The structure-antifungal activity correlations between the structure of fourteen new 1-(phenoxymethyl)benzotriazoles (I) (Y=0), 1-(thiophenoxymethyl)benzotriazoles (ll) (Y=S) and 1-(azidomethyl)benzotriazole (III) derivatives were synthesized, and their activity, fifty percent inhibition of mycelial growth($pI_{50}$), in vitro against Pyricularia oryzae, Fusarium axysporum f.sp sesami, Valsa ceratosperma and Botrytis cinerea were investigated using a generalized QSAR method. The activity of (I) was superior In those of (II) and (III). The effect of the substituents (X) on the phenoxy group (I) was rationalized by a parabolic function of electronic (${\sigma}$), steric ($B_1$) and hydrophobic parameter(${\pi}$), and hydrogen bonding (HB). Where the optimal values of substituent on the fungicidal activity againt P. oryzae and F. axysporum f.sp.sesami are $B_1=1.40A;(H)$ and ${\pi}=0.07{\sim}0.15;(H)$, and those of substituent on the fungicidal activity against V. ceratosperma and B. cinerea are ${\sigma}=0.23{\sim}0.28;\;(C1),\;{\pi}=0.70;$ (C1), respectively. The most effective compound ( I a) and ( I d) were examined in this study.

Seed pelleting have successfully been used in many crops for better crop estab-lishment and for mechanizing seeding process for small crop seeds in developed countries. In this experiment various pelleting materials and binders were tested to get basic information on the shape, hardness and germination of pelleted seesds of cabbage (cv. Seoul Beachoo) and rice (cv: Ilpoom). PLL-11, paper clay, lime and coal ash were good materials to make smooth shape of the pellets with pel gel and AG-11 as binders, and PLL-ll as material and pelgel and AG-11 as binders were the best among them in consideration of shape and hardness together. The hardness of the pelleted seeds were differed with each other depending on both of the pelleting materials and binders. Pelleted cabbage seeds coated by pelgel as binder with different materials showed lower germination percentge than control in general, but the seeds pelleted by PLL-11 with different binders showed no restraint effects. When the cabbage seed pelleted by PLL-11 with pelgel as binder showed almost same germination percentage as control. The pH and electrical conductivity of the extract from bentonite and zeolite were very higher than other materials tested and germination percentage showed a little lower than control when the cab-bage seed planted on the filter paper damped with the extract. As a result, PLL-11 as pelleting material and pel gel and AG-11 as binder appeared the good materials to make pellets of cabbage seeds and rice in consideration of shape, hardness and germination.

Numerous investigators have conducted extensive investigation in the search for biological markers in psychiatric illness. There are, as a test of q biological approach to the diagnosis of the psychiatric illness, tests for the neurotransmitters, their metabolites, and related enzymes, the neurotransmitter receptors, the neuroendocrine output and response, the membrane transport, peptides and eletrolytes. They are called the biological markers, and they are helpful for the diagnosis or differential diagnosis, choice of treatment or drugs, symptom improvement, predictor of recurrence and anticipation of suicidal attempt. These studies are among the main purposes that are pursued in the neuroscience and based on the potential utility of the biological markers mentioned above. Since 1970's, lots 01 biological markers' studies for the diagnosis, differential diagnosis or subtypes differentiation have been done but varieties of different opinions have been drawn since then through they could explain the charaters of main psychiatric illness(especially schizophrenia and mood disorder). But, the search for biological markers, including displines of neuroendoclinology and neurochemistry(neurotransmitter and thair metabolite), has yielded a number of putative trait merkers and state markers for psychayric illness. This paper aims to anticipate or evaluate the good response to the therapy(Therpeutic response) with lots of markers. Acoording to the diagnosis of lots of diseases or subtypes, we are going to review the papers, mainly concern with 'Is there any Marker' or 'Is any test possible to detect the improvement clinically?' 'Is it possible to predict the recurrence or good prognsis?' or 'Is it possible to select any drug or therapy to bring the good response?' The biological tests to review are mainly the metabolites of catecholamine neurotransmitter, and especially neuroendocrine test based on the knowledge that hormons of the adenohypophysis are influenced by activity of the cerebral or limbic neurons as well as the hypothalamus ones. Among them, author introduced some clinically available tests that are DST, TRH stimulation test(TRHST), GH stimulation test, and the urine MHPG test that can give us the evaluation of the treatment response, the predictor for recurrence or choice of drug that can bring a good response. So author discussed thair potential utility in clarifying, therapeutic, and prognostic issues in psychatric illness. We hope they'll be used and look forward to more active study on the different opinion.

