  • This paper describes a study on dynamic characteristics analysis and dynamic compliance evaluation of a 5-axis multi-tasking machine tool of ram-head type. Structural dynamics analysis and evaluation are necessary to machine tool design and development to secure good machine tool performance against tough and harsh machining conditions. In this study, natural frequencies and corresponding vibration modes of the machine tool structure were analyzed by using both F.E.M. modal analysis and impulse hammer test. Furthermore, dynamic compliance of the machine tool was analyzed by using F.E.M. and also measured by using a hydraulic exciter test. Both the theoretical analysis and experimental test results showed good agreement with each other.

  • Fabrication methods are shown to produce slender and cylindrical tungsten shafts by electrochemical etching. The shape of microshatf formed by electrochemical etching is determined by the combination of two conflicting factors, i.e., initial shape and diffusion layer. We can obtain a desirable shaft profile by adjusting the thickness gradient of diffusion layer. The diameter of microshaft is controlled by mathematical model based on relation between process parameters and diameter.

  • Tungsten carbide microshaft can be used as various micro-tools for MEMS because it has high hardness and high rigidity. In this study, experiments are performed to produce tungsten carbide micro-shaft using electrochemical etching. H$_2$SO$_4$ solution is used as electrolyte because it can dissolve tungsten and cobalt simultaneously. Optimal electrolyte concentration and machining voltage satisfying uniform shape, good surface quality, and high MRR of workpiece are experimentally found. By controlling the various machining parameters, a straight micro-shaft with 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter, 3 mm length, and 0.2$^{\circ}$taper angle was obtained.

  • This paper suggests a way to improve the strength of the driveshaft, which is a vulnerable part of the drive axle system, for a 3.5-ton commercial vehicle. The driveshaft is composed of a universal joint with a spider and yoke, yoke shaft, etc. The driveshaft is developed by choosing design parameters for the spider and yoke such as the diameter and distance through the structural analysis of the driveshaft's components. Some driveshaft design cases have been made and analyzed with ANSYS; the strength of the driveshaft parts are validated from these results to propose an optimal design case. Finally, we suggest a driveshaft system that satisfies the working conditions for a 3.5-ton commercial vehicle.

  • A composite honeycomb core is widely used for lightweight aircraft materials. However, the composite honeycomb core coupled with metal-cutting machining processes does not make a very good match. This paper describes an experimental study of the shape-machining characteristics of a composite honeycomb core, in which a five-axis gantry machine is used. The experimental conditions of the offset allowance, tooling condition and feed rate were applied. The shape machining characteristics of a flat surface, a vertical surface, and a concave surface are evaluated by comparing the machining shape and burr characteristics.

  • For developing 5-axis laser cutting systems, many problems such as rotating of laser head or table, 5-axis tool path generation and collision avoidance between laser head and product should be solved. In this paper, a five-axis laser cutting machine with table swivel and rotary type configuration is developed. The five axes (X,Y,Z,A,B) are controlled and interfaced to PC via MMC board. Two kinds of CAM S/W such as commercial 5-axis CAM S/W(Euclid) and UG-API are engaged to generate NC code for the developed 5-axis laser cutting machine.

동해안 까나리를 이용한 속성 어간장의 이화학적 특성

  • 까나리는 우리나라 동ㆍ서ㆍ남해 연안 및 일본, 알라스타 연안에 널리 분포하고 있으며 동해안에는 강원지역인 대진, 속초, 주문진, 동해, 임원 등에서 10-12월에 자망으로 일시에 대량 어획되고 있다. 서해안에는 4-6월에 낭장망에 의해 대량 어획되는 까나리가 액젓으로 가공되고 있으며, 4-5년 전부터 중소기업이 중심이 되어 액젓시장에 참여하고 있다. 하지만 동해안 까나리에 대하여서는 식품학적 가치가 개발되지 않아 선어의 일부분은 소건품으로 가공되어 식용되고. 나머지는 거의 대부분이 넙치 축양장 등의 양어 사료로 이용되고 있다.   • Recently, the development of aerospace and automobile industries brought new technological challenges, related to the growing complexity of products and new geometry models. High speed machining using 5-Axis milling machine is widely used for 3D sculptured surface parts. 5-axis milling of turbine blade generates the vibration, deflection and twisting caused from thin and cantilever shape. So, the surface roughness and the waviness of workpiece are not good. In this paper, The effects of cutter orientation and lead/tilt angle in 5-Axis high speed ball end-milling of turbine blade were investigated to improve the geometric accuracy and surface integrity. The experiments were performed at lead/tilt angle $15^{\circ}$ of workpiece with four cutter directions such as horizontal outward, horizontal inward, vertical outward, and vertical inward. Workpiece deflection, surface roughness and machined surface were measured with various cutter orientations such as cutting direction, and lead/tilt angle. The results show that when 5-axis machining of turbine blade, the best cutting strategy is horizontal inward direction with tilt angle.   • For the machining of the sculptured surfaces on 5-axis CNC milling machine, the milling cutter direction vector was determined in the study (I) with 5-axis post-processing. Thus, it was possible to cut the sculptured surfaces on five-axis CNC milling machine with the end mill cutter. Then, for smooth machined surfaces in five-axis machining of free-from surfaces, this study develops an algorithm for prediction of cusp heights. Also, it generates tool path such that the cusp heights are constrained to a constant value or under a certain value. For prediction of the cusp height between two basis points, a common plane, containing the line crossing two basis points and the summation vector of two normal vectors at two basis points, is defined. The cusp height is the maximum value of scallops on the common plane after end mill cutter passes through the common plane. Sculptured surfaces were machined with CINCINNATI MILACRON 5-axis machining center, model 20V-80, using end mill cutter. Cusp heights were verified by 3-dimensional measuring machine with laser scanner, WEGU Messtechnik GmbH.

  • The development of high-speed spindle have been studied extensively for micro machining in advanced industrial countries. The research of miniaturized high-speed air spindle is important part which needs for the micro machining process of high quality. So, This study was to carry out results about design characteristics of miniaturized high-speed air spindle. We had designed 4type turbines and shaft. They were simulated in use the computer simulation programs. We made them as products. They measured RPM (revolutions per minute). As a result of experiments, there was a contrast among 4type Turbines. it reached 384,000rpm in 4.5bar of air pressure. And, We tried to compare the results of measurement whit the results of computer simulation.
