What factors drive AI project success? (무엇이 AI 프로젝트를 성공적으로 이끄는가?)

  • This paper aims to derive success factors that successfully lead an artificial intelligence (AI) project and prioritize importance. To this end, we first reviewed prior related studies to select success factors and finally derived 17 factors through expert interviews. Then, we developed a hierarchical model based on the TOE framework. With a hierarchical model, a survey was conducted on experts from AI-using companies and experts from supplier companies that support AI advice and technologies, platforms, and applications and analyzed using AHP methods. As a result of the analysis, organizational and technical factors are more important than environmental factors, but organizational factors are a little more critical. Among the organizational factors, strategic/clear business needs, AI implementation/utilization capabilities, and collaboration/communication between departments were the most important. Among the technical factors, sufficient amount and quality of data for AI learning were derived as the most important factors, followed by IT infrastructure/compatibility. Regarding environmental factors, customer preparation and support for the direct use of AI were essential. Looking at the importance of each 17 individual factors, data availability and quality (0.2245) were the most important, followed by strategy/clear business needs (0.1076) and customer readiness/support (0.0763). These results can guide successful implementation and development for companies considering or implementing AI adoption, service providers supporting AI adoption, and government policymakers seeking to foster the AI industry. In addition, they are expected to contribute to researchers who aim to study AI success models.

Discovering AI-enabled convergences based on BERT and topic network

  • Various aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) have become of significant interest to academia and industry in recent times. To satisfy these academic and industrial interests, it is necessary to comprehensively investigate trends in AI-related changes of diverse areas. In this study, we identified and predicted emerging convergences with the help of AI-associated research abstracts collected from the SCOPUS database. The bidirectional encoder representations obtained via the transformers-based topic discovery technique were subsequently deployed to identify emerging topics related to AI. The topics discovered concern edge computing, biomedical algorithms, predictive defect maintenance, medical applications, fake news detection with block chain, explainable AI and COVID-19 applications. Their convergences were further analyzed based on the shortest path between topics to predict emerging convergences. Our findings indicated emerging AI convergences towards healthcare, manufacturing, legal applications, and marketing. These findings are expected to have policy implications for facilitating the convergences in diverse industries. Potentially, this study could contribute to the exploitation and adoption of AI-enabled convergences from a practical perspective.

A Study on The Effect of Perceived Value and Innovation Resistance Factors on Adoption Intention of Artificial Intelligence Platform: Focused on Drug Discovery Fields (인공지능(AI) 플랫폼의 지각된 가치 및 혁신저항 요인이 수용의도에 미치는 영향: 신약 연구 분야를 중심으로)

  • The pharmaceutical industry is experiencing a productivity crisis with a low probability of success despite a long period of time and enormous cost. As a strategy to solve the productivity crisis, the use cases of Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Bigdata are increasing worldwide and tangible results are coming out. However, domestic pharmaceutical companies are taking a wait-and-see attitude to adopt AI platform for drug research. This study proposed a research model that combines the Value-based Adoption Model and the Innovation Resistance Model to empirically study the effect of value perception and resistance factors on adopting AI Platform. As a result of empirical verification, usefulness, knowledge richness, complexity, and algorithmic opacity were found to have a significant effect on perceived values. And, usefulness, knowledge richness, algorithmic opacity, trialability, technology support infrastructure were found to have a significant effect on the innovation resistance.

Case study and implications for AI-powered predictive maintenance in the railroad industry (철도산업에서 AI기반 예측 유지보수를 위한 사례 연구 및 시사점)

  • This study aims to analyze the concept and application of AI-based predictive maintenance in the railroad industry and draw implications from it. Focusing on the adoption of AI-based maintenance systems by the Korea Railroad Corporation and Seoul Metro, we examined how AI technology can improve the efficiency and safety of railroad operations. We also compared and analyzed the application of AI technology in the European railroad industry through the cases of Deutsche Bahn in Germany and SNCF in France. The study found that AI-powered predictive maintenance contributes to reducing the frequency of breakdowns, reducing maintenance costs, and increasing the reliability of railroad operations.

  • Purpose This study investigates the impact of organizational characteristics on organizational performance through case studies of smart factory implementation in the context of Korean small and medium Enterprises (SMEs). To achieve this goal, this study adopts the smart factory index of KOSMO (Korea Smart Manufacturing Office) established by Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups. We visited 3 firms implemented smart factory projects. This study presents the results of field study in detail with evaluation criteria on how organizational competences like AI technology adoption and facility automation can be exploited to positively influence organizational performance through smart factory implementation. Design/methodology/approach There are not so many results of empirical studies related to smart factories in Korea. This is because organizational support and user involvement are required for facility AI platform service beyond factory automation after the start of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Korean government's KOSMO (Korean Smart Manufacturing Office) has developed and proposed a level measurement index for smart factory implementation. This study conducts case studies based on the level measurement method proposed by KOSMO in the process of conducting case studies of three companies belonging to the root and mechanic industries in Korea. Findings The findings indicate that organizational competences, such as facility AI platform adoption and user involvement, are antecedents to influence smart factory implementation, while smart factory implementation has significant relationship with organizational performance. This study provides a better understanding of the connection between organizational competences and organizational performance through smart factory case studies. This study suggests that SMEs should focus on enhancing their organizational competences for improving organizational performance through implementing smart factory projects.

