16-QAM-Based Highly Spectral-Efficient E-band Communication System with Bit Rate up to 10 Gbps

  • This paper presents a novel 16-quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM) E-band communication system. The system can deliver 10 Gbps through eight channels with a bandwidth of 5 GHz (71-76 GHz/81-86 GHz). Each channel occupies 390 MHz and delivers 1.25 Gbps using a 16-QAM. Thus, this system can achieve a bandwidth efficiency of 3.2 bit/s/Hz. To implement the system, a driver amplifier and an RF up-/down-conversion mixer are implemented using a $0.1{\mu}m$ gallium arsenide pseudomorphic high-electron-mobility transistor (GaAs pHEMT) process. A single-IF architecture is chosen for the RF receiver. In the digital modem, 24 square root raised cosine filters and four (255, 239) Reed-Solomon forward error correction codecs are used in parallel. The modem can compensate for a carrier-frequency offset of up to 50 ppm and a symbol rate offset of up to 1 ppm. Experiment results show that the system can achieve a bit error rate of $10^{-5}$ at a signal-to-noise ratio of about 21.5 dB.

프랙탈에 기초한 해저지형의 보간 (Fractal-Based Interpolation of Sea Floor Terrains)

  • 저해상도 3D 해저 디지털 지형 모형(Digital terrain model: DTM)의 이미지를 컴퓨터 화면에 확대 표시할 때 데이터가 없는 픽셀은 인위적으로 보간해서 표시할 수밖에 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존의 선형 보간법의 문제점을 개선하기 위해 저해상도 DTM으로부터 지형정보를 추출하고 이로부터 보간하는 방법을 다룬다. 이를 위해 DTM을 다수의 패치로 분할하고 프랙탈 이론(Fractal theory)를 이용하여 프랙탈 차원을 추정하고, 추정 정보와 원래의 데이터를 근간으로 패치 지형을 Midpoint Displacement법으로 보간하고, 보간된 이미지의 국부적인 기복을 완화해 자연스런 해저지형을 만들기 위해 미디언 필터(Median filter)를 이용한다. 가상의 프랙탈 지형 맵을 이용하여 제안된 알고리즘의 그 유효성을 검정한다.

  • To ensure competitiveness in the modem automotive market, process and material planning should be performed concurrently with new car developments. In automotive general assembly shops, thus, new business workflows and supporting environments are inevitable to reduce the manufacturing preparation time in developing a new car in the manner of concurrent and collaborative engineering. Since complete material planning for a whole general assembly system is a huge and complex job, several planners should execute their planning jobs and share information. Therefore, each planner should provide others with his/her results with continuous on-line communication and cooperation. In this research, a web-based system for concurrent and collaborative process and material planning for automotive general assembly via 3D digital mock-up S/W is developed. By using this system, savings in time and cost of process and material planning are possible, and the reliability of the planning result is improved.

Analysis and Experimental Verification of the Moving-Magnet Linear Actuator with Cylindrical Halbach and Radial Array

  • In the machine tool industry, direct drive linear motor technology is of increasing interest as a means to achieve high acceleration and to increase reliability. This paper analyzes and compares the characteristics of the tubular linear actuator with the cylindrical Halbach and radial array, respectively. A tubular linear actuator with cylindrical Halbach array, consisting of parallel magnetized arc segments instead of ideal radial and axial magnetized rings, is manufactured. The magnetic field solutions due to the PMs and to the currents are established analytically in terms of vector potential, using the 2-D cylindrical coordinate system. Motor thrust, flux linkage and back emf are then derived. Thrust characteristics according to such design parameters as magnet height and air gap length are also given. The results are validated extensively by comparison with finite element analysis (FEA). Test results such as thrust measurements are also given to confirm the analysis.

3D Vision-Based Local Path Planning System of a Humanoid Robot for Obstacle Avoidance

  • This paper addresses the vision based local path planning system for obstacle avoidance. To handle the obstacles which exist beyond the field of view (FOV), we propose a Panoramic Environment Map (PEM) using the MDGHM-SIFT algorithm. Moreover, we propose a Complexity Measure (CM) and Fuzzy logic-based Avoidance Motion Selection (FAMS) system to enable a humanoid robot to automatically decide its own direction and walking motion when avoiding an obstacle. The CM provides automation in deciding the direction of avoidance, whereas the FAMS system chooses the avoidance path and walking motion, based on environment conditions such as the size of the obstacle and the available space around it. The proposed system was applied to a humanoid robot that we designed. The results of the experiment show that the proposed method can be effectively applied to decide the avoidance direction and the walking motion of a humanoid robot.

An innovative idea for developing a new gamma-ray dosimetry system based on optical colorimetry techniques

  • Obtaining knowledge of the absorbed dose up-taken by a certain material when it is exposed to a specific ionizing radiation field is a very important task. Even though there are a plenitude of methods for determining the absorbed dose, each one has its own strong points and also drawbacks. In this article, an innovative idea for the development of a new gamma-ray dosimetry system is proposed. The method described in this article is based on optical colorimetry techniques. A color standard is fixed to the back of a BK-7 glass plate and then placed in a point in space where the absorbed dose needs to be determined. Gamma-ray-induced defects (color centers) in the glass plate start occurring, leading to a degree of saturation of the standard color, which is proportional, on a certain interval, to the absorbed dose. After the exposure, a high-quality digital image of the sample is taken, which is then processed (MATLAB), and its equivalent $I_{RGB}$ intensity value is determined. After a prior corroboration between various well-known absorbed dose values and their corresponding $I_{RGB}$ values, a calibration function is obtained. By using this calibration function, an "unknown" up-taken dose value can be determined.

