  • The objective of this study was to determine the effects of substrate water content and electrical conductivity (EC) on the incidence of brown fruit stem and blossom end rot in glasshouse sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum cv. Special). Three levels of water content and EC had been treated since the first fruit reached 3cm in diameter: that is, 49 (low), 65 (medium), and 86% (high) for water content, and 2.4 (low), 4.2 (medium) and $6.3dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$(high) for EC. Shoot growth was reduced with decreasing water content, and it was lower in both high and low EC treatments than medium EC treatment. Fruit weight at harvest was greater in both medium and hish water content treatments than low water content treatment (158g vs 146g). High EC reduced fruit weight compared to or low EC treatments. The incidence of brown fruit stem increased with increasing water content and with decreasing EC. The highest incidence was shown in the high water content/low EC treatment (38%), which was considerably higher than 2.4% of the low water content/high EC treatment. Blossom end rot occurred in general in the low water content and/or high EC conditions. These results indicated that substrate water content and EC should be controlled differently according to the growth stage, to reduce the incidence of blossom end rot and brown fruit stem in glasshouse sweet pepper. First, to reduce blossom end rot incidence, water content should be maintained high (86%) and EC low ($2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$) until Sweets after fruit set. Secondly, to reduce brown fruit stem incidence, water content should be maintained low (49%) and EC high ($6.3dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$), especially after completion of fruit growth.

  • A new mesh reconstruction scheme for approximating a surface from a set of unorganized 3D points is proposed. The proposed method, called a shrink-wrapped boundary face (SWBF) algorithm, produces the final surface by iteratively shrinking the initial mesh generated from the definition of the boundary faces. SWBF surmounts the genus-0 spherical topology restriction of previous shrink-wrapping-based mesh generation techniques and can be applied to any type of surface topology. Furthermore, SWBF is significantly faster than a related algorithm of Jeong and others, as SWBF requires only a local nearest-point-search in the shrinking process. Our experiments show that SWBF is very robust and efficient for surface reconstruction from an unorganized point cloud.

  • This research examines the possibilities of a traditional costume revival and digital exhibition as well as the application of 3D virtual clothing modeling data in order to preserve and record a disappearing costume heritage to realize it as a social education tool through the newly emerging technology of 3D virtual clothing. A 3D revival of costumes worn by royal families and aristocrats was accomplished through the 3D animation and simulation technology of Maya 2011 (Autodesk, Inc.) and Qualoth (FX Gear, Inc.). The simulation shows the possibility of a 3D revival and digital exhibition of costume heritage. However, further technology support to analyze and realize the composition and design is still necessary to develop the digital contents of traditional garment culture that includes skirt pleats, petticoat silhouettes, that exaggerates the skirts and knots of traditional upper garments (Jeogori). Further studies on design attributes of historic costumes and the upgrading of 3D simulation software are required to realize 3D virtual clothing. Korean traditional costumes will be revived as a cultural content in the digital era as a result of outstanding issues detected by this study.

  • The construction of virtual indoor spaces is crucial for the development of metaverses, virtual production, and other 3D content domains. Traditional methods for creating these spaces are often cost-prohibitive and labor-intensive. To address these challenges, we present a pipeline for generating digital twins of real indoor environments from RGB-D camera-scanned data. Our pipeline synergizes space structure estimation, 3D object detection, and the inpainting of missing areas, utilizing deep learning technologies to automate the creation process. Specifically, we apply deep learning models for object recognition and area inpainting, significantly enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of virtual space construction. Our approach minimizes manual labor and reduces costs, paving the way for the creation of metaverse spaces that closely mimic real-world environments. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our deep learning applications in overcoming traditional obstacles in digital twin creation, offering high-fidelity digital replicas of indoor spaces. This advancement opens for immersive and realistic virtual content creation, showcasing the potential of deep learning in the field of virtual space construction.

  • To develop an onion sauce, reaction conditions of celluclast 1.5L and pectinex on onion were investigated and organoleptic evaluations were carried out. Degree of hydrolysis(D.H) of hydrolysate by a mixture of celluclast 1.5L and pectinex was a higher than that by each enzyme. Hydrolysate by a mixture of celluclast 1.5L and pectinex(1:3v/v) showed 86% of D.H. and total sugar content of the hydrolysate was 54mg/ml. Hydrolysates showed 83~86% of D.H. at reaction temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ to 45$^{\circ}C$. Total sugar content of the hydrolysate was increased with increasing temperature. D.H. and total sugar content of hydrolysate was 76~86% and 51~63mg/ml, respectively, under acidic conditions. D.H. and total sugar content of hydrolysate were also increased with increasing time. Bitterness, sweetness and ordor of roasted pork prepared by adding onion and onion hydrolysate were significantly different(p<0.05), but color and preference between two groups were not significantly different(p<0.05) between two groups. There was no significant difference(p<0.05) in sweetness and bitterness of the roasted pork prepared by adding different amounts of onion hydrolysate, although ordor and preference of the roasted pork were significantly different(p<0.05).

