Anti-angiogenesis and anti-cell adhesion effects were investigated with different dose of Camellia japonica leaf (CJL) extract for applying anti-cancer, anti-metastasis and anti-obesity. Cytotoxicity on HUVECs was very low at 200 ug/mL of CJL-extract. Anti-angiogenic ratio at increasing dose of 1.5 ug/mL, 3.0 ug/mL, 15 ug/mL and 30 ug/mL was showed 30.7%, 38.5%, 53.8%, and 70.0%, respectively. Also, anti-cell adhesion effect at concentration of $50{\mu}g{/well},\;100{\mu}g{/well}\;and\;200{\mu}g{/well}$ was expressed on E-selectin by 46.7%, 66.7%, and 86.76%, on VCAM-1, 23.0%, 61.5%, and 84.6%, and on ICAM-1, 11%, 55.5%, and 88.8%, respectively. For inquiring anti-angiogenesis mechanism, when western blot was performed with different dose of CJL extract, signal molecules of VEGFR-2, $\beta$-catenin and PI3-K were suppressed. As the signal transduction from VEGFR-2, $\beta$-catenin and PI3-K to NF-${\kappa}$B was interupted, angiogenesis could not be occurred causing not activated NF-kB. C. japonica leaf (CJL) is a useful herb for developing therapeutics of angiogenesis related diseases such as cancer, metastasis, rheumathioid arthritis and obesity.
Cytosine deaminase was partialy purified about 10 fold from the ceil-free extract of Aspergillus fumigatus. The partialy purified enzyme was relatively stable in a pH 5.5 to 8.0, but thermo-unstable. The enzyme activity was found in a pH optimum of 7.0 and temperature optimum of 30 to 35$^{\circ}C$. The activation energy calculated to be 13,240 cal/mol. The apparent Michaelis constants Km for cytosine was found to be 1.53 mM and the molecular weight was determined to be approximately 32,000. The enzyme was strongly inhibited by 0.1 mM of Hg$^^{2+}$, Pb$^{2+}$, Cd$^{2+}$ and Fe$^{2+}$, furthermore inhibited by 1mM of ATP, UTP, o-phenanthroline and p-chloromercuribenzoate.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is widely used as a dietary condiment throughout the world. Its major constituent, 6-gingerol, exhibits diverse pharmacological activities including anti-oxidant and anti-tumor. Ginger were extracted by 0% to 95% ethanol. Maximum yield of 6-gingerol was obtained with 80% ethanol as extracting solvent at $30^{\circ}C$. We obtained increased yield (7%) of extraction by pretreatment with ultrasonication. Gingerols in the crude ginger extract was isolated by Sepacore preparative liquid chromatography on silica gel. We got the 6-gingerol which weight is 0.53 mg/mL, from fraction F9. Antioxidant effect of 6-gingerol were detected by DPPH moth(10. Its radical scavenging activity was $95{\sim}99%$ which compared with ascorbic acid.
The following results were obtained from the experiment on the oyster spatfall, Crassostrea gigas by means of the rack method in YonghoBay, on the southern coast of Korea, from June to August in 1962 and 1963. 1. The Outside of shells as a collector showed better result than inside in numbers of attached oyster spats. 2. The horizontal type of the rack was more efficient for spatfall than the typical type of the rack. 3. The mode variance, in shell height, were shown as 21-25mm and 26-30mm, and the variance of range was 13.0-53.0mm for 77 days. 4. The optimum spat-fall season was from August 17 to 19 and 24 to 27, and spat of the oyster were attached in number of 7 per collector each day. 5. The optimum exposure time in spatfall was 4 hours. 6, The average water temperature and specific gravity, during the spawning season, was $25.98^{\circ}C$ and 0.1871, respectively.