UAV를 이용한 홍수모니터링 기술 (Technology of flood monitoring using UAV)

  • 기후변화에 따른 집중호우의 발생빈도와 강도가 증가하면서 대규모 홍수로 인한 인명 및 재산피해가 발생하고 있다. 그에 따라 홍수 상황을 신속하게 확보하고 홍수피해를 빠르게 예측하는 모니터링 기술이 필요하다. 최근 공간정보 분야에서 무인항공기 (UAV: Unmanned aerial vehicles)를 이용한 3차원 지형자료 확보 연구가 활발하게 이용되고 있다. 무인항공기는 지형자료 구축 뿐 만 아니라 홍수 시 신속한 홍수 모니터링이 가능하기 때문에, 본 연구에서는 무인항공기를 이용하여 홍수 전 지형자료 구축을 비롯하여, 홍수 시 모니터링, 홍수 후 지형자료 구축에 이르기까지 UAV를 이용한 홍수 모니터링 기술을 소개한다. 연구대상지는 금강 합류 직전 논산천 하류 1 km 지점으로, UAV를 이용한 지형자료를 구축하기 이전에 좌표 매칭을 위한 GCP (Ground Control Point ) 측량을 실시하고, UAV 비행계획을 수립하고 촬영한다. 촬영된 영상을 GCP좌표와 소프트웨어 (Pix4D)를 이용하여 정사영상과 DSM(Digital Surface Model)자료를 구축한다. 홍수시 UAV를 이용한 촬영을 통하여 동영상은 수재해 플랫폼에 송신하고, 이미지 영상은 홍수 전 영상처리와 동일한 방법을 이용하여 지형 자료를 구축하여, 홍수시 침수심이나 지형변화를 분석한다.

시각인터페이스적용효과 및 공간표현을 활용한 증강현실광고 사례연구 (A Case Study on Augmented Reality Advertisement using Visual Interface Effect and Spatial Expression)

  • Due to the rapid development of computer and digital technologies, those technologies were used in advertising. In order to meet the needs of marketing, a virtual space or character using 3D graphic augmented reality technology was developed and applied to advertisement. This study analyzed the characteristics of augmented reality in terms of interface design and spatial expression of augmented reality through case study. Firstly, we wanted to find the relationship between the types of the augmented reality advertisement and interface effects. Secondly, we wanted to find the spatial expression methods. The sample survey case studies based on 42 articles from 2012 to 2018 using Chinese and Korean site sharing augmented reality advertisement. The results of the case studies were divided into two parts. Firstly, the relationship between augmented reality types and interface effects were found basing on the augmented reality index. It means that the augmented reality index can be illustrated by using the augmented reality type. Simultaneously, the augmented reality type can be illustrated using the interface effect. The second part was that the types of display were used as a spatial representation. And the results showed that mobile display and public place display were the most frequently used.

VVC 인트라 부호화기술을 이용한 라이트필드 영상 부호화 (Light Field Image Compression using Versatile Video Coding Intra Prediction)

  • Light Field (LF) camera captures not only the light intensity but also the light direction coming to camera. While the rich information captured by LF camera enables many interesting applications such as digital refocusing, viewpoint changing, and 3D reconstruction, but it also requires powerful coding tools to reduce its large volume of data. In this paper, we investigate using the intra prediction scheme of the versatile video coding (VVC), which is the most recent video coding technology currently under developing, to compress the LF image. The Intra Block Copy (IBC) technique in VVC is exploited considering special LF image structure. The experimental result shows that VVC intra predict ion outperforms the H.265/HEVC intra coding technique in encoding LF data irrespective of using the IBC mode or not.

  • 디지털 캐릭터 리깅은 애니메이션의 생동감을 높이는 중요한 기술이며, 다양하고 복잡한 방식의 리깅 시스템이 많다. 이에 자연스러운 움직임을 위한 모션 테스트를 물고기로 진행한다. 왜냐하면, 2족, 4족 캐릭터의 자료들은 더러 있으나, 물고기(0족) 움직임에 관한 연구의 자료는 많이 없다. 물고기 움직임 제작의 다양성과 복잡성이 증가하면서 비효율적인 시간과 자본도 요구된다. 물고기 특성에 맞는 골조 시스템을 어떻게 만들 것인지는, 어떻게 효율적이고 민첩한 리깅 프로세스를 만드느냐에 달려있다. 본 연구는 높은 시간비용의 리깅 기술 문제를 해결할 수 있는 어드밴스드 스켈레톤(Advanced Skeleton) 기반의 애니메이션 리깅 제작 프로세스와 Maya Rig를 비교하여, 어드밴스드 스켈레톤(Advanced Skeleton)의 장점을 활용해 최적의 자동 리깅 툴을 모색하고, 물고기 애니메이션 연구 범주를 넓힐 것에 목적을 두고 있다.
