Prototyping Training Program in Immersive Virtual Learning Environment with Head Mounted Displays and Touchless Interfaces for Hearing-Impaired Learners

  • The purpose of the study was to identify key design features of virtual reality with head-mounted displays (HMD) and touchless interface for the hearing-impaired and hard-of-hearing learners. The virtual reality based training program was aimed to help hearing-impaired learners in machine operating learning, which requires spatial understanding to operate. We developed an immersive virtual learning environment prototype with an HMD (Oculus Rift) and a touchless natural user interface (Leap Motion) to identify the key design features required to enhance virtual reality for the hearing-impaired and hard-of-hearing learners. Two usability tests of the prototype were conducted, which revealed that several features in the system need revision and that the technology presents an enormous potential to help hearing-impaired learners by providing realistic and immersive learning experiences. After the usability tests of hearing-impaired students' exploring the 3D virtual space, interviews were conducted, which also established that further revision of the system is needed, which would take into account the learners' physical as well as cognitive characteristics.

청소년의 스마트폰 중독수준에 따른 자아탄력성과 부모양육태도 불일치의 차이 (The Differences of the Ego-Resilience and Disagreement in Parents' Rearing Attitude according to the Levels of the Smartphone Addiction of Adolescents)

  • 본 연구는 청소년의 스마트폰 중독수준에 따른 자아탄력성과 부모양육태도 불일치의 차이를 알아봄으로써, 자아탄력성과 부모양육태도의 일치성이 청소년의 스마트폰 중독을 예방하는 데 있어 중요한 요인이 됨을 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 317명의 중, 고등학생을 대상으로 스마트폰 중독 척도, 자아탄력성 척도, 부모양육태도 척도를 실시하여 분석하였고, 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구대상자들의 스마트폰 중독 수준은 고위험 사용자군 17명(5.3%), 잠재적 위험 사용자군 50명(15.8%), 일반 사용자군 250명(78.9%)으로 나타나, 스마트폰 중독 위험군이 21.1%로 나타났다. 둘째, 스마트폰 고위험 사용자군은 잠재적 위험 사용자군과 일반 사용자군에 비해 자아탄력성 점수가 유의미하게 낮은 것으로 나타났고, 일반 사용자군에 비해 부모 양육태도 불일치 점수가 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구결과는, 개인요인인 자아탄력성과 가정환경요인인 부모 양육태도 불일치가 청소년들의 스마트폰 중독과 관련이 높음을 보여주는 것으로서, 자아탄력성을 높이고 부모가 일치된 태도로 자녀를 양육하는 것이 청소년들의 스마트폰 중독을 예방하고 치료하기 위한 하나의 방안이 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

네모파 전압전류법 측정을 위한 블루투스 기반 휴대형 포텐쇼스탯 (A Portable Potentiostat with Bluetooth Communication for Square wave Voltammetry Measurement)

  • This paper describes the development of a portable potentiostat which can perform square wave voltammetry on electrochemical sensors and wireless transmission of the measured data to a smartphone using Bluetooth. The potentiostat consists of a square wave potential pulse generation circuit for applying the potential pulse to the electrochemical sensor, a reduction/oxidation (or redox) current measurement circuit, and Bluetooth for wireless data transmission to an Android-based smartphone. The measured data are then processed to show the output graph on the smart phone screen in real time. This data transformation into a graph is carried out by developing and installing a simple transformation application software in the Android-based smartphone. This application software also enables the user to set and change the measurement parameters such as the applied voltage range and measured current range at user's convenience. The square voltammetry output data measured with the developed portable potentiostat were almost same as the data of the commercial potentiostat. The measured oxidation peak current with the commercial potentiostat was $11.35{\mu}A$ at 0.26 V and the measured oxidation peak current with the developed system was $12.38{\mu}A$ at 0.25 V. This proves that performance of the developed portable measurement system is comparable to the commercial one.