  • Details are given of an study of the characteristics of field-induced electron emission from hydrogen-free high $sp^3$ content(>90%) amorphous diamond (a-D) film deposited on heavily doped ($\rho$<0.01 $\Omega\cdot\textrm{cm}$) n-type monocrystalline Si(111) substrate. It is demonstrated that a-D film has excellent electron field emission properties. Emission current can reach 0.9 $\mu$A at applied field as low as 1 V/$\mu\textrm{m}$, and emission current density can be obtained about several mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The emission current is stable when the beginning current is at 50 $\mu$A within 72 hours. Uniform fluorescence display of electron emission from whole face of the a-D film under the electric field of 10~20 V/$\mu\textrm{m}$ was also observed. It can be considered that the contribution of excellent electron emission property results from its smooth, uniform, amorphous surface and high $sp^3$ content of the a-D films.

  • Objectives: Aging is an unconscious and gradual process that can lead to changes in biological systems. Induction of oxidative stress and apoptosis, hepatotoxicity and neurotoxicity are involved in the aging process. Regarding the antioxidant property of black seed oil, the aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-aging effect of Nigella sativa (N. sativa) oil on d-galactose-induced aging in mice. Methods: For induction of aging, D-galactose (500 mg/kg, subcoutaneously SC) was administrated to male mice for 42 days. Animals were treated with D-galactose alone or with b lack seed oil (0.1, 0.2, 0.5 mL/kg, intraperitoneally (ip)). Additionally, vitamin E (200 mg/kg) was used as a positive control. At the end of treatment, the malondialdehyde (MDA) and the glutathione (GSH) contents in brain and liver tissues were measured. Also, enzymes in serum, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine amino transferase (ALT), were determined. The levels of the proteins Bax, Bcl2, caspase-3 (pro and cleaved) in brain and liver tissues were evaluated. Results: Administration of D-galactose (500 mg/kg, SC) for 42 days increased serum levels of ALT and AST, as well as the MDA content, in brain and liver tissues, but decreased the GSH content. Additionally, the levels of apoptotic proteins, including Bax, procaspase-3 and caspase-3 cleaved, were markedly increased. N. sativa oil (0.1 and 0.2 mL/kg) diminished the levels of the biochemical markers ALT and AST. Administration of black seed oil (0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 mL/kg) reduced lipid peroxidation and at doses 0.1 and 0.2 mL/kg significantly recovered the GSH content. The oil decreased Bax/Bcl2 levels and at 0.1 mL/kg down-regulated the expressions of caspase-3 (pro and cleaved) proteins in brain and liver tissues. Conclusion: Through its antioxidant and anti-apoptosis properties, black seed oil exhibited an anti-aging effect in a model of aging induced with D-galactose.

  • Coding education and algorithm education are essential in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. Text-oriented algorithm textbooks are perceived as difficult by students who are new to coding and algorithms. There is a need to develop educational content so that students can easily understand the principles of complex algorithms. This paper has implemented basic sorting algorithms as augmented reality contents for students who are new to algorithm education. To make it easier to understand the concept and principles of sorting algorithms, sorting data was expressed as a 3D box and the comparison of values according to the algorithms and the movement of values were produced as augmented reality contents in the form of 3D animations. In order to help with the understanding of sorting algorithms in C language, the change of variable values and the exchange of data were shown as animations according to the execution order of the code and the flow of the loop. Students can conveniently use contents through a smart phone without special equipment by being produced in a marker-based manner. Interest and immersion, as well as understanding of classes of sorting algorithms can be increased through educational augmented reality-based educational contents.

  • The objectives of this study were to determine the impact of soil water content on the growth, stomatal conductance, and photosynthesis of Kimchi cabbage and to evaluate proper parameters for development of growth models. There were five levels of irrigation amount treatments (0, 200, 300, 400, and 500 mL/d/plant) and those were commenced at one day after transplanting (DAT). We measured soil water content, stomatal conductance, photosynthesis characteristics, and the A-Ci curve. The growth of Kimchi cabbage as affected by irrigation amount was evaluated at 38 days after transplanting, however, the growth with 0 and 200 mL/d/plant irrigation amount treatments measured at 29 DAT. The relationship between soil water content and stomatal conductance was highly correlated ($r^2=0.999$) and the function represented by y = 6097.4x - 4.2984. The stomatal conductance of Kimchi cabbage leaves showed $300mmol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ when the soil water content was below $0.05m^3/m^3$. The stomatal conductance was rapidly decreased by scarcity of soil moisture. A-Ci curve indicated normal curve in fully irrigation treatment (500 mL/d/plant), however, $CO_2$ couldn't diffuse through the intercellular Kimchi cabbage leaves treated with 0 mL/d/plant. The dry weight of full irrigation treatment was greater approximately 6.8 times than that of deficit irrigation (0 mL/d/plant). In addition, leaf area index showed a logarithmic function (y = 16.573 + 3.398 ln x) with soil water content and that of R-squared represents 0.913. Results indicated that the soil water content was highly correlated with stomatal conductance and leaf area index. Indeed, the scarcity soil moisture reduced photosynthesis and retarded growth.
