The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different washing solvents and washing methods on the flexural strength of 3D printed temporary resin. A bar(25 × 2 × 2 mm) was produced with a layer thickness of 50 ㎛ using an LCD-type 3D printer and divided into 15 groups(n = 10, each) according to washing solution(IPA; 99% isopropyl alcohol, TPM; 93% Tripropylene glycol monomethylether, ETL; Ethanol, TWC; Twin 3D Cleaner, and DNC; DIO navi Cleaner) and washing method(Dip; Dip washing, Ultra; Ultrasonic washing, and Auto; Automated washing). All groups were washed for 5 minutes, and post-cured for 5 minutes using a UV LED light curing machine. The Flexural strength was measured using a three-point bending test using a universal testing machine. For statistical analysis, one-way ANOVA, Tukey HSD post hoc test, Kruskal-Wallis test and post-hoc by Bonferroni-Dunn test(𝛼=.05) were performed depending on whether the normality test was satisfied. In all washing solvents except TPM and DNC, the Dip group showed the lowest flexural strength values, while the Auto group showed the highest flexural strength values except for DNC. Additionally, the washing solution showed completely different flexural strength values depending on the washing method.
PURPOSE. This study aimed to fabricate provisional crowns at varying build directions using the digital light processing (DLP)-based 3D printing and evaluate the marginal and internal fit of the provisional crowns using the silicone replica technique (SRT). MATERIALS AND METHODS. The prepared resin tooth was scanned and a single crown was designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Provisional crowns were printed using a DLP-based 3D printer at 6 directions (120°, 135°, 150°, 180°, 210°, 225°) with 10 crowns in each direction. In total, sixty crowns were printed. To measure the marginal and internal fit, a silicone replica was fabricated and the thickness of the silicone impression material was measured using a digital microscope. Sixteen reference points were set and divided into the following 4 groups: marginal gap (MG), cervical gap (CG), axial gap (AG), and occlusal gap (OG). The measurements were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Dunnett T3. RESULTS. MG, CG, and OG were significantly different by build angle groups (P<.05). The MG and CG were significantly larger in the 120° group than in other groups. OG was the smallest in the 150° and 180° and the largest in the 120° and 135° groups. CONCLUSION. The marginal and internal fit of the 3D-printed provisional crowns can vary depending on the build angle and the best fit was achieved with build angles of 150° and 180°.
This research presents tetrahedral amorphous (ta-C) coating on the artificial tooth for improving the durability and functionality (esthtics, foreign body of tooth) by filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA). A differentiated coating method is required for a ta-C coating on polymer owing to the low melting point of the polymer, inter-facial adhesion, low friction, and non-conductivity. Herein, ta-C coating is applied below 50℃, and the potential difference of the carbon plasma drawn to the substrate was controlled by applying a positive duct bias voltage without using a substrate bias voltage. Consequently, the ta-C coating with a thickness of 70nm using the duct bias condition of 20V with the highest plasma intensity satisfies the esthetics of the artificial tooth and had a 5B level of inter-facial adhesion. In addition, the composite hardness of ta-C/polymer is 380 MPa, and correlations with esthetics, sp3 bonding, and mechanical properties. The friction coefficient (CoF) of the ta-C coating in a water-lubricated environment is 0.07, showing a six-fold reduction in CoF compared with that of a polymer.
$BaTiO_3$(BT) has high permittivity so that has been applied to dielectric and insulator materials in 3D system-level package integration. In order to achieve excellent performance of device, the BT layer should be highly dense. In this study, BT thick films were prepared by the inkjet printing method. And these films were cured at $280^{\circ}C$ after infiltration of polymer resin. As a result, we have successfully fabricated not only the inkjet-printed hybrid BT film but also metal-insulator-metal(MIM) capacitor without sintering process. Changes in the dielectric constant of BT hybrid film with particle size and packing density were investigated. The dielectric constant was increased with increasing packing density and particle size. Further, the BT hybrid film using two different size particles had even higher packing density and dielectric constant.
This study experimentally investigates hydrophobic surfaces fabricated via additive manufacturing. Additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, is the process of joining materials to fabricate parts from 3D model data, usually in a layer-upon-layer manner. Digital light processing is used to fabricate hydrophobic surfaces in this study. This method uses photo-curable resins and ultraviolet (UV) sources. Moreover, this technique generally has faster shaping speeds and is advantageous for the fabrication of small components because it enables the fabrication of one layer at a time. Two photo-curable resins with different compositions are used to fabricate micro-patterns of hydrophobic surfaces. The resins are composed of a photo-initiator, monomer, and oligomer. Experiments are conducted to determine suitable process conditions for the fabrication of hydrophobic surfaces depending on the type of resin. The most important factors affecting the process conditions are the UV exposure time and slice thickness. The fabrication capability according to the process conditions is evaluated using the side and top views of the micro-patterns observed using a microscope. The micro-patterns are collapsed and intertwined when the exposure time is short because sufficient light (heat) is not applied to cure the photo-curable resin with a given slice thickness. On the other hand, the micro-patterns are attached to each other when the exposure time is prolonged because the over-curing time can cure the periphery of a given shape. When the slice is thicker, the additional curing area is enlarged in each slice owing to the straightness of UV light, and the slice surface becomes rough.

