  • This study proposes a mobile Augmented Reality (AR)-based "word card" learning tool for children aged 3 to 5. First, this study suggests a learning structure to improve motivation and immersion of learning, Secondly, it designs and implements the user interface applying the proposed learning structure. Also, it designs a content management tool supporting the production of the content so that instructors can easily manage the contents for various learners. This study is conducted by four steps - reference research, design of "word card" learning content for the learner, design of content management tool for the instructor and the effectiveness verification of the proposed content. The proposed content was designed based on an education content architecture for enhancement of immersion and motivation to study. Moreover, it includes an 'AR content management tool for instructor' designed to easily update AR education content. The class for six children aged 3 to 5 was given to validate the enhancement of immersion to study. Experiment results showed that the proposed content enhanced the study immersion and that special interaction design for early children was necessary.

  • Purpose : This study was performed to determine the developmental expression pattern of nerve growth factor(NGF) in the urine of healthy children. It was hypothesized that NGF may contribute to the development of the spinobulbospinal micturition reflex that represents the adult micturition pattern. Methods : Voided urine was collected in 60 healthy children during the first 5 years of life(0-1 month, n=10; 1 month-1 year, n=10; 2 years, n=10; 3 years, n=10; 4 years, n=10). The urinary NGF was analyzed by using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results were normalized based on creatinine or total protein in urine. Results : NGF was significantly greater among neonates compared to other age groups(P<0.05). NGF levels declined during 1 month to 1 year and increased by age 2 years. NGF levels at age 3 years were less than in neonates examined. When comparing the NGF levels according to continence in children over 1 year old, NGF levels were significantly lower in children with continence than in children with incontinence(P<0.05). Conclusion : These data suggest that NGF is involved in the achievement of continence and in mechanisms of bladder nerve growth and in the reorganization of bladder reflex pathway.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine 4-5 year older's creative thinking and to investigate the interrelationship between young child's creative thinking and their mother's supportive child-rearing behavior. The subjects were 125 pairs of 4-5 year olders and their mothers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The Multidimensional Stimulus Fluency Measure(Van Hook & Tegano, 2002) was revised and used to measure children's creative thinking. For determining mother's supportive child-rearing behavior, the Child Rearing Behavior Observation Scale (Renshaw & Gardner, 1990) was revised and used. The major results were as follows: first, there is no significant difference between boys and girls, and between the 4 year-olders and 5 year-olders in the "child's creative thinking". Second, when mothers properly keep encouraging children's creative behavior in the course of performing their task, it can significantly effect on the development of their creative thinking.

  • Although listening to music is the most basic musical experience that is ahead of all the other musical activities, it tends to be neglected due to lack of awareness and difficult teaching methods. This study is to compose integrative music appreciation by reflecting thoughts of children, draw children's attention to listening to music, and let them to discover and create musical concept and structures by themselves, accompanied by related activities through which children can express their thoughts and feelings with children's poem. Considering the peculiarities of three-four year-olds, it may be difficult for them to create poems individually, so we let them to write poems through small group discussion in which they can share their opinions and observe their peers' reaction. We provided a teaching method to teachers who find activities of listening to music and writing poems difficult, then we analyzed the effect. When children finished writing poems in small groups through integrative music appreciation reflecting their thoughts, they placed greater weight on preparing to listen to music at first, but going through the program, they discovered musical concepts and became active in music appreciation. In the related activity, writing poems inspired them to think creatively, listening to their peer's stories. Even children who were not interested in children's poem showed higher participation. Teachers found children's creative words to be interesting, discovering the joy of creation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the home environment of young children on their language and the quality of peer competence. The current study hypothesized that when the home environment of young children is desirable, the young children would be more likely to develop better language skills, which in turn, predict greater peer competence and lower levels of aggression and withdrawal in the interaction with peers at child care settings. The study used data of 1,802 families who have been participating in the Korean Child Panel Study since 2008. The results revealed that there was a significant relation from both positive home environment and better language skills to more positive play interaction and reduced play disruption and play disconnection. Home environment significantly predicted better expressive language development of young children and, in turn, higher scores on expressive vocabulary tests predicted greater peer competence and less negative play behaviors rated by child care providers. Statistical tests proved that the mediational effects of language skills between home environment and toddler's peer relationships were statistically significant. The study results emphasized the importance of language development in children's expanding social settings and the supporting role of rich and stimulus home environments in children's development.

The subjects of the study were 251 five year old children enrolled in childcare programs located in Seoul & Gyeonggi-do, Korea, the methods for analyzing children's leadership were t-tests, a correlation analysis and the multiple regression analysis which was used to recognize what factor affected the leadership of young children the most. The result of this study was that there was a difference between the sub-factor and leadership of playfulness according to the gender and birth order of young children and whether their mother was working out or not. In other words, there was a difference in the leadership and temperament according to gender and birth order and whether their mother was working out or not. Secondly, there was partial correlation between the temperament of young children, playfulness, and leadership according to the testing of the low-level variable factor. Thirdly, the strongest predictor of children's leadership wad the social independence among playfulness.