There is a original routine on dealing the first edition newspaper in Korea. Korean national morning newspapers print about 0.5% of total circulation as the first edition and sale those only in Seoul where the newspapers is published. The dead line of first edition is even about 5 pm. According to this routine which couldn't be found in the advanced western nations, like UK, USA etc., there can be some original characteristics and problems on the contents of Korean national morning newspapers. The present study investigated what the characteristics and problems means on the quality of newspaper and the free flow of diverse informations and opinions. Content analysis comparing the first edition to the last edition of 8 national morning newspapers is used to reveal the original characteristics and problems. Major findings in the result of the content analysis are three. First, the quality of the newspapers is damaged by the early dead line. Second, Inter-media agenda setting, which minor papers follow major papers on not only contents but also tone & manner, is manifest. Third, the early time publishing of the first edition allow the reported group including government and business sorter to take time to do make some negotiations on the articles about them, in which procedure even about 40% of total observed articles are changed(eg. removed, replaced, modified).

Cotton Glutathione S-Transferase (GST: EC 2.5.1.18) was cloned and overexpressed in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) plants. Northern blot analysis confirmed the successful transformation of cotton gst gene in tobacco plant. Type I and Type ll transcript patterns were identified in transgenic tobacco plants and only Type I transcripts were discussed in this paper, The activity of GST in the type II transgenic plants was about 1.5-fold higher than those of the wild type and non-expresser by using 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (CDNB) and reduced glutathione as the substrate. The expression of cotton GST in tobacco plants proved that Gh-5 could be translated into functional protein. Type II transgenic plants produced functional GST in the cells. The effects of cotton GST in the seedlings was evaluated by growing the control and transgenic seedlings at $15^{\circ}C$ in the growth chamber in the light. Overexpressors were grown well compared to the control plants (non-expressors). lo test far tolerance to salinity, seeds of Gh-5 overexpressors and the wild type Xanthi seedlings were grown at 0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 mM NaCl solution. Gh-5 transgenic seedlings showed higher growth rate over control seedlings on 50 and 100 mM NaCl solution. There was no difference in growth rate at 150 and 200mM NaCl concentration.

The purpose of this study was to identify the stressors and coping behaviors among the 5th 6th graders at Gwangju city. The subjects were 352 elementary school students and the data were collected by self-reported questionnaire from June 19 to July 21, 2003. Study instrument to investigate stressors was developed 40-items summated scale (${\alpha}$ = .87) with four subcategories: 8-items individualistic (${\alpha}$ = .72), ll-items family life-related (${\alpha}$= .70), 14-items school life-related (${\alpha}$= .76) and 7 socio-environmental (${\alpha}$= .63) factors. And the instrument to examine stress coping behaviors was also developed 30-items summated scale (${\alpha}$= .82) with three subcategories: 10-items active (${\alpha}$= .72), 10-passive (${\alpha}$= .75), and 10-mystic (${\alpha}$ = .70) coping behaviors. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA using SPSS/PC+ program. The results were summarized as follows: Mean score of stressors was $66.6{\pm}14.45$ out of 160. There were no significant differences in total scores of stressors in terms of gender, grade, number of siblings and the school location The score of individualistic stressors, on the other hand, was tended to be significant higher in the 6th graders (t = -2.155, p = .032) and the school children in Gwangsangu district where has mixed rural and urban characteristics (F = 2.400, p = .049). Mean score of stress coping behaviors was $61.3{\pm}12.24$ out of 120. It was significantly different in terms of number of siblings (t = 2.108, p = .036) and the school location (F = 4.928, p = .001). In several subcategories, the mean scores of active coping behaviors were significantly higher in the only children group (t = -2.127, p = .034) and Donggu district where traditional downtown area (F = 2.410, p = .050). and passive (F = 4.013, p = .003) and mystic coping (F = 2.720, p= .030) were also significantly higher in the same district. In conclusion, the score of stressors of children in Gwangju city showed relatively low as that of other areas, and the children utilized active coping behaviors more frequently in various stressful situations.

