture ratio of bottom emission type AMOLED is investigated. In conventional, the TFT of AMOLED fabrication method is "Etch Stopper (7-mask)", so the aperture ratio is limited in 28${\sim}$33% by Cs(Storage Capacitor). A high aperture ratio TFT is designed by using BCE(Back Channel Etching 5-mask) fabrication way and the aperture ratio is up to 40% shown in 2.2"AMOLED display.

  • The circuit simulation has been done on the current-programmed AMOLED and shows that the circuit which behaves as a negative capacitance can reduce the effect of parasitic capacitance fixed on the data-line and can accelerate the current programming speed as high as that required in Full HD AMOLED.