Objective : Recently, three-dimensional (3D) printed models of the intracranial vascular have served as useful tools in simulation and training for cerebral aneurysm clipping surgery. Precise and realistic 3D printed aneurysm models may improve patients' understanding of the 3D cerebral aneurysm structure. Therefore, we created patient-specific 3D printed aneurysm models as an educational and clinical tool for patients undergoing aneurysm clipping surgery. Herein, we describe how these 3D models can be created and the effects of applying them for patient education purpose. Methods : Twenty patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm were randomly divided into two groups. We explained and received informed consent from patients in whom 3D printed models-(group I) or computed tomography angiography-(group II) was used to explain aneurysm clipping surgery. The 3D printed intracranial aneurysm models were created based on time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography using a 3D printer with acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin as the model material. After describing the model to the patients, they completed a questionnaire about their understanding and satisfaction with aneurysm clipping surgery. Results : The 3D printed models were successfully made, and they precisely replicated the actual intracranial aneurysm structure of the corresponding patients. The use of the 3D model was associated with a higher understanding and satisfaction of preoperative patient education and consultation. On a 5-point Likert scale, the average level of understanding was scored as 4.7 (range, 3.0-5.0) in group I. In group II, the average response was 2.5 (range, 2.0-3.0). Conclusion : The 3D printed models were accurate and useful for understanding the intracranial aneurysm structure. In this study, 3D printed intracranial aneurysm models were proven to be helpful in preoperative patient consultation.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the flexural strength of provisional fixed dental prostheses which was three-dimensional (3D) printed by several build directions. Materials and Methods: A metal jig with two abutment teeth and pontic space in the middle was fabricated. This jig was scanned with a desktop scanner and provisional restoration was designed on dental computer-aided design program. On the preprocessing software, the build angles of the restorations were arranged at $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ and support was added and resultant structure was sliced to a thickness of $100{\mu}m$. Processed restorations were printed with digital light processing type 3D printer using poly methyl meta acrylate-based resin. After washing and post-curing, compressive loading was applied at a speed of 1 mm/min on a metal jig fixed to a universal testing machine. The maximum pressure at which fracture occurred was measured. For the statistical analysis, build direction was set as the independent variable and fracture strength as the dependent variable. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey's post hoc analysis was conducted to compare fracture strength among groups (${\alpha}=0.05$). Result: The mean flexural strength of provisional restoration 3D printed with the build direction of $0^{\circ}$ was $1,053{\pm}168N$; it was $1,183{\pm}188N$ at $30^{\circ}$, $1,178{\pm}81N$ at $45^{\circ}$, $1,166{\pm}133N$ at $60^{\circ}$, and $949{\pm}170N$ at $90^{\circ}$. The group with a build direction of $90^{\circ}$ showed significantly lower flexural strength than other groups (P<0.05). The flexural strength was significantly higher when the build direction was $30^{\circ}$ than when it was $90^{\circ}$ (P<0.01). Conclusion: Among the build directions $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ set for 3D printing of fixed dental prosthesis, an orientation of $30^{\circ}$ is recommended as an effective build direction for 3D printing.
Composites based on engineering thermoplastics exhibit excellent mechanical and thermal properties and simple processing and reprocessing attributes, and are widely used in the aerospace, three-dimensional (3D) printing, and automobile industries. Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is one of the most desirable engineering thermoplastics, owing to its superior thermal performance, inherent flame retardancy resulting from the presence of sulfur in its backbone structure, chemical resistance, and satisfactory electrical properties. However, pure PPS resin has limited applicability owing to its brittleness. To compensate for these shortcomings, various filler materials are frequently used in the manufacture of PPS composites. In this review, we would like to present the correlation between the structure and physical properties of PPS composite materials using various fillers.
In the last decade, there has been an exponential increase of scientific interest in smart additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Among the different AM techniques, one of the most commonly applied processes is digital light processing (DLP). DLP uses a digital projector screen to flash an ultraviolet light which cures photopolymer resins. The resin is cured to form a solid to produce parts with precise high dimensional accuracy. During the curing process, there are several process parameters that need to be optimized. Among these, the exposure time affects the quality of the 3D printed specimen such as mechanical strength and dimensional accuracy. This study examines optimal exposure times and their impact on printed part. It was found that there is optimal exposure time for printed part to have appropriate mechanical strength and accurate dimensions. The gel fraction and TGA test results confirmed that the improvement of mechanical properties with the increasing UV exposure time was due to the increase of crosslinked network formation with UV exposure time in acrylic resins. In addition, gel fraction and thermogravimetric analysis were employed to microscopically investigate how this process parameter impacts mechanical performance.
Purpose: This study is a comparative analysis of the strain according to deposition in a constant temperature water bath after manufacturing ultraviolet (UV)-cured artificial teeth. Methods: As a control group, 10 ready-made artificial teeth were selected as the first molar on the right side of the maxilla (RT group). Silicone was used as a duplicate of the artificial denture teeth. Experimental teeth were prepared in two groups using the prepared silicone mold. In the first experimental group, the UV-cured resin was injected into the negative silicone, followed by irradiation with a UV-curing machine for 5 minutes (5M group). In the second experimental group, the UV-cured resin was injected into the negative silicone, and then irradiated for 30 minutes using a UV-curing machine (30M group). The one-way ANOVA was performed, and post-test was analyzed by Tukey. Results: When immersed in a water bath for 15 days, it was found to be -0.3% in the RT group, -0.6% in the 5M group, and -0.7% in the 30M group. The results revealed -0.2% in the RT group, 0.2% in the 5M group, and -0.2% in the 30M group when they were in the bath for 30 days. Conclusion: In the water bath, the swelling was greater when deposited for 1 to 15 days, but was less when deposited for 15 to 30 days.
