  • Generally, the tracking performance of optical disk drive(ODD) system can be improved using a disturbance observer(DOB). However, a DOB is not easily applied in an ODD system because an additional microprocessor, such as a digital signal processor(DSP), is needed. This paper shows how a DOB system can be replaced by the error-based modified disturbance observer(EM-DOB) when two mathematical conditions are satisfied. Due to the simplified structure of EM-DOB, the algorithm is easily implemented as an analog circuit, which is suitable for the ODD servo system. Additionally, in these algorithms, disturbances rejection performances can be tuned as Q filter parameters. Similar to a DOB system, three design guidelines of a Q filter can be applied. Experimental results of DOB and EM-DOB are evaluated under forced disturbances.

  • This paper proposes estimation model of uncertainty in vibration measurement of shipboard equipment and analyzes the result of uncertainty estimation. Vibration of shipboard equipments affects underwater radiated noise that is important performance related to stealth of the naval vessel. Acceptance testing for shipboard equipment is required to guarantee the stealth performance of naval vessel. In measuring, detailed uncertainty estimation is essential to improve measuring reliability. Acceptance testing result of structure-borne noise and vibration is used to analyze uncertainty in vibration measurement of shipboard equipment.

  • The k-ary n-cube $Q^k_n$ is widely used in the design and implementation of parallel and distributed processing architectures. It consists of $k^n$ identical nodes, each node having degree 2n is connected through bidirectional, point-to-point communication channels to different neighbors. On $Q^k_n$ we would like to transmit packets from a source node to 2n destination nodes simultaneously along paths on this network, the $i^{th}$ packet will be transmitted along the $i^{th}$ path, where $0{\leq}i{\leq}2n-1$. In order for all packets to arrive at a destination node quickly and securely, we present an $O(n^3)$ routing algorithm on $Q^k_n$ for generating a set of one-to-many node-disjoint and nearly shortest paths, where each path is either shortest or nearly shortest and the total length of these paths is nearly minimum since the path is mainly determined by employing the Hungarian method.

  • One of the distinct features of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is duty cycling mechanism, which is used to conserve energy and extend the network lifetime. Large duty cycle interval introduces lower energy consumption, meanwhile longer end-to-end (E2E) delay. In this paper, we introduce an energy consumption minimization problem for duty-cycled WSNs. We have applied Q-learning algorithm to obtain the maximum duty cycle interval which supports various delay requirements and given Delay Success ratio (DSR) i.e. the required probability of packets arriving at the sink before given delay bound. Our approach only requires sink to compute Q-leaning which makes it practical to implement. Nodes in the different group have the different duty cycle interval in our proposed method and nodes don't need to know the information of the neighboring node. Performance metrics show that our proposed scheme outperforms existing algorithms in terms of energy efficiency while assuring the required delay bound and DSR.

  • The BOD removal efficiency according to HRT of the continuous inflow SBR process was decreased from 92.1 ~ 96.0% at HRT 9 ~ 15 h to 86.9 ~ 90.7% at HRT 6 h, but a stable removal efficiency was shown up to HRT 6 h. The T-N removal rate was decreased to 80.1 ~ 87.9% at HRT 12 ~ 15 h, to 71.9 ~ 87.0% at HRT 9 h, and to 60.1 ~ 65.7% at HRT 6 h. As a result of the test of removing organic matter and nitrogen, the optimum HRT of the continuous inflow SBR reactor is determined as 9 h. The TCODcr removal efficiency was 88.4 ~ 96.0% and the TBOD removal efficiency was 92.1 ~ 98.1% as a result of examination of organic matter removal efficiency according to a change in the recycling rate (1 ~ 5Q) at HRT 9 h, suggesting that the a change in the recycling rate has a minimal effect on the removal of organic matter. The T-N removal efficiency was 70.3 ~ 80.4% at 1 ~ 2Q, 77.2 ~ 85.6% at 3Q and 61.5 ~ 80.8% at 4 ~ 5Q according to a change in the recycling rate. The TP removal efficiency was reduced to 75.0 ~ 84.6% at 1 ~ 4Q and to 63.3 ~ 72.4% at 5Q. This is presumably because the release and ingestion of phosphorus (P) by microorganisms is not performed smoothly at 5Q or more. Therefore, the optimum recycling rate for removing organic matter and nutrients was found to be 3Q.

