  • In the paper, we develop the ‘Navigation Mechanism’ that can present the 3D space and trace the location in the user's viewpoint. Especially, using this mechanism, VRML tools are used to develop the virtual reality space in the internet. These mechanism can effectively represent the 3D virtual reality space and apply the many 3D related parts like architefure, education, entertainment and so on.

  • The scale of the industry utilizing the Metaverse platform is gradually growing around the world. Fashion brands are also starting to utilize the Metaverse platform as a new market to replace the next e-commerce platform by targeting new consumers, MZ generation, and even Alpha generation. In this study, a real K-fashion designer's outfit was made into a 3D outfit using CLO 3D program to express it in a new market, the Metaverse 3D platform. It was then compared with a real outfit. An avatar prototype was completed using Max program to simulate the 3D digital fashion outfit and produce an avatar through an optimization process. The 3D outfits showed the same level of results as the actual outfits in terms of fabric surface, material texture, drapability, overall outfit, details, and trimmings. In addition, we proposed a 2D work on total styling suggestion and modeling to secure data sets for future AI-based styling services. In conclusion, this study revealed that actual outfits and 3D outfits had the same results. It is significant that it can be a sample work to build a styling data set through styling suggestion and content production as a significant amount of styling DB construction will be required before AI styling automation services.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose improvements for 3D garment simulation system by comparison with the difference between real garment and 3D garment simulation A, B of women's jacket. The process of the study was to take pictures on the standard sized subject wearing the jacket of basic size, to get a avatar from body sizes of the subject, and to obtain images of 3D garment simulation on the avatar. The appearance evaluation was resulted by the method of a questionnaire survey after presenting the images to 20 members of women's jacket customer. On that appearance evaluation, performed comparative analysis of same degree between the real garment and the Virtual garment A in women's jacket. And performed comparative analysis of same degree between the real garment and the Virtual garment B in women's jacket. It was done t-test for difference in appearance evaluation between real garment/virtual garment A and Real garment/virtual garment B. There were the differences on 4 areas: 1 question on the fabric, 9 questions on the front, 3 questions on the side, and 6 questions on the back.

  • Developing 3D games of quality is getting easier as commercial game engines have significantly evolved. It is still difficult, however, for entry-level developers to create various avatars which could affect the entire game because it requires expertise in 3D design and programming. We propose a design of an avatar assembly system based on a commercial game engine, Unity. It includes the assembly, customization, and management of avatars. It also provides an avatar update mechanism via the World Wide Web(WWW) provided by Unity's asset system so that various avatars can be supplied after the initial game distribution.

  • Human tracking is a requirement for the advanced human-computer interface (HCI), This paper proposes a method which uses a component-based human model, detects body parts, estimates human postures, and animates an avatar, Each body part consists of color, connection, and location information and it matches to a corresponding component of the human model. For human tracking, the 2D information of human posture is used for body tracking by computing similarities between frames, The depth information is decided by a relative location between components and is transferred to a moving direction to build a 2-1/2D human model. While each body part is modelled by posture and directions, the corresponding component of a 3D avatar is rotated in 3D using the information transferred from the human model. We achieved 90% tracking rate of a test video containing a variety of postures and the rate increased as the proposed system processed more frames.

  • In this paper, we propose a texture generation scheme for 3D avatars from three or more human face photos. First, we manually mark image positions corresponding to vertices of a given UVW map. Then, a face texture is automatically generated from the photo images. The proposed texture generation scheme extremely reduces the amount of manual work compared with the classical methods such as Photoshop-based schemes. The generated textures are photorealistic since the textures fully reflect the naturalness of the original photos. The texture creation scheme can be applied to any kind of mesh structures of 3D models and mesh structures need not be changed to accommodate the given textures. We created face textures from several triplets of photos and mapped them to 3D avatar faces. Experimental results showed that visual realism of avatar faces is much enhanced by the face textures.

  • As interest in the metaverse has grown, there has been a demand for avatars that can represent individual users. Consequently, research has been conducted to reduce the time and cost required for the current 3D human modeling process. However, the recent automatic generation of 3D humans has been focused on creating avatars with a realistic human form. Furthermore, the existing methods have limitations in generating avatars with imbalanced or unrealistic body shapes, and their utilization is limited due to the absence of datasets. Therefore, this paper proposes a new framework for automatically transforming and creating stylized 3D avatars. Our research presents a definitional approach and methodology for creating non-realistic character avatars, in contrast to previous studies that focused on creating realistic humans. We define a new shape representation parameter and use a deep learning-based method to extract character body information and perform automatic template mesh transformation, thereby obtaining non-realistic or unbalanced human meshes. We present the resulting outputs visually, conducting user evaluations to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. Our approach provides an automatic mesh transformation method tailored to the growing demand for avatars of various body types and extends the existing method to the 3D cartoon stylized avatar domain.

  • Fashion industry has tried to adopt the virtual garment technology to reduce the time and effort spent on sample creation. For garment manufacturers to adopt the virtual garment technology as an alternative to sample creation, 3D avatars that meet the needs of each brand should be developed. Virtual garment softwares that are available in the market provide avatars with standardized body models and allow to modify the size by manually entering size specifications. This study proposed a methodology to develop size specifications for 3D avatars as well as brand-customized production sizes. For this, a man's fashion brand which is using virtual garment technology is selected. And the Size Korea database is used to develop size specification based on the customers' body shape. This study developed regression equations on body size specifications, which in turn proposed a regression model to proportionately change size specifications of 3D fitting-models. Based on the each body size calculated by the regression model, a standard model is created, and the skeleton-skin algorithm is applied to the regression model to obtain the results of size changes. Then, the 3D model sizes are tested for size changes as well as measured, which verifies that the regression model reflects body size changes.

  • According to the activation of the fashion electronic commerce, this research investigated the merits and demerits and improvement plan of the 3D virtual try-on technology using the qualitative research method. This research was performed by interview with 70 evaluation group. The evaluation group of 3D virtual try-on was organized and the fit evaluation process by 3D human body scan and the 3D virtual try-on of the i-Fashion technology center were experienced. This study was performed by interview after the actual and virtual try-on about the casual shirt. The convenience and accuracy of measurement, usability in online shopping, body evaluation, complement of sizing system, and body shape management were discovered as merits. The requirement of high accuracy in sizing and avatar, limits of fabric expression, practical limitation by cost, vexatious of measurement garment, differences between real and virtual fittings, personal information leakage risk, and etc were pointed out as demerits. The mass customization, customized garment connected with medical service, humanized avatar, improved fitting report, entertainment, coordination, wardrobe manager were proposed as improvement plan.
