  • MPEG-I Visual group is actively working on enhancing immersive experiences with up to six degree of freedom (6DoF). In virtual space of omnidirectional 6DoF, which is defined as a case of degree of freedom providing 6DoF in a restricted area, looking at the scene from another viewpoint (another position in space) requires rendering additional viewpoints called virtual omnidirectional viewpoints. This paper presents the performance analysis on view synthesis, which is done as the exploration experiment (EE) in MPEG-I, from a set of 360 videos providing omnidirectional 6DoF in various ways with different distances, directions, and number of input views. In addition, we compared the subjective quality between synthesized images with one input view and two input views.

  • Recently, as the demand for immersive videos increases, efficient video processing techniques for omnidirectional immersive video is actively developed by MPEG-I. While the omnidirectional video provides a larger degree of freedom for a free viewpoint, the size of the video increases significantly. Furthermore, in order to compress 6 degree-of-freedom (6 DoF) videos that support motion parallax, it is required to develop a codec to yield better coding efficiency. In this paper, we develop a 6 DoF codec using Versatile Video Coding (VVC) as the next generation video coding standard. To the authors' best knowledge, this is the first VVC-based 6 DoF video codec toward the future ISO/IEC 23090 Part 7 (Metadata for Immersive Media (Video)) MPEG-I standardization. The experiments were conducted on the seven test video sequences specified in Common Test Condition (CTC) in two operation modes of TMIV (Test Model for Immersive Media) software. It is demonstrated that the proposed codec improves coding performance around 33.8% BD-rate reduction in the MIV (Metadata for Immersive Video) mode and 30.2% BD-rate reduction in the MIV view mode as compared to the state-of-the-art TMIV reference software. We also show the performance comparisons using Immersive Video PSNR (IV-PSNR) and Mean Structural Similarity (MSSIM).

  • One maglev vehicle is composed of 6 or 8 modules. Each module is composed of 4 staggered magnets attached to an aluminum bogie. In the view point of levitation control except propulsion-by LIM. 5 is the maximum degree of freedom to be controlled. But rolling control of the vhhicle depends on the bogie structure. We describe just anti-roll type bogie structure and 4 degree of freedom control is sufficient for levitation quality improvement. Multivariable pole-placement concept is used for controller design. Control experiment is performed on a specially designed test module as well as actual bogie system.

  • Many researchers have been investigating the design of multi-mode absorption vibration absorber for multi degree-of-freedom (DOF) system. The approach taken to this problem has been to find the optimized constants of stiffness and damping for the given set of single-DOF absorbers or single multi-DOF absorber attached to a multi degree-of-freedom system. This paper presents a novel geometrical and direct design theory of a 6 DOF vibration absorber via screw theory. Theoretical development is demonstrated by a practical example in which the diagonal stiffness matrix is synthesized using rectangular configuration of springs. The performance of this absorber is simulated by modal analysis.

  • A Force-refecting hand controller can provide the kinesthetic information obtained from a slave manipulator to the operator of a teleoperation system. This thesis presents the desgn and the analysis of a 6-degree-of-freedom force-reflecting hand controller using fivebar parallel mechanism. The goal of this thesis is to construct a superior hand controller that can provide large workspace and good force-reflecting ability. The forward kinematics of the fivebar paprallel mechanism has been calculated in real-time using three pin-joint sensors in addition to six actuator position sensors. A force decomposition approach is used to comput the Jacobin. To analyze the characteristics of the fivebar parallel mechanism, it has been compared with the other three parallel mechanisms in terms with workspace and manipulability measure. The force-reflecting hand controller using the fivebar parallel mechanism has been constructed and tested to verify the feasibility of the design concept.

  • Being carried out a number of studies for the resilient mounting system of automobile engine than that of the studies for marine engines, many research results for the case of the resilient mounting system of the automobile engine have applied in the analysis for the case of marine engine. However, the size and the power of automobile engines are not only relatively small but also their operating conditions are quite different form those of marine engines. For the analysis of the automobile engine Wavelet shrinkage, misfire condition and unload condition have not been considered. Accordingly , it is not desirable to apply the results obtained form the case of automobile engines to the case of marine engines. In this study , exciting and damping forces working on the marine engine are formulated mathematically in order to apply to the design of a resilient mounting system of engine effectively. futhermore, some mathematical formulation for the analysis of the transmissibility of multi-body system are proposed. A new computer program which is able to calculate the free vibration, the transmissibility and the forced vibration of a resilient mounting system has been developed, As an application of this developed computer program, the dynamic behavior of resilient system with an actual rubber spring for the case of 6-degree-of-freedom system and 36-degree-of-freedom system are evaluated quantitatively.

  • This paper presents the design concept, theoretical investigation, and fabrication of a six-degree of freedom (6-DOF) turbulent flow micro sensor utilizing the piezoresistive effect in silicon. Unlike other flow sensors, which typically measure just one component of wall shear stress, the proposed sensor can independently detect six components of force and moment on a test particle in a turbulent flow. By combining conventional and four-terminal piezoresistors in Si (111), and arranging them suitably on the sensing area, the total number of piezoresistors used in this sensing chip is only eighteen, much fewer than the forty eight piezoresistors of the prior art piezoresistive 6-DOF force sensor.

  • This paper presents a double excited three degree-of-freedom (3DOF) motor. The proposed 3DOF motor is designed with a laminated structure, making it easy to manufacture. In addition, it has windings on the stator and rotor, and does not require an expensive permanent magnet. We explain the structure, principle of motion, and design of the proposed motor, and perform an analysis of the static characteristics using the two- and three-dimensional finite element methods (3D FEM). The feasibility of 3D FEM analysis is confirmed by comparing the 3D FEM analysis and experimental results for the rolling and pitching motion. We also confirm the occurrence of holding torque in every motion.
