The capabilities of finite elements codes allow now accurate simulations of blanking processes when appropriate materials modelling are used. Over the last decade, numerous numerical studies have focused on the influence of process parameters such as punch-die clearance, tools geometry and friction on blanking force and blank profile. In this study, three dimensional finite element analysis is carried out to design a lead frame blanking die using LS-Dyna3D package. After design of the blanking die, an experiment is also carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for nickel alloy Alloy42, a kind of IC lead frame material. In this paper, it has been researched the investigation to examine the influence of process parameters such as clearance and air cylinder pressure on the accuracy of sheared plane. Through the experiment results, it is shown that the quality of sheared plane is less affected by clearance and air cylinder pressure.
Based on three-dimensional (3-D) FE limit analyses, this paper provides plastic limit and TES(Twice-Elastic-Slope) loads for pipe bends under combined pressure and out-of-plane bending. The plastic limit loads are determined from FE limit analyses based on elastic-perfectly-plastic materials using the small geometry change option, and the FE limit analyses using the large geometry change option provide TES plastic loads. A wide range of parameters related to the bend geometry is considered. Based on the FE results, closed-form approximations of plastic limit and TES plastic load solutions for pipe bends under out-of-plane bending are proposed.
Thermal stratification enhancement for the higher extraction efficiency of hot water storage tank was experimentally studied with transparent fiber glass cylindical tank($350{\ell}$, D=516mm, H=1680mm). Height to diameter ratio (H/D =1,2,3), flow rate(Q= 8,10,12LPM), inlet-outlet temperature differences(${\Delta}T=20,25,30^{\circ}C$), and geometry of inlet-outlet port were the parameters. In particular, three kind of distributors were used for geometry of inlet-outlet port. As a result, it was possible to get extraction efficiency of 95% by using the distributor having variable diameter but keeping a constant diameter of perforation. So it is recommendable to design the distributor so that the main pipe decrease in diameter toward the dead end.
The variation of the undrained shear strength (cu) is an important consideration for assessing slope stability in engineering practice. Previous studies focused on the three-dimensional (3D) stability of slopes in normally consolidated clays generally assume the undrained shear strength increases linearly with depth but does not vary in the horizontal direction. To assess the 3D stability of slopes with spatially varying undrained shear strength, the kinematic approach of limit analysis was adopted to obtain the upper bound solution to the stability number based on a modified failure mechanism. Three types failure mechanism: the toe failure, face failure and below-toe failure were considered. A serious of charts was then presented to illustrate the effect of key parameters on the slope stability and failure geometry. It was found that the stability and failure geometry of slopes are significantly influenced by the gradient of cu in the depth direction. The influence of cu profile inclination on the slope stability was found to be pronounced when the increasing gradient of cu in the depth direction is large. Slopes with larger width-to-height ratio B/H are more sensitive to the variation of cu profile inclination.
In this paper automatic 3D wing shape modeling program is introduced. The program is developed in Visual Basic based on Net Framework 3.5 environment by using CATIA COM Library, and it is used together with CATIA system to model 3D wings with or without flaps. With this program users can easily construct wing models by specifying geometry parameters which are usually design variables with the aid of easy-to-use GUI environment, and specifying sectional airfoil data is done either by using analytic shape functions such as NACA series airfoils or by providing input files with point data describing the airfoil shape. When all the input parameters are provided, users can either work further with the model in the CATIA system which would be automatically started by the program or save the resultant model in the format of users choice. Unstructured grid generation program is also briefly described which can make grid generation task for a 3D wing easy and efficient one when used together with the wing modeling program by choosing STL format as the model's output format.
A numerical study of the influence of shear-span/depth ratio on the cohesive crack fracture parameters and double - K fracture parameters of concrete is carried out in this paper. For the study the standard bending specimen geometry loaded with four point bending test is used. For four point loading, the shear - span/depth ratio is varied as 0.4, 1 and 1.75 and the ao/D ratio is varied from 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 for laboratory specimens having size range from 100 - 500 mm. The input parameters for determining the double - K fracture parameters are taken from the developed fictitious crack model. It is found that the cohesive crack fracture parameters are independent of shear-span/depth ratio. Further, the unstable fracture toughness of double-K fracture model is independent of shear-span/depth ratio whereas, the initial cracking toughness of the material is dependent on the shear-span/depth ratio.
In this paper, we present an approach that is able to reconstruct 3 dimensional metric models from un-calibrated images acquired by a freely moved camera system. If nothing is known of the calibration of either camera, nor the arrangement of one camera which respect to the other, then the projective reconstruction will have projective distortion which expressed by an arbitrary projective transformation. The distortion on the reconstruction is removed from projection to metric through self-calibration. The self-calibration requires no information about the camera matrices, or information about the scene geometry. Self-calibration is the process of determining internal camera parameters directly from multiply un-calibrated images. Self-calibration avoids the onerous task of calibrating cameras which needs to use special calibration objects. The root of the method is setting a uniquely fixed conic(absolute quadric) in 3D space. And it can make possible to figure out some way from the images. Once absolute quadric is identified, the metric geometry can be computed. We compared reconstruction image from calibrated images with the result by self-calibration method.

In this paper we deal with the problem of recovering 3-D motion and structure from a time-varying 2-D velocity vector field. A great deal has been done on this topic, most of which has concentrated on finding necessary and sufficient conditions for there to be a unique 3-D solution corresponding to a given 2-D motion. While previous work provides useful theoretical insight, in most situations the known algorithms have turned out to be too sensitive to be of much practical use. It appears that any robust algorithm must improve the 3-D solutions over time. As a step toward such algorithm, we present a method for recovering 3-D motion and structure from a given time-varying 2-D velocity vector field. The surface of the object in the scene is assumed to be locally planar. It is also assumed that 3-D velocity vectors are piecewise constant over three consecutive frames (or two snapshots of flow field). Our formulation relates 3-D motion and object geometry with the optical flow vector as well as its spatial and temporal derivatives. The linearization parameters, or equivalently, the first-order flow approximation (in space and time) is sufficient to recover rigid body motion and local surface structure from the local instantaneous flow field. We also demonstrate, through a sensitivity analysis carried out for synthetic and natural motions in space, that 3-D motion can be recovered reliably.

The objective of this study was to investigate a simulation technology for the AM field based on ANSYS Inc.. The introduction of metal 3D printing AM process, and the examining of the present status of AM process simulation software, and the AM process simulation processor were done in the previous study (part 1). This present study (part 2) examined the use of the AM process simulation processor, presented in Part 1, through direct execution of Topology Optimization, Ansys Workbench, Additive Print and Additive Science. Topology Optimization can optimize additive geometry to reduce mass while maintaining strength for AM products. This can reduce the amount of material required for additive and significantly reduce additive build time. Ansys Workbench and Additive Print simulate the build process in the AM process and optimize various process variables (printing parameters and supporter composition), which will enable the AM to predict the problems that may occur during the build process, and can also be used to predict and correct deformations in geometry. Additive Science can simulate the material to find the material characteristic before the AM process simulation or build-up. This can be done by combining specimen preparation, measurement, and simulation for material measurements to find the exact material characteristics. This study will enable the understanding of the general process of AM simulation more easily. Furthermore, it will be of great help to a reader who wants to experience and appreciate AM simulation for the first time.
