Environmental Analysis for Discovering Specialized Local Sports Tourism (지역 특화 스포츠관광 발굴을 위한 환경 분석)

  • This is an environmental analysis study for discovering specialized local sports tourism and aims to provide implications for the development of sports tourism industry in the Chuncheon region by analyzing the current status of domestic and overseas sports tourism and presenting overseas cases of specialized regional sports tourism. Therefore, through SWOT analysis and secondary data survey, implications for the development direction according to facilities, programs, and public relations and marketing were derived. Sports tourism contributes to vitalization of local economy by converging with local tourism centering on sports participation or viewing. Thus, it must be organized with differentiated products taking into account the characteristics of the area. An investigation of the main components of domestic and overseas sports tourism shows that mega sports events or specialized local leisure sports are connected to tourism resources for commercialization. In Korea, 3 to 4 local areas are discovered and supported annually through the specialized local sports tourism promotion program. This study suggests a development plan by evaluating and analyzing the performance of the Chuncheon Spo-Tour program. In terms of facility, it is necessary to construct accommodation facilities that harmonize with the natural environment, develop new programs connected to Songam Sports Town, and reinforce existing equipment. In terms of program, it is necessary to develop canoe/kayak water courses utilizing Uiam-Lake, train professionals to operate programs, and develop programs that take into consideration seasonal characteristics as well as the level of each participants. In terms of PR/marketing, it is important to build competitiveness by using ICT, improving public awareness of the sites, and adopting reasonable pricing policies. The development of specialized local sports tourism products through remedies and efforts will contribute to vitalization of local economy.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate the competitiveness of ports in ASEAN(Association of Southeast Asian Nations), which plays a leading role in basing the hub of international logistics strategies as a countermeasure in changes of international logistics environments. This region represents most severe competition among Mega hub ports in the world in terms of container cargo throughput at the onset of the 21st century. The research method in this study accounted for over lapping between attributes, and introduced the HFP method that can perform mathematical operations. The scope of this study was strictly confined to the ports of ASEAN, which cover the top 100 of 350 container ports that were presented in Containerization International Yearbook 2002 wi th reference to container throughput. The results of this study show Singapore in the number one position. Even compared with major ports in Korea (after getting comparative ratings and applying tile same data and evaluation structure), the number one position still goes to Singapore and then Busan(2) and Manila(2), followed by Port Klang(4), Tanjung Priok(5), Tanjung Perak(6), Bangkok(7), Inchon(8), Laem Chabang(9) and Penang(9). In terms of the main contributions of this study, it is the first empirical study to apply the combined at tributes of detailed and representative attributes into the advanced HFP model which was enhanced by the KJ method to evaluate the port competitiveness in ASEAN. Up-to-now, none have comprehensively conducted researches with sophisticated port methodology that has discussed a variety of changes in port development and terminal transfers of major shipping lines. Moreover, through the comparative evaluation among major ports in Korea and ASEAN, the presentation of comparative competitiveness for Korean ports is a great achievement in this study. In order to reinforce this study, it needs further compensative research, including cost factors which could not be applied to modeling the subject ports by lack of consistently qualified data in ASEAN.

Isolation and Characterization of a Novel Polysaccharide Producing Bacillus polymyxa A49 KCTC 4648P

  • The strain A49, which produces a new type of extracellular polysaccharide was isolated from soil samples. From morphological, physiological and biochemical tests, the strain A49 was identified as a Bacillus polymyxa and named Bacillus polymyxa A49. Bacillus polymyxa A49 was found to produce a highly viscous extracellular polysaccharide when grown aerobically in a medium containing glucose as the sole source of carbon. The polysaccharide (A49 POL) showed a homogeneous pattern on gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and its molecular weight was estimated to be about 1.6 mega dalton (mDa). The FT-IR spectrum of A49-POL revealed typical characteristics of polysaccharides. As a result of investigations with HPLC and carbozole assay, A49-POL was found to consist of L-fucose, D-galactose, D-glucose, D-mannose, and D-glucuronic acid, with the molar ratio of these sugars being approximately 1:2:7:50:12. Rheological analysis of A49 POL revealed that it is pseudoplastic and has a higher apparent viscosity at dilute concentrations than does xanthan gum. The consistancy factor of A49 POL was found to be higher, and the flow index of A49 POL lower, than xanthan gum. Its apparent viscosity was comparatively unstable at various temperatures. the A49 POL showed the highest apparent viscosity at pH 3. When salts were added to A49 POL solution, the solution was compatible with up to 10% KCl, 35% NaCl, 55% $CaCl_2$, 55% $MgCl_2$, 55% $K_2HPO_4$, and 110% $Ca({NO_3})_2$, respectively.