  • Generalized Fibonacci and Lucas sequences ($U_n$) and ($V_n$) are defined by the recurrence relations $U_{n+1}=PU_n+QU_{n-1}$ and $V_{n+1}=PV_n+QV_{n-1}$, $n{\geq}1$, with initial conditions $U_0=0$, $U_1=1$ and $V_0=2$, $V_1=P$. This paper deals with Fibonacci and Lucas numbers of the form $U_n$(P, Q) and $V_n$(P, Q) with the special consideration that $P{\geq}3$ is odd and Q = -1. Under these consideration, we solve the equations $V_n=5kx^2$, $V_n=7kx^2$, $V_n=5kx^2{\pm}1$, and $V_n=7kx^2{\pm}1$ when $k{\mid}P$ with k > 1. Moreover, we solve the equations $V_n=5x^2{\pm}1$ and $V_n=7x^2{\pm}1$.

  • We here report the whole genome sequence of Ligilactobacillus agilis C7 with anti-listerial activity, which was isolated from pig feces. The genome size of L. agilis C7 (~ 3.0 Mb) is relatively larger compared with other L. agilis strains. L. agilis C7 carries three bacteriocin gene clusters encoding garvicin Q, salivaricin A, and Blp family class II bacteriocin. Garvicin Q and salivaricin A are reported to be active against Listeria monocytogenes and Micrococcus luteus, respectively, as well as against other Gram-positive bacteria. Meanwhile, the bacteriocin encoded in the blp cassette was shown to be active against pneumococci, mediating intraspecies competition. This report highlights the potential of L. agilis C7 for the production of bacteriocins inhibiting pathogenic bacteria.

  • Background: The evaluation of suitable reference genes as normalization controls is a prerequisite requirement for launching quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (RT-qPCR)-based expression study. In order to select the stable reference genes in abalone Haliotis discus hannai tissues (gill and hepatopancreas) under heavy metal exposure conditions (Cu, Zn, and Cd), 12 potential candidate housekeeping genes were subjected to expression stability based on the comprehensive ranking while integrating four different statistical algorithms (geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and ${\Delta}CT$ method). Results: Expression stability in the gill subset was determined as RPL7 > RPL8 > ACTB > RPL3 > PPIB > RPL7A > EF1A > RPL4 > GAPDH > RPL5 > UBE2 > B-TU. On the other hand, the ranking in the subset for hepatopancreas was RPL7 > RPL3 > RPL8 > ACTB > RPL4 > EF1A > RPL5 > RPL7A > B-TU > UBE2 > PPIB > GAPDH. The pairwise variation assessed by the geNorm program indicates that two reference genes could be sufficient for accurate normalization in both gill and hepatopancreas subsets. Overall, both gill and hepatopancreas subsets recommended ribosomal protein genes (particularly RPL7) as stable references, whereas traditional housekeepers such as ${\beta}-tubulin$ (B-TU) and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) genes were ranked as unstable genes. The validation of reference gene selection was confirmed with the quantitative assay of MT transcripts. Conclusions: The present analysis showed the importance of validating reference genes with multiple algorithmic approaches to select genes that are truly stable. Our results indicate that expression stability of a given reference gene could not always have consensus across tissue types. The data from this study could be a good guide for the future design of RT-qPCR studies with respect to metal regulation/detoxification and other related physiologies in this abalone species.

  • To evaluate appropriate reference genes for the normalization of quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) data with embryonic and larval samples from Russian sturgeon Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, the expression stability of eight candidate housekeeping genes, including beta-actin (ACTB), elongation factor-1A (EF1A), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), histone 2A (H2A), ribosomal protein L5 (RPL5), ribosomal protein L7 (RPL7), succinate dehydrogenase (SDHA), and ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 (UBE2A), were tested using embryonic samples from 12 developmental stages and larval samples from 11 ontogenic stages. Based on the stability rankings from three statistic software packages, geNorm, NormFinder, and BestKeeper, the expression stability of the embryonic subset was ranked as UBE2A>H2A>SDHA>GAPDH>RPL5>EF1A>ACTB>RPL7. On the other hand, the ranking in the larval subset was determined as UBE2A>GAPDH>SDHA>RPL5>RPL7>H2A>EF1A>AC TB. When the two subsets were combined, the overall ranking was UBE2A>SDHA>H2A>RPL5>GAPDH>EF1A>ACTB>RPL7. Taken together, our data suggest that UBE2A and SDHA are recommended as suitable references for developmental and ontogenic samples of this sturgeon species, whereas traditional housekeepers such as ACTB and GAPDH may not be suitable candidates.
