  • Plane-based computational integral imaging (CIIR) provides the reconstruction of depth-dependent 3D plane images. However, it has problem degrading the resolution of reconstructed images due to the artifact noise according to the depth. In this paper, to overcome this problem, a signal model for plane-based CIIR is explain. Also the compensation process is introduced to remove the noise caused from CIIR. Computational experiments show that we analyze the characteristics of noise in the reconstructed image of 2D Gaussian image and the high-resolution images can be obtained by using the compensation process.

  • This paper proposes a design of the tile based on graphic pipeline to improve the graphic application performance in SIMT based GP-GPU. The proposed Tile based on graphics pipeline avoids unnecessary graphic processing operation, and processes the rasterization step in parallel. The massive data processing in parallel through SIMT architecture improve the computational performance, thereby improving the 3D graphic pipeline performance. The more vertex data of 3D model, the higher performance. The proposed structure was confirmed to improve processing performance of up to 3 times from about 1.18 times as compared to 'RAMP' and previous studies.

  • This paper presents the development of certain highly efficient and accurate system for producing animation key data for 3D lip-synch animation. The system developed herein extracts korean phonemes from sound and text data automatically and then computes animation key data using the segmented phonemes. This animation key data is used for 3D lip-synch animation system developed herein as well as commercial 3D facial animation system. The conventional 3D lip-synch animation system segments the sound data into the phonemes based on English phonemic system and produces the lip-synch animation key data using the segmented phoneme. A drawback to this method is that it produces the unnatural animation for Korean contents. Another problem is that this method needs the manual supplementary work. In this paper, we propose the 3D lip-synch animation system that can segment the sound and text data into the phonemes automatically based on Korean phonemic system and produce the natural lip-synch animation using the segmented phonemes.

  • This study aims to develop a bodice and a jacket in 3D of the late 19th to early 20th based on the pattern drafting book of Gordon S. S., which contains body measurement method and pattern drafting system. The findings of this research are as follows. First, female tops of the late 19th to early 20th century are categorized as outer, jacket, vest, and bodice. Of these, this study highlights the jacket, which can be divided into 4 types: 4 kinds of basic jacket, 2 kinds of riding jacket, bolero jacket, and newmarket jacket. Second, by referring to Gordon's pattern drafting system and book, a bodice was developed in 3D format based on the adherence to the following steps: analysis of the pattern drafting system, pattern drafting, 3D virtual simulation, 3D virtual fitting analysis, and the pattern correction. A bodice pattern corrected by 3D virtual clothing simulation results was proposed. Last, a basic sleeve and collar pattern for a basic jacket was drafted, which was followed by the correction and transformation of the bodice pattern. The jacket developed shows great fit except for the issues at the armhole line and shoulder, which were caused by the unique shape of the sleeves(big sleeve head) of the time. The study attempted to develop the past costumes in 3D, providing the basis for interdisciplinary research in the field of fashion history field and suggesting a new approach for the virtual restoration of costumes. Future studies should target to 3D virtual simulation in accordance to the 3D avatar pose in the developed virtual costume.

  • In construction projects, the design information, which should contain accurate product information in a systematic way, needs to be applicable through the life-cycle of projects. However, paper-based 2D drawings and relevant documents has difficulties in communicating and sharing the owner's and architect's intention and requirement effectively and building a corporate knowledge base through on-going projects due to Tack of interoperability between specific task or function-oriented software and handling massive information. Meanwhile, computer and information technologies are being developed so rapidly that the practitioners are even hard to adapt them into the industry efficiently. 3D modeling capabilities in CAD systems are enormously developed and enables users to associate 3D models with other relevant information. However, this still requires a great deal of efforts and costs to have all the design information represented in CAD system, and the sophisticated system is difficult to manage. This research focuses on the transition period from 2D-based design Information management to 3D-based, which means co-existence of 2D and 3D-based management. This research proposes a model of a compound system of 2D and 3D-based CAD system which presents the general design information using 3D model integrating with 2D CAD drawings for detailed design information. This research developed an integrated information management system for design and specification by associating 2D drawings and 3D models, where 2D drawings represents detailed design and parts that are hard to express in 3D objects. To do this, related management processes was analyzed to build an information model which in turn became the basis of the integrated information management system.

  • This paper presents an approach for dynamic hand gesture recognition by using algorithm based on 3D Convolutional Neural Network (3D_CNN), which is later extended to 3D Residual Networks (3D_ResNet), and the neural network based key frame selection. Typically, 3D deep neural network is used to classify gestures from the input of image frames, randomly sampled from a video data. In this work, to improve the classification performance, we employ key frames which represent the overall video, as the input of the classification network. The key frames are extracted by SegNet instead of conventional clustering algorithms for video summarization (VSUMM) which require heavy computation. By using a deep neural network, key frame selection can be performed in a real-time system. Experiments are conducted using 3D convolutional kernels such as 3D_CNN, Inflated 3D_CNN (I3D) and 3D_ResNet for gesture classification. Our algorithm achieved up to 97.8% of classification accuracy on the Cambridge gesture dataset. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is efficient and outperforms existing methods.

  • This study examined the applicability of digital technologies based on three-dimensional(3D) scanning, modeling, and printing to the restoration of damaged artifacts. First, 3D close-range scanning was utilized to make a high-resolution polygon mesh model of a roof-end tile with a missing part, and a 3D virtual restoration of the missing part was conducted using a haptic interface. Furthermore, the virtual restoration model was printed out with a 3D printer using the material extrusion method and a PLA filament. Then, the additive structure of the printed output with a scanning electron microscope was observed and its shape accuracy was analyzed through 3D deviation analysis. It was discovered that the 3D printing output of the missing part has high dimensional accuracy and layer thickness, thus fitting extremely well with the fracture surface of the original roof-end tile. The convergence of digital virtual restoration based on 3D scanning and 3D printing technology has helped in minimizing contact with the artifact and broadening the choice of restoration materials significantly. In the future, if the efficiency of the virtual restoration modeling process is improved and the material stability of the printed output for the purpose of restoration is sufficiently verified, the usability of 3D digital technologies in cultural heritage restoration will increase.

  • Image-based 3D object detection is one of the important and difficult problems in autonomous driving and robotics, and aims to find and represent the location, dimension and orientation of the object of interest. It generates three dimensional (3D) bounding boxes with only 2D images obtained from cameras, so there is no need for devices that provide accurate depth information such as LiDAR or Radar. Image-based methods can be divided into three main categories: monocular, stereo, and multi-view 3D object detection. In this paper, we investigate the recent state-of-the-art models of the above three categories. In the multi-view 3D object detection, which appeared together with the release of the new benchmark datasets, NuScenes and Waymo, we discuss the differences from the existing monocular and stereo methods. Also, we analyze their performance and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of them. Finally, we conclude the remaining challenges and a future direction in this field.

  • In this study, the hardcore game user verified the manipulation delay that occurred during VR game play because of the experienced game. Based on the HCI - based research approach, we created a 2D, 3D, and VR prototype game with user manipulation cycle hypothesis. Based on this, 121 users were experimented with 2D, 3D, VR format user interface. The average user manipulation period extracted by the experiment was compared with the independent sample T test. Based on the test results give the average time difference between the user's operation of the 2D VR format has been verified. User operation period of the average time difference in 3D VR format proved the null hypothesis of no significant difference has been adopted.