  • The Fuel cell Rubber tired Train (FRT), which is now getting the attention as the next generation vehicle with its environment-friendliness, is the transportation for smooth connections of city traffic. It is the revival of the surface-car system with its revaluation of the function and technological development. Accordingly, fixed time operation and high speed driving became possible. FRT is operated together with other vehicles on the regular drive way. While this vehicle can solve the problem of traffic congestion in the urban area, it also can be cost-effective when it is compared to the cost of subway construction. It is also designed to minimize the underground or elevated traffic lane, to introduce the new construction technology, to reduce a term of works, and to cut down the operation cost by unmanned automatic driving system. Furthermore, it is considered as the alternative measure of other transportation due to its potential for the ecological way of speed improvement and the accessability to the disabled, elderly and children by developing the vehicle with folding steps or by building the high boarding platforms. In this research, I concentrated on the user oriented interior design of the FRT to make it passenger-friendly and safe in order to maximize the utilization of the vehicle so that all users including wheelchaired, user with baby carriage, elderly and children can conveniently use this vehicle.

가상현실기술을 이용한 원격휠체어접근성평가시스템의 개발 (Development of a Remote Wheelchair Accessibility Assessment System Using Virtualized Reality Technology)

  • Home modification has come to be recognized as an important intervention strategy to manage health care conditions, maintain or improve functioning, ensure safety, and reduce the wheelchair user's dependency on others. However, the availability of skilled professionals with experience in home modifications for accessibility is limited. A system that enables accurate remote assessments would be an important tool to improve our ability to perform home assessments more easily and at decreased cost. A Remote Wheelchair Accessibility Assessment System (RWAAS) using Virtualized Reality(VR) technology was developed that enabled clinicians to assess the wheelchair accessibility of users' built environments from a remote location. Characteristics of the camera and 3D reconstruction program chosen for the system significantly affect its overall reliability. In this study, we performed two reliability analyses on the hardware and software components: 1) Verification that commercial software can construct sufficiently accurate 3D models by analyzing the accuracy of dimensional measurements in a virtualized environment; 2) comparison of dimensional measurements with four camera settings. Based on these two analyses, we were able to specify a consumer level digital camera and the Photomodeler Pro software for this system. And we then tested the feasibility of the selected software and hardware in an actual environment. Lastly, A field evaluation was performed to test whether this new system is comparable to the traditional method of accessibility assessment to evaluate its ability to assess the accessibility of a wheelchair user's typical built environment. The results of field trials showed high congruence between the assessments by two methods. Findings suggested that the RWAAS assessments have the potential to enable specialists to assess potential accessibility problems in built environments regardless of the location of the client, home, or specialist.

통합 물환경 관리를 위한 개방형 모델링 플랫폼 고찰 (A Review of Open Modeling Platform Towards Integrated Water Environmental Management)

  • A modeling system that can consider the overall water environment and be used to integrate hydrology, water quality, and aquatic ecosystem on a watershed scale is essential to support decision-making in integrated water resources management (IWRM). In adapting imported models for evaluating the unique water environment in Korea, a platform perspective is becoming increasingly important. In this study, a modeling platform is defined as an ecosystem that continuously grows and provides sustainable values through voluntary participation- and interaction-of all stakeholders- not only experts related to model development, but also model users and decision-makers. We assessed the conceptual values provided by the IWRM modeling platform in terms of openness, transparency, scalability, and sustainability. I We also reviewed the technical aspects of functional and spatial integrations in terms of socio-economic factors and user-centered multi-scale climate-forecast information. Based on those conceptual and technical aspects, we evaluated potential modeling platforms such as Source, FREEWAT, Object Modeling System (OMS), OpenMI, Community Surface-Dynamics Modeling System (CSDMS), and HydroShare. Among them, CSDMS most closely approached the values suggested in model development and offered a basic standard for easy integration of existing models using different program languages. HydroShare showed potential for sharing modeling results with the transparency expected by model user-s. Therefore, we believe that can be used as a reference in development of a modeling platform appropriate for managing the unique integrated water environment in Korea.

EOG와 마커인식을 이용한 착용형 사용자 인터페이스 (Wearable User Interface based on EOG and Marker Recognition)

  • 최근 많은 착용형 컴퓨터가 개발되었지만, 아직도 입력 및 출력 관점에서 보면 사용자 인터페이스에 많은 문제를 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 EOG 감지 회로와 마커 인식에 기반한 착용형 사용자 인터페이스를 제안한다. 제안된 사용자 인터페이스에서 EOG 감지 회로는 지시 장치로 사용되는데, 눈 주위의 전위차를 감지함으로써 눈동자의 움직임을 추적한다. 사용자가 다루고자 하는 객체는 사람이 인지 가능한 마커로 표시되며 마커 인식 시스템은 카메라 영상으로부터 마커를 검출하고 인식한다. 마커가 인식되면 해당하는 객체에 대한 속성창과 마커 창이 HMD에 디스플레이되고 사용자는 원하는 속성이나 메소드를 선택함으로써 객체를 다루게 된다. EOG 감지 회로와 마커 인식 시스템을 이용함으로써 사용자는 착용형 컴퓨팅 환경에서 눈동자의 움직임만으로 객체의 조작을 손쉽게 수행할 수 있다.

