  • VOCs such as formaldehyde and benzene in a control chamber were adsorbed onto gypsum incorporating oyster shell powder, which was solidified and dried. VOC was first exposed in air and then gypsum mortar was placed in the chamber for 180 min for adsorption. The mortar was prepared with 0, 10, 30, and 50% of oyster shell powder. Two initial concentrations of VOCs including formaldehyde were $27.7{\sim}28.5mg/m^3$ or $175{\sim}150{\mu}g/m^3$. We found out that the initial concentrations did not seem to make any difference in adsorption performance but higher oyster content strongly led to higher adsorption. We used a convection-diffusion-adsorption model to compare the experiment. The model which considers diffusion coefficients of adsorbates and affinity of the adsorbents well represented the experimental data with a fair agreement.

  • In this study, combustion behaviour were to analyze by comparing experimental data against predicted values. In developing pellet boiler performance, various factors such as combustion chamber shape, input air velocity, the amount of fuel, temperature, and fuel characteristics need to be analyzed. Analytical model using a numerical method is useful to overcome time and cost consuming by practical experiment. By controlling feeding rate of fuel, flue gas composition and temperature distribution obtained form experiment were compared with predicted values using FLUENT(ANSYS, Inc., Southpointe). Measurement were in good agreement with model predictions : with 0.60 % for $CO_2$ 0.73% for $O_2$ when compared with independent data sets.

  • This study presents the numerical results of soil-water characteristic curve for sandy soil by pore network model. The Jumunjin sand is subjected to the high resolution 3D X-ray computed tomographic imaging and its pore structure is constructed by the web of pore body and pore channel. The channel radius, essential to the computation of capillary pressure, is obtained based on the skeletonization and Euclidean Distance transform. The experimentally obtained soil-water characteristic curve corroborates the numerically estimated one. The pore channel radius defined by minimum radii of pore throat results in the slightly overestimation of air entry value, while the overall evolution of capillary pressure resides in the acceptable range. The relative permeability computed by a series of suggested models runs above that obtained by pore network model at high degree of saturation.

  • In SCRamjet engine, combustion occurs in supersonic flow with airbreathing. SCRamjet is characterized by very short combustion time in combustor, so it is very important to be mixing the air and fuel in short duration. Several methods are suggested for mixing enhancement. Among these, cavity is selected to study for enhancement of mixing. The numerical simulation is performed in the case of freestream Mach number of 2.5 and cavity located in front of fuel jet injection. CFD-Fastran, commercial code with three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with the Menter SST turbulence model were used. The results are obtained validate experiment results for same condition. Therefore, the numerical results show the mixing enhancement characteristics with a cavity.

  • In this paper, the engineering properties and estimation of drying shrinkage of concrete incorporating fly ash (FA), blast furnace slag (BS) and cement kiln dust (CKD) were discussed. FA, BS and CKD contents ranged from 0% to 20%. Water to binder ratio (W/B) also ranged from 40 to 50 %, with a 5% interval. For estimating drying shrinkage, an exponential model proposed by the author was applied, According to results, the use of FA, BS and CKD resulted in a decrease of flowability and air contents. As expected, the use of admixtures also decreases the early age strength of concrete, while at later age, due to a pozzolanic reaction of FA and BS, the compressive strength was recovered to a value comparable with that of plain concrete. For drying shrinkage, the use of admixtures led to an increase in the drying shrinkage of concrete. The exponential model suggested by the author showed good agreement between the calculated and experimental values both at early age and at later age.

  • This paper is the study on the safe design of joint controling the pressure and temperature by connecting between pipes laying with the flexible joint. This study aims at decreasing the excessive pressure applied in the pipe and preventing the accident occurrence in order to solve the pipe damage by extraction and contraction due to the pressure of open air and transport gas. The flow properties of each model are investigated through the simulation analysis by applying three kinds of the flexible joints. When transport gas passes the flexible joint, the flow characteristics of heat, pressure and velocity at pipe laying are analyzed. It is thought to be contributed to the safe design due to the shape of the flexible joint by using the result of this study. And it is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at design and show the esthetic sense.

  • The gravimetric geoid of the South Korea Region was computed on Geodetic Reference System 1980(GRS80) using a combination of satellite-derived potential coefficients and terrestrial gravaty data. $10^{\prime}{\times}10^{\prime}$ mean gravity anomalies were obtained from surface gravity data for the outer zones, $1^{\circ}{\times}1^{\circ}$ equal area mean anomalies were used for the inner zones, and point gravity anomalies were used for the innermost zones in the Stokes integration. The GRS80 potential coefficients were obtained from modification of GEM9 data and Integration was extended over a spherical cap of $30^{\circ}$ from the integration area. The results of a free-air geoid show that the systematic mean difference of approximately 2~3m in comparison of OSU89B model.

  • The permeation movements of groundwater recharge and contaminate materials receive a eat effect due to porosity and effective porosity of porous media which is composing underground consisted of saturation and unsaturated states. This study developed Frequency Domain Reflectometry(FDR) system and measurement sensor, and then carried out the laboratory experiments to measure effective porosity for unsaturated porous media. Also, I suggested dielectric mixing models(DMMs) which can calculate the effective porosity from relation of measured dielectric constants. In the experimental results the extent range of effective porosity of standard sand and river sand which are unsaturated soil sample were measured in about 65∼85 % for porosity. In relation of effective porosity and porosity, especially, effective porosity confirmed that displays decreasing a little tendency as porosity increases. This is because unsaturated soil did not reach in saturation enough by air of very small amount that exist in pore between soil particles.

  • Active tab is one of the promising technology for the BVI (blade-vortex interaction) noise reduction, and analysis of noise reduction performance is very important phase of the technology development. For the purpose of analysing the performance of noise reduction using active tab, CAMRAD II model for a model-scale rotor system was constructed utilizing structural design result and airfoil aerodynamic data generated by CFD (computational fluid dynamics) calculation. HHC strategy was applied to descent flight condition and air-load was calculated by CAMRAD II then variations of BVI noise was calculated by in-house program. Calculation result with respect to tab length and control phase changes showed BVI noise could be reduced by -3.3dB.

  • A major source of durability problems in concrete structures is the corrosion of steel by the damage of passivity layer around steel bars. As chloride ion penetration is major cause of the destruction of passivity layer, evaluation of depth and concentration profile of chloride ion is the essential factor for the service-life estimation of concrete structure. To estimate chloride ion penetration characteristics, this paper on the basis of in-situ experimental data investigated the depth and concentration profile of chloride ion penetration. The core specimens are obtained at air-zone, splash zone, and tidal zone in Wando, Masan, Incheon, Gwangyang, and donghae harbors. Colorimentric method measured the chloride ion penetration depth and ASTM C 114 evaluated the concentration profile of chloride ion. Based on experimental data, the influence of harbor location and exposure condition on chloride ion penetration is evaluated.