Seven lactic acid bacteria showing highly inhibitory activities against Salmonella gallinarum, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli were isolated from Korean native chickens. The inhibitory activities were insensitive to various pretenses indicating that the inhibitory substance is not proteinaceous. The culture broths seem to contain other inhibitory substances in addition to lactic acid. The metabolic profile of organic acids produced by Lactobacillus pentosus K34 was investigated by GC-MSD and 28 different organic acids were detected in the culture broth. Compared with the prominent lactic acid, acetic acid, formic acid, the thirdly most abundant phenyllactic acid showed high inhibitory activity against S. gallinarum. After pHs of the acids were adjusted to S, the inhibitory activities of lactic acid, acetic acid, formic acid against S. gallinarum were greatly reduced while the inhibitory activity of phenyllactic acid was unchanged. The inhibitory activity of the phenyllactic acid was specifically high against S. gallinarum and S. aureus but very low against yeast and mold.

The above study is based upon the Theory of Five Woon(Reasons) and Six Qi(Climates), namely Five dynamic Yin and Yang, the principle of five-six combination, the rules of ten periodically changing Woon and twelve periodically changing Qi, and its reference to the main chapters of the theory by several experts. After careful, comprehensive research and study, the followings are concluded. 1. The Theory of Five Woon and Six Qi controls all of the physical phenomena of the universe, yet it originates from Essence of the Sky that is replete and in constant motion within the abysmal expanse of the universe. So it is natural to claim that it is the Essence of the universe that is the source of the variety of phenomena in nature. 2. There is order of dynamics in the Essence and it is Yin Yang Five Movement and expressed by Five Woon and Six Qi. Therefore the Five Woon and Six Qi, which is the climatic changes of nature, is the basis and condition for all of the natural, physical occurrences including the organic phenomena of human beings. 3. Since the Sky embodied the number Five, and the Earth the number Six, Qi of the Sky itself is consequently Five Woon and Qi of the Earth itself is Six Qi. 4. In Sixty Repetition Intervals (Yuk Sip Kap Ja), the Sky took the number Six, designating the six times repetition of the ten Intervals of the Sky and the Earth chose the number Five, symbolizing five times recurrence of the twelve Intervals of the Earth. Though the number for the Sky is Five and the number for the Earth is Six, the two combine and interact in order for the Sky to exploit the number Six and for the Earth to use the number Five. This interplay implies the relationship of operation and principle of Yin in Yang and Yang in Yin. 5. There seems to be clear and intimate association between five dynamics, five bearings and five Qi' in nature and five organs, five stamina, and five emotions in physiological activities of human beings. Such an correlation apparently demonstrates the idea of climatic changes of the universe in balance among human beings, the Sky, and the Earth. 6. Because nature is of an endlessly dynamic organism itself, to have changes must mear there being movements. Thus the climatic changes in nature are the subsequent consummation of the interaction in mutual balance and unbalance of the rise and fall of the Five Woon and Six Qi. 7. The interpretation, by Chang Ji Chong of "Yin and Yang of the Sky are for birth and growth and Yin and Yang of the Earth for demise and interment" as an explanation that the first half is mainly for life and the second half for death, appears to be correct by his view that there is balance and harmony between the long and short and the strong and weak. 8. In addition to Three Yang and Three Yin, as attributes of the Intervals of the Sky and the twelve Intervals of the Earth, Five Woon and Six Qi are utilized in the annual observation of the perpetual changes of climates.