노인용 당뇨치료제 안전사용설명서 개발 및 평가: 수행능력 기반 사용자 평가 활용 (Developing and Evaluating a Drug Information Leaflet of Antidiabetics for Senior Citizens; Employing Performance-based User-testing)

  • Objective: The study purpose was to develop a drug information leaflet for the elderly and to evaluate it with performance-based user-testing. Methods: We performed a stratified randomized controlled trial. We recruited 62 elderly patients with age of 65 or above who were taking antidiabetic medications at the point of participating and excluded those who suffered illiteracy. We randomly allocated them into the intervention group with a leaflet for the elderly and the control group with a leaflet for the general public. Main outcome measures were to 'be able to find information' and to 'be able to understand information.' We measured outcome variables by employing performance-based user-testing and analyzed data to find any differences between two groups with t-tests, chi-squared tests or Fisher's exact tests accordingly. Results: More participants in the intervention group understood how to store their medications than those in the control group (intervention group 93% vs. control group 70%; p=0.02). There were no significant differences in other information items between two groups. Mostly 'being able to understand information' was lower than 'being able to find information.' The gaps between two outcome variables were about 10% in the intervention group and about 18% in the control group. The lowest understanding was observed in information relating to drug names and their potential adverse events. Conclusion: Without providing personalized drug information, it might be hard for the elderly to improve their drug knowledge even with leaflets that were developed specifically for the elderly.

CCR 기반 스마트 헬스케어 서비스에 대한 탐색적연구 (An Exploratory Study on CCR-based Smart Healthcare Services)

  • 본 연구는 스마트 헬스케어 서비스에 대한 탐색적 연구로 멀티채널을 이용한 CCR 기반 헬스케어 서비스 시스템에 대한 개요와 작동원리를 살펴보고, 이러한 서비스가 사용자들과의 상호 커뮤니케이션이 중요한 역할과 기능인만큼 서비스 품질이 사용자 만족 및 지속사용의도에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 이를 위해, 헬스케어 디바이스 및 앱을 소유 및 이용한 경험이 있는 사용자 188명을 대상으로 구조방정식모형(SEM)으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 헬스케어 서비스에 대한 서비스 품질(유형성, 신뢰성, 공감성, 반응성, 보증성)은 모두 사용자 만족에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사용자 만족도 지속사용의도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 발견되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 CCR 기반 스마트 헬스케어 서비스의 효과와 잠재적인 가치를 탐색하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 이를 통해 개인의 건강상태 관리와 예방에 대한 정확한 정보와 개인 맞춤형 서비스를 제공하는 향후 스마트 헬스케어 시스템의 발전에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

  • "부풀어지는 마우스"는 부피가 변하는 유저 인터페이스 기기이다. 이 마우스는 우리가 흔히 사용하는 마우스의 부피만큼 부풀어지는 것뿐만 아니라 사용하지 않을 때에는 납작하게 줄어들어 노트북 컴퓨터의 PC 카드 슬롯에 보관될 수 있다. 이 기기는 일반 마우스와 동일하게 사용 가능할 뿐만 아니라 마우스 풍선 안의 기압을 측정함으로써 새로운 인터랙션을 제공해 주고 있다. 또한 이 기기는 기존에 압력 센싱 인터랙션이 갖고 있는 한계점인 양방향 제어와 효율적인 피드백의 부재를 해결하고 있다. 나아가 제어 수단뿐만 아니라 표현의 수단으로도 활용 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 부풀어지는 마우스의 프로토타입 디자인에 대해서 설명하고 압력제어를 통해 줌인과 같은 응용 가능한 시나리오를 소개하고자 한다. 또한, 감성 및 커뮤니케이션 도구로의 활용 가능성도 기대 할 수 있다.
