  • A 3 dB coupler has been designed and implemented using the most commonly used double-sided FR4 boards. The coupling and the bandwidth of the coupler are enhanced with the enlarged overlapped area of the coupler. Major design parameters are plotted as a design guide and the parameters are verified by simulation and measurement. The size of the manufactured coupler is $30{\times}14mm^2$. Its measured insertion loss and phase difference are 0.6 dB and $90.5^{\circ}$ at center frequency of 2.5 GHz, respectively. The operating frequency range is 1.72 GHz to 3.08 GHz for $3.6{\pm}0.5dB$ insertion loss. The coupler has the performance similar to that of conventional Lange coupler, and implementation of the coupler is easy and cheap with wide metal width and spacing and no additional wire bonding process.

  • This paper proposes a method of support-generation using morphological image processing instead of geometric calculations. The geometric computational cost is dependent on the shape, but our method is independent on the shape. For obtaining the external support area for extrusion shape, we represents morphological operations between two sliced layer images and shows results of each operation stages. Internal support area is evaluated from erosion and opening operations with the sliced-layer image. In these support areas, the supporter image is generated using the designed support structures. Also, we made a DLP printer and the STL model included supporter-structure is printed by the DLP printer. We confirmed the necessity of support-generation method with the support structures individually dependent on materials by looking at the printed results.

  • Tn this paper, PCB (Printed Circuit Board) embedded $BaTiO_3$ MIM capacitors were designed, fabricated, and characterized for low cost organic SOP applications by using 3-D EM simulator and low temperature processes. Size of electrodes and thickness of high dielectric films are optimized for improving the performance characteristics of the proposed embedded MIM capacitors at high frequency regime. The selected thicknesses of the $BaTiO_3$ film are $12{\mu}m$, $16{\mu}m$, and $20{\mu}m$. The fabricated MIM capacitor with dielectric constant of 30 and thickness of $12{\mu}m$ has capacitance density of $21.5p\;F/mm^2$ at 100MHz, maximum quality factor of 37.4 at 300 MHz, a quality factor of 30.9 at 1GHz, self resonant frequency of 5.4 GHz, respectively. The measured capacitances and quality factors are well matched with 3-D EM simulated ones. These embedded capacitors are promising for SOP based advanced electronic systems with various functionality, low cost, small size and volume.

  • In this paper, the several printed square loop antennas which modified monopole antennas are proposed. The proposed antennas are reduced about 20% physical size of antenna and miniaturized reactance value of impedance due to fold center part of the loop. They obtained omni-directional radiation patterns with broad bandwidth and feed method used coplanar waveguide to composed single planar. The proposed antenna bandwidth is about 900MHz($2.63{\sim}3.56GHz]$) resonance frequency on $VSWR{\le}2$. it can be sufficiency of S-DMB band.

  • Applications such as vibration isolation, gravity compensation, pick-and-place machines, etc., would benefit from (long-stroke) cylindrical/tubular permanent magnet (PM) actuators with integrated passive gravity compensation to minimize the power consumption. As an example, in component placing (pick-and-place) machines on printed circuit boards, passive devices allow the powerless counteraction of translator including nozzles or tooling bits. In these applications, an increasing demand is arising for high-speed actuation with high precision and bandwidth capability mainly due to the placement head being at the foundation of the motion chain, hence, a large mass of this device will result in high force/power requirements for the driving mechanism (i.e. an H-bridge with three linear permanent magnet motors placed in an H-configuration). This paper investigates a tubular actuator topology combined with passive gravity compensation. These two functionalities are separately introduced, where the combination is verified using comprehensive three dimensional (3D) finite element analyses.

  • In this paper, an ultra-wideband internal antenna for use in mobile applications is proposed. The proposed antenna has symmetrical bi-arm structures printed on the top and bottom of the substrate, and it occupies a compact area of 10 mm ${\times}$ 10 mm ${\times}$ 1 mm. The designed antenna has an impedance bandwidth from 3 GHz to 12 GHz and near omnidirectional radiation patterns over the frequency band of interest. The group delay between two antennas fabricated using the proposed design is less than 0.8 ns, and the maximum gain variation is about 3.16 dB.

  • A cross-shaped microstripline-fed printed slot antenna having wide bandwidth Is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna is analyzed by using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. It was found that the bandwidth of the antenna depends highly on the length of the horizontal and vertical feedline as well as the offset position of the feedline. The maximum bandwidth of this antenna is from 1.975 GHz to 4.725 GHz, which is approximately 1.3 octave, for the VSWR $\leq$ 2. Experimental data for the return loss and the radiation pattern of the antenna are also presented. and they are in good agreement with the FDTD results.e FDTD results.

  • The printed electronics field using ink-jet printing technology is in the spotlight as a next-generation technology, especially ink-jet 3D printing, which can simultaneously discharge and precisely control various ink materials, has been actively researched in recent years. In this study, complex structure of an insulating layer and a conductive layer was fabricated with photo-curable silica ink and PVP-added Cu nano ink using ink-jet 3D printing technology. A precise photocured silica insulating layer was designed by optimizing the printing conditions and the rheological properties of the ink, and the resistance of the insulating layer was 2.43 × 1013 Ω·cm. On the photo-cured silica insulating layer, a Cu conductive layer was printed by controlling droplet distance. The sintering of the PVP-added nano Cu ink was performed using an IPL flash sintering process, and electrical and mechanical properties were confirmed according to the annealing temperature and applied voltage. Finally, it was confirmed that the resistance of the PVP-added Cu conductive layer was very low as 29 μΩ·cm under 100℃ annealing temperature and 700 V of IPL applied voltage, and the adhesion to the photo-cured silica insulating layer was very good.

  • In this paper, we investigate the power integrity of grid structures for power and ground distribution on printed circuit board (PCB). We propose the 2D transmission line method (TLM)-based model for efficient frequency-dependent impedance characterization and PCB-package-integrated circuit (IC) co-simulation. The model includes an equivalent circuit model of fringing capacitance and probing ports. The accuracy of the proposed grid model is verified with test structure measurements and 3D electromagnetic (EM) simulations. If the grid structures replace the plane structures in PCBs, they should provide effective shielding of the electromagnetic interference in mobile systems. An analytical model to predict the shielding effectiveness (SE) of the grid structures is proposed and verified with EM simulations.

  • In this paper, the broadband antenna design, which can be applied to USB Dongle, supporting Wibro(2.3~2.4 GHz), Wi-Fi(2.4~2.5 GHz) and LTE7(2.5~2.7 GHz) is proposed technique. The proposed antenna was designed similar to PIFA type antennas. Reactive elements were used to control the input impedance and wideband characteristics were achieved by controlling coupling between the feed structure and the radiator. As a result, the antenna printed on FR-4 PCB(${\epsilon}_r$ =4.4, tan ${\delta}$=0.02) occupying an area of $15{\times}5mm^2$ was able to achieve bandwidth of 1 GHz from 2.1 to 3.1 GHz under VSWR=2. Measured return loss characteristics, bandwidth and radiation patterns were in good agreement with the simulated results.
