  • ADS(Address Display Period Separation) driving method has been considered to be the most appropriate driving technique for AC PDP. ADS driving method is composed of reset, address, sustain and erase period. Therefore, a long time should be allocated to an address period, which results in a reduction of brightness. To realize a high luminance and high picture quality, it is necessary to high speed addressing. However, address discharge time lag increases as the temperature decreases, which can cause the misfiring and low picture quality In this paper, the electric field effect and priming particle effect are investigated in order to reduce the address discharge time lag at low temperature. Address discharge time lag was reduced effectively when the priming particles are provided.

  • ADS(Address Display period Separation) driving method has been considered to be the most appropriate driving technique for AC PDPs. However when the ADS driving method is applied to the high-resolution AC PDP, the required long addressing time often becomes a problem. In this paper, we present a new waveform for reducing the addressing time and for the stable addressing discharge. In this new waveform, a wall charge acceleration pulse is applied to the common electrode right after 80us scan time. In this way, the charge generated by the addressing discharge is accelerated to the electrodes. Experiments using the wall charge acceleration pulse showed that we could stably address an AC PDP with the scan pulses having pulse width of 1 us

  • A new sustainer with primary-side integration of DC/DC converters and energy recovery(SPIDER) circuits is proposed. The proposed circuit operates as a DC-DC converter during address period and energy recovery circuit during sustain period. Therefore, the conventional three electronic circuits composed of the power supply, X-driver, and Y-driver can be reduced to one circuit. As a result, it has desirable advantages such as a simple structure, less mass, fewer devices and cost reduction. Moreover, since the Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) of all power switches can be guaranteed, a switching loss can be considerably decreased. To confirm the operation, validity, and features of the proposed circuit, experimental results from a prototype for 42-inch PDP are presented.

  • Conventional PDP power system, which commonly uses two isolation transformer, consists of sustaining power ($V_S$), addressing power($V_A$), and Multi power($V_M$). Because each of these power conversion circuits use transformer and control IC, there are several defects: decrease of efficiency, rise of cost, and parts stress. This paper is proposed the method which operates PDP power system only with one transformer. The proposed method contributes not only to high-efficient performance of the DC/DC power stage and improvement of reliability but also to reduction of cost by reducing volume and size. Also, proposed method is proper to Address Display-period Separation(ADS) which is one of the driving methods of PDP. Superiority of the proposed method is proved by comparison with conventional method and theoretical, experimental analysis.

  • This paper deals with the relationship between the addressing and the display in ac-PDP. Especially, deals with the transfer probability of surface discharge according to addressing voltage (Va), blocking voltage(Vg) in addressing period and the characteristics of luminance according to sustain voltage(Vs) in sustaining period with ADS(Address Display period Separation) driving method.

  • Until now, there is no report for the relationship between the condition of addressing and the characteristics of surface discharge in ac- PDP. We have known that such experiments were important to drive a-PDP. Therefore, This paper deals with the probability of transfer and the characteristics of luminance according to addressing voltage (Va), blocking voltage (Vg)in addressing period and sustain voltage(Vs)in sustaining period and we use waveform according to ADS (Address and Display period Separation) method.