Exploring the Perceived Value of Generative AI and the Determinants of Continuous Use Intention (생성형 인공지능(Generative AI)에 대한 지각된 가치와 지속이용의도 결정요인 탐색)

  • By inputting consumer satisfaction as an exogenous variable into the value-based adoption model, this study explored the factors that influence the user's intention to continue using image-centered generative AI. Briefly presenting the main results, first, enjoyment did not significantly affect perceived value, but usefulness had a positive effect on perceived value. Second, Fee and technicality had a negative effect on perceived value. Third, perceived value had a positive effect on consumer satisfaction and continuous use intention. Fourth, consumer satisfaction had a positive effect on continuous use intention. Based on the above results, it is important to recognize the usefulness of image-centered generated AI and enjoyment in the process of use in order to increase the user's intention to continue using image-centered generated AI, and at the same time, it will be important to increase the user's perceived value and satisfaction by minimizing the reasonable fee and complexity in the method of use at the level acceptable to the users.

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly gaining recognition in the radiology domain as a greater number of radiologists are becoming AI-literate. However, the adoption and implementation of AI solutions in clinical settings have been slow, with points of contention. A group of AI users comprising mainly clinical radiologists across various Asian countries, including India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan, formed the working group. This study aimed to draft position statements regarding the application and clinical deployment of AI in radiology. The primary aim is to raise awareness among the general public, promote professional interest and discussion, clarify ethical considerations when implementing AI technology, and engage the radiology profession in the ever-changing clinical practice. These position statements highlight pertinent issues that need to be addressed between care providers and care recipients. More importantly, this will help legalize the use of non-human instruments in clinical deployment without compromising ethical considerations, decision-making precision, and clinical professional standards. We base our study on four main principles of medical care-respect for patient autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice.

The Empirical Analysis of Factors Affecting the Intention of College Students to Use Generative AI Services (대학생의 생성형 AI 서비스 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대한 실증분석)

  • Generative AI services, including ChatGPT, were becoming increasingly active. This study aimed to empirically analyze the factors that promoted and hindered the diffusion of such services from a consumer perspective. Accordingly, a research model was developed based on the Value-based Adoption Model (VAM) framework, addressing both benefit and sacrifice factors. Benefits identified included usefulness and enjoyment, while sacrifices were security and hallucination. The study analyzed how these factors affected the intention to use generative AI services. A survey was conducted among college students for empirical analysis, and 200 valid responses were analyzed. The analysis utilized structural equation modeling with AMOS 24. The empirical results showed that usefulness and enjoyment had a significant positive impact on perceived value, while security and hallucination had a significant negative impact. The order of influence on perceived value was usefulness, hallucination, security, and then enjoyment. Perceived value had a significant positive impact on usage intention. Moreover, perceived value was found to mediate the relationship between usefulness, enjoyment, security, hallucination, and the intention to use generative AI services. These findings expanded the research horizon academically by validating the effectiveness of generative AI services based on existing models and demonstrated the continued importance of usefulness in a practical context.

  • New drug discovery and development research enable clinical treatment that saves human life and improves the quality of life, but the possibility of success with new drugs is significantly low despite a long time of 14 to 16 years and a large investment of 2 to 3 trillion won in traditional methods. As artificial intelligence is expected to radically change the new drug development paradigm, artificial intelligence new drug discovery and development projects are underway in various forms of collaboration, such as joint research between global pharmaceutical companies and IT companies, and government-private consortiums. This study uses the TOE framework and the Value-based Adoption Model, and the technical, organizational, and environmental factors that should be considered for the acceptance of AI technology at the level of the new drug research organization are the value of artificial intelligence technology. By analyzing the explanatory power of the relationship between perception and intention to use, it is intended to derive practical implications. Therefore, in this work, we present a research model in which technical, organizational, and environmental factors affecting the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies are mediated by strategic value recognition that takes into account all factors of benefit and sacrifice. Empirical analysis shows that usefulness, technicality, and innovativeness have significantly affected the perceived value of AI drug development systems, and that social influence and technology support infrastructure have significant impact on AI Drug Discovery and Development systems.

Topic Modeling on Patent and Article Big Data Using BERTopic and Analyzing Technological Trends of AI Semiconductor Industry (BERTopic을 활용한 텍스트마이닝 기반 인공지능 반도체 기술 및 연구동향 분석)

  • The Fourth Industrial Revolution has spurred widespread adoption of AI-based services, driving global interest in AI semiconductors for efficient large-scale computation. Text mining research, historically using LDA, has evolved with machine learning integration, exemplified by the 2021 BERTopic technology. This study employs BERTopic to analyze AI semiconductor-related patents and research data, generating 48 topics from 2,256 patents and 40 topics from 1,112 publications. While providing valuable insights into technology trends, the study acknowledges limitations in taking a macro approach to the entire AI semiconductor industry. Future research may explore specific technologies for more nuanced insights as the industry matures.