Objectives : We hypothesized that reinforcing-reducing manipulations produce different effects by quantity of stimulation, and examined whether the difference is statistically significant or not. Methods : The study was conducted to the students of College of Oriental Medicine, Dongguk University. We needled into $ST_{36}$ and applied 6 kinds of basic reinforcing-reducing manipulations in Huang di nei jing by randomized sequence. And we had the students to fill up the questionnaire in form of visual analog scale(VAS). We examined whether significant differences in VAS existed between reinforcing-reducing manipulations(by t-test). And we examined whether significant differences in VDRRT(VAS difference between reinforcing-reducing technique) values existed along the gender, body mass index(BMI), age(by t-test), and psychological sensitivity(by ANOVA). Results : 1. The total stimulation quantity from reducing technique was significantly higher than that from reinforcing technique. Individually VAS values of reducing techniques were significantly higher in rotation, slow-rapid, lift-thrust, respiration and open-close manipulation. 2. The highest stimulation quantity was from rotation manipulation. And the highest VDRRT value was from slow-rapid manipulation. 3. When VDRRT values were analyzed by gender, age, BMI, and psychological sensitivity, VDRRT was significantly different by BMI in rotation manipulation, and by psychological sensitivity in rotation, lift-thrust, and slow-rapid manipulation. Conclusions : We could verify that reinforcing-reducing techniques induce different therapeutic effects by different quantities of stimulations. It suggests that reinforcing-reducing techniques could be applied universally, regardless of gender or age. Further studies are needed to consider control group, or patient groups in characteristic conditions.

This study has been carried out to investigate the cause, pathological mechanism and treatment of symptoms regarded as the ischemic heart disease in Nei-jing(內經). I've got the following conclusions. 1. From the side of xing-bi(胸痺), the ischemic heart disease(IHD) was caused by that the energy in one's heart wasn't extended in the way of Yin-xie(飮邪), namely waste matter of human body and symptoms and treatment wern't written. 2. From the side of xin-bi (心痺), HID was catched by the mechanisms that the blood vessel is blocked. or the heart's blood was deficient owing to the mutation of mo-bi(脈痺), the lack of yang-ming(陽明) and excessive thoughts and worry and others. The symptoms were feeling oppressed in one's brest, palpitating, sudden dyspnea, the dryness of thorat, frequent belching and the fear by the inverse flow of the energy(氣). The treatment was that the yin(陰) was cured immediately, but the yang(陽) mustn't be attacked. 3. From the side of xing-tong(心痛), IHD was suffered from by mechanisms that following the han-sa(寒邪), namely the cold makes a invasion on humanbody, the vessel was blocked, spasm, filled and the amount of blood flow was poor, or caused by injury of vessel, the inverse flow and the disease of shi-dong(是動病) of shou-shao-xin-jing(手少陰心經) and so on. The pain was cramped into the upper and lower back or lower abdomen or throat and accompanied with nausea, abdominal dropsy, constipation, the impending of breathing and so on. The cure was mainly that acupuncture was applied at the jin-su(筋縮) region or meridian in relation to symptoms, but if the pain were severe, acupuncture mustn't be applied. The prog nosis was worse. 4. From the side of xing-tonge(心痛), IHD was divided into zhen-xing-tong(眞心痛) and jue-xing-tong(厥心痛), but pi-xiog-tong(脾心痛) and wei-xing-tong(胃心痛) out of jue-xing-tong(厥心痛) also included the symptoms of the digestive disease.