  • Due to the changes of shipping and logistic environment, Asian ports today face severe competition. To be a mega-hub port, Asian ports have achieved a big scale development. For these reasons, it has been widely recognized as an important study to analyze and evaluate characteristics of Asian ports, from the standpoint of Korea where Busan Port is located. Although some previous studies have been reported, most of them have been beyond the scope of Asian ports and analyzed the world's major ports; moreover, the studied ports have been about the ports which are well known from the previous research and reports. So, most studies is unlikely to be used as substantial indicators from the perspective of Busan Port. In addition. most of the existing studies have used hierarchical evaluation algorithm for port ranking, such as AHP (analytical hierarchy process) and clustering analysis. However, these two methods have fundamental weaknesses from the algorithm perspective. The aim of this study is to classify major Asian ports based on competitiveness level. Especially. in order to overcome serious problem of the existing studies, major Asian ports were analyzed by using objective indicators. and Fuzzy C-Means algorithm, which alleviates the weakness of the clustering method. It was found that 10 ports of 16 major Asian ports have their own phases and were classified into 4 port groups. This result implies that some ports have higher potential as ports to lead some zones in Asia. Based on those results. present status and future direction of Busan port were discussed as well.

An Empirical Study on Improving Competitiveness of Korean Shipping Industry (한국 해운산업의 경쟁력강화 정책방안에 관한 실증연구)

  • This study analyzes the achievement of the shipping policies and the priority for the promotion of such policies, in order to consider the features of the shipping industries in Korea and other advanced shipping countries and manage the rapidly changing shipping environment actively. Based on such analysis, this study also discusses the promotional strategy to strengthen the international competitiveness of the shipping industry. Regarding the promotion of the related policies, it is necessary to establish a base for growth, strengthen a capacity of leading the market, and create an opportunity in the market. By considering such three factors, it has become known that the establishment of the market order is important for the establishment of a base for growth. It is important to consider the advancement of the shipping tax system. Also, the information-orientation and the knowledge-industrialization of the shipping industry need to be considered. In order to strengthen a capacity of leading the market, the stable security of the labor force in the shipping industry is the most important factor. Also, it is important to consider the development and the upbringing of the global mega career and the shipping business. Regarding the creation of an opportunity in the market, it is important to expand the range of the shipping exchange between South Korea and North Korea, which will influence the administrative and the operative results related with the promotion of the related policies.

Structural Performance and Behavior of Concrete Floating Container Terminal by Live Load Distributions (활하중 분포에 따른 콘크리트 부유식 컨테이너 터미널의 구조성능 및 거동)

  • In this study, comparative analysis has been performed with regard to a bending stress and deformation at bottom slab of a concrete floating container terminal by live load distributions. In addition, a structural performance and behavior of the floating structure is considered using a numerical analysis. Through reviewed structural performance of a floating structure by live load distribution, the structure presented tensile behavior by two live load cases (A, B, D-type). Then, the other live load cases (C, E, F, G, H, I, J-type) shows compressive behavior. Especially, immoderately compressive stress was generated on bottom slab at specific load distribution. but, that should be decreased through controling buoyancy pre-flexion. Through reviewed structural behavior, slopes of structure by four live load cases (B, E, F, H-type) were exceeded in design criteria of mega-float. It should be estimated that it get out of the load case at loading container. In all, the present study can be considered as a benchmark of a floating container terminal in the absence of analysis and will be used to guide-line about serviceability of concrete floating container terminal.

Delineation of Functional Economic Areas in Korea based on Inter-firm Transaction Networks (기업 간 거래망에 기초한 기능적 경제권의 설정)

  • The study aims to identify economic interdependencies between regions and define functional economic areas of Korea by analyzing inter-firm transaction networks. Previous research has relied on pre-given administrative boundaries or cultural homogeneity and used data such as commuting, population movement, and cargo flows which could not fully explain economic activities. To overcome the limitations, this study applies a community detection method to inter-firm transaction networks derived from the CRETOP+ database of Korean corporate data. The novel dataset and the network analysis enables us to identify Korea's functional economic areas based on actual inter-firm linkages. The result shows that there are six to seven economic blocs in the networks as of 2018. In particular, one huge economic bloc is formed integrating the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong, and Gangwon provinces. Meanwhile, North Jeolla and South Jeolla provinces form two economic blocs separately rather than being tied up in one bloc due to the low frequency of transactions between each other. The two big economic blocs of Daegu-Gyeongbuk and Busan-Gyeongnam exist, and interestingly, Ulsan, Gyeongju, and Pohang form a separate middle-sized bloc across the administrative boundaries. The results reveal that the future balanced national development policies should be implemented based on functional economic areas derived from empirical data.

