When objects are scanned spatially by a laser-beam and mechanical mirror scanners, spatial information can be obtained, and then it is improtant to accurately obtain the parameters relating the light source and camera positions, etc.. In this paper, a calibration technique is presented for correction of measuremtn errors in a three-dimensional laser scanner system with two galvanometers. First, a model of the systematic errors is developed based on the geometry of the scanning system. Calibration parameter values are then iteratively adjusted with coarse-fine search in order to minimize errors (evaluation function) between measured and computed distances. It is shown that this correction method results in measurement precision suitable for practical use.

This paper aims to investigate the tow deformation pattern with respect to shear angle and mold property during draping of plain weave carbon/epoxy prepreg. Aluminum and PVC foams with different foam density are used for the draping hemisphere molds with 250 mm diameters. Microscopic observation reveals that tow parameters like crimp angle and Y-directional tow intervals are influenced by shear angle and mold density at the same time. The correlation between crimp angle and Y-directional tow interval is also found out.

Presented in this Paper is a Micro Machining Service .(MIMS) based on the World Wide Web technologies. In order to ensure easy access to the service, the web browsers are used as the user interface. The pan geometry as an STL file is uploaded with process parameter for 3-axis CNC milling. Depending on the predefined user level, novice or expert, the user interface requires different parameters for process planning. An STL-based CAM resides in the server and automatically provides NC codes upon user's request. Tool-paths for scanning and pencil-cut, which are interference-free and precise, are created by the curve-based polyhedral machining method. A couple of sample parts were fabricated by a micro endmill with 127 fm diameter. From the tests, the parts fabricated by scanning followed by pencil-cut resulted in less error(within 2%) than the parts machined only by scanning tool-path.
The present study has been conducted to design the high efficiency centrifugal compressor for a R134a turbo-chiller. The centrifugal compressor consists of an impeller with splitters, two vaneless diffusers, a low-solidity vaned diffuser and a volute. A cycle analysis program for a turbo-chiller was developed to obtain compressor design parameters and requirements. We have designed the high efficiency centrifugal compressor by applying the repeated design procedure including a meanline design, a 3D geometry generation and fluid dynamic loading calculations.
The temperature rise of GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) busbar system is a vital factor that affects its performance. In this paper, a two-dimensional model is presented by commercial code CFX11 for the evaluation of natural convection in the busbar system. In the model, SF6 (Sulfur Hexafluoride) is used to insulate the high voltage device and improves the heat transfer rate. The power losses of a busbar calculated by the magnetic field analysis are used as the input data to predict the temperature rise by the nature convection analysis. The heat-transfer coefficients on the boundaries are analytically calculated by applying the Nusselt number considering material property and model geometry for the natural convection. The temperatures of the tank and conductors from CFX simulation and the experiment were compared. The results show a good agreement. In the future, we will calculate the 3-D model and try to reduce the temperature by adjusting some dimensional parameters.
Three-diemnsional bead profile was measured using the biprism stereo vision sensor in GMAW, which consists of an optical filter, biprism and CCD camera. Since single CCD camera is used, this system has various advantages over the conventional stereo vision system using two cameras such as finding the corresponding points along the horizontal scanline. In this wort, the biprism stereo vision sensor was designed for the GMAW, and the linear calibration method was proposed to determine the prism and camera parameters. Image processing techniques were employed to find the corresponding point along the pool boundary. The ism-intensity contour corresponding to the pool boundary was found in the pixel order and the filter-based matching algorithm was used to refine the corresponding points in the subpixel order. Predicted bead dimensions were in broad agreements with the measured results under the conditions of spray mode and humping bead.

The neutronic analysis of Helium Cooled Ceramic Reflector (HCCR) breeding blankets has been performed using the 3D Monte Carlo code MCNPX and ENDF nuclear data library. This study aims to reduce 6Li percentage in the breeder zones as much as possible ensuring tritium self-sufficiency. This work is devoted to investigating the effect of 6Li percentage on the HCCR breeding blanket's neutronic parameters, such as neutron flux and spectrum, Tritium Breeding Ratio (TBR), nuclear power density, and energy multiplication factor. In the ceramic breeders at the saturated thickness, increasing the enrichment of 6Li reduces its share in the tritium production. Therefore, ceramic breeders typically use lower enriched Li from 30% to 60%. The investigation of neutronic analysis in the suggested geometry shows that using 60% 6Li in Li2TiO3 can yield acceptable TBR and energy deposition results, which would be economically feasible.
We investigate two abnormal CME-Storm pairs that occurred on 2014 September 10 - 12 and 2015 March 15 - 17, respectively. The first one was a moderate geomagnetic storm ($Dst_{min}{\sim}-75nT$) driven by the X1.6 high speed flare-associated CME ($1267km\;s^{-1}$) in AR 12158 (N14E02) near solar disk center. The other was a very intense geomagnetic storm ($Dst_{min}{\sim}-223nT$) caused by a CME with moderate speed ($719km\;s^{-1}$) and associated with a filament eruption accompanied by a weak flare (C9.1) in AR 12297 (S17W38). Both CMEs have large direction parameters facing the Earth and southward magnetic field orientation in their solar source region. In this study, we inspect the structure of Interplanetary Flux Ropes (IFRs) at the Earth estimated by using the torus fitting technique assuming self-similar expansion. As results, we find that the moderate storm on 2014 September 12 was caused by small-scale southward magnetic fields in the sheath region ahead of the IFR. The Earth traversed the portion of the IFR where only the northward fields are observed. Meanwhile, in case of the 2015 March 17 storm, our IFR analysis revealed that the Earth passed the very portion where only the southward magnetic fields are observed throughout the passage. The resultant southward magnetic field with long-duration is the main cause of the intense storm. We suggest that 3D magnetic field geometry of an IFR at the IFR-Earth encounter is important and the strength of a geomagnetic storm is strongly affected by the relative location of the Earth with respect to the IFR structure.

A novel image mosaicking technique suitable for 3D urban visualization is proposed. It is not effective to apply 2D image mosaicking techniques for urban visualization when, for example, one is filming a sequence of images from a side-looking video camera along a road in an urban area. The proposed method presents the roadside scene captured by a side-looking video camera as a continuous set of textured planar faces, which are termed 'multiple planes' in this paper. The exterior parameters of each frame are first calculated through automatically selected matching feature points. The matching feature points are also used to estimate a plane approximation of the scene geometry for each frame. These planes are concatenated to create an approximate model on which images are back-projected as textures. Here, we demonstrate algorithm that creates efficient image mosaics in 3D space from a sequence of real images.

Digital topographical maps used for GIS DB are mainly produced by the traditional way of analogue aerial photogrammetry. Therefore, analogue photos are only available for digital mapping after preprocessing such as film developing, printing and scanning. However, digital aerial camera is able to get digital image directly without preprocessing and thus the performance and efficiency of photogrammetry are extremely increased. This study aims to investigate geometric stability of digital aerial frame camera DMC (Digital Modular Camera). In order to verify the geometric stability of digital aerial camera DMC, some different block conditions with and without cross strips, GPS/INS data and variation of GCPs are introduced in the block adjustment. The accuracy results of every block condition were compared each other by computation of residuals of exterior orientation (EO) parameters. Results of study shows that the geometric stability of the block adjustment with cross strips is increased about 30% against without cross strips. The accuracy of EO parameters of block adjustment with cross strips is also increased about 2cm for X-coordinate, 3cm for Y-coordinate, 3cm for Z-coordinate, and 6" for omega, 4" for phi and 3" for kappa.