Blister blight was occurred on tea (Thea sinensis) in a farmer's tea garden located in Sicheon-myon, Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam province, Korea. The typical symptoms of the disease were appeared on the leaves and bud. The early symptom were started with small yellowish spots then infected area became upheave and covered with white blister which the hymenium de.veloped from under neath of epidermis. Generally, the infected leaves and buds were appeared like rice cake. Colonies formed on PDA were developed white, later turned milk white. Basidia were 2 sterigma, and 30${\sim}$53 ${\times}$ 3.1${\sim}$5.8 ${\mu}m$ in size. Basidiospores were ellipsoid curved, coloriess, 1-celled and 11${\sim}$14.7 ${\times}$ 4${\sim}$5.4 ${\mu}m$ in size. The optimum temperature for growth of the fungus was about $25^{\circ}C$ on PDA and PSA. This is the first report on the blister blight of tea caused by Exobasidium vexans in Korea.
A Lucas cell was established and calibrated by using the double layer tube standard radon source. The calibration factors were 0.031$\pm$0.002 (pCi/l)/(cph/Cell) at room temperature, and 0.029$\pm$0.001 (pCi/l)/(cph/Cell) at $50^{\circ}C$. Radon and its daughters concentrations were measured in a room air for the demonstrating purpose. The concentrations of 222 Rn, $^{218}Po,\;224\;Pb,\;and\;^{214}Bi$ were 0.87, 0.53, 0.35 and 0.26 pCi/l. The total eqilibrium factor was around 0.40 and the WL is $3.33{\times}10^{-3}$, resulting in 30 mrem/yr at this place.
In this study, polyurethane prepolymers were synthesized from polycaprolactonediol (PCDs. M.W. 530, 830, 1000, 1250, and 2000) and polycaprolactonetriol (PCTs. M.W. 300 and 900), and hexamethylenediisocyanate (HMDI). Polyurethane beads was prepared from the different prepolymers by a two-step suspension polymerization. The particle size of polyurethane beads was investigated by particle size analyzer. The beads were $10{\sim}30{\mu}m$ in size. The structure of beads was confirmed by FT-IR spectrometer. Their thermal properties were analyzed by TGA. Glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) of the beads were in the range of $-23{\sim}-53^{\circ}C$ and decreased with the increase of the PCD molecular weight. In order to prevention the cohesion of beads, the beads were coated with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS).
The purpose of study intends to investigate effects of repetitive work and workload for body while wearing firefighting protective clothing in hot conditions and to provide the basic data for the safety of firefighter. The experimental temperature is WBGT $30^{\circ}C$ and the work intensity is 3, 9 METs. The experiment is processed 15 minutes (Ex1), 15 minutes rest (Rest), 15 minutes (Ex2) in order of time. A comparative experiment was carried out for firefighting school students(9 persons; $24.3{\pm}0.71$ years old) wearing firefighting protective clothing. When workload is increased from 3 METs to 9 METs, mean skin temperature change (33.3%), tympanic temperature change (242.9%), heart rate (36.2%), respiration rate (53.9%), RPE (81.6%), thermal Sensation (20.8%), weight loss (60.0%), glucose (-4.4%), lactate (41.7%) are statistically significantly higher. As a result, it is considered that repetitive work and workload have a strong effect on the body when wearing firefighting protective clothing in hot conditions.
By using a liquid-mix precursor, we prepared the hollow glass spheres(HGS) as an additive of polymer compound which are used in the field of modifier, promoter, filler, and reinforcement. Liquid-mix precursor is a mixture of 40% sodium silicate aqueous solution, boric acid as a insolubilizing agent, and urea as a blowing agent. To obtain the precursor particles which are fed into a gas flame furnae, the above liquid-mix precursor was dried in oven and crushed with ball mill. We assumed the size of precursor particles ($53{\sim}63{\mu}m$, $63{\sim}180{\mu}m$), temperature of furnace($800{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$), and amount of urea(0~30 g) as the parameters affecting on the properties of HGS. As a result mean particle size of HGS increases with increasing the temperature of furnace and the amount of urea and with decreasing the size of precursor particles. Also, we found that incresing the amount of urea is related to a decrease of the crush strength of HGS.