Analysis on the Differences of Point of View between Architect and Urban Planner on the Evaluation of International Urban Design Competition (국제설계경기 평가에서 건축가와 도시계획가의 관점차이 분석)

  • During the development process of mega-project, individual buildings including skyscrapers are built following the master plan. It is not a difficult thing to see the gap of standpoint between the urban planners and architects on the project. This study aims to analyze the difference between architect and urban planner's point of view in evaluating international design competition works which the internationally distinguished honorable design companies(SOM, Jerde Partnership, Studio Daniel Libeskind, Foster+Partners and Asymptote Architecture) submitted as the ideas of Yongsan International Business District Design. Furthermore, we made an attempt to quantify the weight of each factors of urban design by each group. Architect and urban planner's viewpoint were revealed with seven architects and seven urban planners evaluating the international design competition works through AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process). AHP structure was made of two step hierarchy in terms of Master Plan and Landmark Tower. Eight evaluation criteria were set up such as the concept, land use, transportation, feasibility of Master Plan and the concept, location, functional efficiency and aesthetic beauty of Landmark Tower. Results show that Architect have different point of view from that of urban planner. While the architect's weight of evaluation criteria is on the Landmark Tower(0.505), urban planner's weight is on Master Plan(0.642). Feasibility, the location of Landmark Tower and land-use are very important evaluation criteria to architect and urban planner in common. Functional efficiency of Landmark Tower is in architect's favour and transportation is in urban planner.

Prevalence, Associated Risk Factors, and Phylogenetic Analysis of Toxocara vitulorum Infection in Yaks on the Qinghai Tibetan Plateau, China

  • Toxocara vitulorum has been rarely reported in yaks at high altitudes and remote areas of Sichuan Province of Tibetan Plateau of China. The current study was designed to investigate the prevalence, associated risk factors, and phylogenetic characteristics of T. vitulorum in yak calves on the Qinghai Tibetan plateau. Fecal samples were collected from 891 yak calves and were examined for the presence of T. vitulorum eggs by the McMaster technique. A multivariable logistic regression model was employed to explore variables potentially associated with exposure to T. vitulorum infection. T. vitulorum specimens were collected from the feces of yaks in Hongyuan of Sichuan Province, China. DNA was extracted from ascaris. After PCR amplification, the sequencing of ND1 gene was carried out and phylogenetic analyses was performed by MEGA 6.0 software. The results showed that 64 (20.1%; 95% CI 15.8-24.9%), 75 (17.2; 13.8-21.1), 29 (40.9; 29.3-53.2), and 5 (7.6; 2.5-16.8) yak calves were detected out to excrete T. vitulorum eggs in yak calve feces in Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan, and Gansu, respectively. The present study revealed that high infection and mortality by T. vitulorum is wildly spread on the Qinghai Tibetan plateau, China by fecal examination. Geographical origin, ages, and fecal consistencies are the risk factors associated with T. vitulorum prevalence by logistic regression analysis. Molecular detection and phylogenetic analysis of ND1 gene of T. vitulorum indicated that T. vitulorum in the yak calves on the Qinghai Tibetan plateau are homologous to preveiously studies reported.

The Sociocultural Codes for Interpreting Racism in Puerto Rico (푸에르토리코의 인종주의를 읽는 세 가지 사회문화적 코드)

  • This study examines the sociocultural background of negritude by delving into Caseríos, Reggaeton, and $Trigue{\tilde{n}}os$, which are interrelated with the racism deeply embedded in Puerto Rican society. These terms have also been discussed in relation to the ideological discourse of racial democracy, which has caused Puerto Rican people to be blind to silenced inequality and hegemonic racial policies. Caseríos, housing projects for the poor urban class, are targeted by the state - sponsored project 'Mano Dura'. Due to the policing, control and surveillance of this anticrime project, Caseríos became perceived even more as residential communities of violence, poverty, and insecurity generally connected to the stigmatization of blackness. Reggaeton emerged as a mega hit genre of transnational Puerto Rican music in the 2000s, which in turn, drew attention to both the afrodiaspora in New York and the urban musical power in the Island. This musical genre serves to highlight the meaningfulness of black heritage in the national cultural identity of Puerto Rico. $Trigue{\tilde{n}}idad$ has recently become a common racial cultural term that embraces a broader racial paradigm of mestizaje. This term can function as an alternative concept of blackness, but it has not yet been transformed into enough cultural politics to resist ongoing racial democracy. The three terms intrinsically address both the uprooted racism and potential methods of challenging it. This paper argues the necessity of stronger and more responsive cultural politics to defy the pervasiveness and invisibility of racial discrimination in Puerto Rico.
