  • In this work, we proposed a low-complexity hybrid layered tabu-likelihood ascent search (LTLAS) algorithm for large multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. The conventional layered tabu search (LTS) approach involves many partial reactive tabu searches (RTSs), and each RTS requires an initialization and searching phase. In the proposed algorithm, we restricted the upper limit of the number of RTS operations. Once RTS operations exceed the limit, RTS will be replaced by low-complexity likelihood ascent search (LAS) operations. The block-based detection approach is considered to maintain a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) detection performance. An efficient precomputation technique is derived, which can suppress redundant computations. The simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed detection method is close to the conventional LTS method. The complexity analysis shows that the proposed method has significantly lower computational complexity than conventional methods. Also, the proposed method can reduce almost 50% of real operations to achieve a BER of 10-3.

  • The centrifuge test result on capped sediment was compared to the advection- dispersion equation proposed for one layered to predict contaminant transport parameters. The fitted contaminant transport parameters for the centrifuge test results were one to three orders of magnitude greater than the estimated parameters from the advection-dispersion equation. This indicates that the centrifuge model over estimated the contaminant transport phenomena. Thus, the centrifuge provides a non-conservative approach to modeling contaminant transport. It should be also noted that the advection-dispersion equation used in this study is a one layered model. Two layered modeling approaches are more appropriate for modeling this data since there are two layers with different partitioning coefficients. Further research is required to model the centrifuge test using two-layered advection-dispersion models.

  • A dynamic interaction analysis of an adjacent surface fecundation on a layered half-space is performed in the frequency domain. A semi-analytical approach is employed to reduce the integration range of the wavenumber in the surface fundamental solution for a layered half-space in boundary element (BE) formulations. The present study then adopts a combined boundary and finite element method to analyze the dynamic behavior of a system of flexible surface foundations on an elastic homogeneous and layered half-space. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the developed method. The examples show the feasibility of an extended application fur the complicated dynamic interaction of foundations on layered media.

  • In this study, double-layered TCO (transparent conductive oxide) films were produced by depositing two distinct TCO materials: $SnO_2$ works as an n-type layer and ITO (indium-doped tin oxide) serves as a transparent conductor. Both transparent conductive oxide-films were sequentially deposited by sputtering. The electrical and optical properties of single-layered TCO films ($SnO_2$) and double-layered TCO ($ITO/SnO_2$) films were investigated. A TCO-embedding photodetector was realized through the formation of an $ITO/SnO_2/p-Si/Al$ layered structure. The remarkably high rectifying ratio of 400.64 was achieved with the double-layered TCO device, compared to 1.72 with the single-layered TCO device. This result was attributed to the enhanced electrical properties of the double-layered TCO device. With respect to the photoresponses, the photocurrent of the double-layered TCO photodetector was significantly improved: 1,500% of that of the single-layered TCO device. This study suggests that, due to the electrical and optical benefits, double-layered TCO films are effective for enhancing the photoresponses of TCO photodetectors. This provides a useful approach for the design of photoelectric devices, including solar cells and photosensors.

  • Dynamic interaction analysis of surface structure on layered half-space is performed in frequency domain under incident wave excitation. This present study adopts a coupling method that combines the finite element(FE) for the flexible structures and boundary element(BE) for the layered half-space. A semi-analytical approach is employed to reduce the integration range of wavenumbers in the BE formula. For the incident wave input, the response is decomposed and formulated after the impedance matrix for the structure system. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the method. The examples show the feasibility of an extended application to the complicated dynamic analysis of structures on layered media under incident wave excitation.

  • In this study, a method to remove residual powder on a multi-layered graphene and a new approach to transfer multi-layered graphene at once are studied. A graphene one-step transfer (GOST) method is conducted to minimize the residual powder comparison with a layer-by-layer transfer. Furthermore, a residual powder removing process is investigated to remove residual powder at the top of a multi-layered graphene. After residual powder is removed, the sheet resistance of graphene is decreased from 393 to 340 Ohm/sq in a four-layered graphene. In addition, transmittance slightly increases after residual powder is removed from the top of the multi-layered graphene. Optical and atomic-force microscopy images are used to analyze the graphene surface, and the Ra value is reduced from 5.2 to 3.7 nm following residual powder removal. Therefore, GOST and residual powder removal resolve the limited application of graphene electrodes due to residual powder.

  • In layered communication architecture, each layer is designed to service its own functions to higher layer while getting serviced by lower layer. Usually layered architectures are not optimized in a total view of whole services and functions. So cross layer design pursues performance enhancements by optimizing in various ways. In LTE, MAC layer uses HARQ mechanism and RLC layer uses ARQ mechanism for retransmission. According to the 3GPP 36.331 specification, two layers' cooperation may not happen in an optimized way. This paper suggests an adaptive MAC layer approach which RLC layer's function might be initiated in MAC layer in advance to utilize MAC layer's idling wasting time for RLC layer's next decision. This adaptive ARQ method in MAC layer speeds up the next retransmission and reduces the overall transmission time. Emulation shows the improved performance in total retransmission time and retransmission success ratio. In wireless shadow area, the retransmission occurs frequently. Our approach has strong points in this poor wireless condition.

  • A moment-curvature relationship to simulate the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns under cyclic loading is introduced. Unlike previous moment-curvature models and the layered section approach, the unposed model takes into account the bond-slip effect by using a monotonic moment-curvature relationship constructed on the basis of the bond-slip relation and corresponding equilibrium equation at each nodal point. In addition, the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel gives more exact numerical result. The pinching enact caused by axial force is considered with an assumption that the absorbing energy corresponding to any deformation level maintains constant regardless of the magnitude of applied axial force. The advantages of the proposed model, comparing tn layered section approach, may be on the reduction in calculation time and memory space in case of its application to large structures.. Finally, correlation studies between analytical results and experimental studies are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed mood.

  • A geometric and material nonlinear finite element analysis is developed for the layered elastomeric bearings. In this study, a mixed variational approach with separate variables is used to describe the displacement and volume change of rubber. To represent finely deformed behavior, Kirchoff stress tensors are used and converted Eulerian stress tensors to describe real physical meanings. Newton's method is utilized to solve the governing nonlinear finite element equations. Numerical test are performed in the case of compression and shear to verify the theory and to illustrate the application of this analysis. And the results of this study were compared to the results of Moore's discrete finite element analysis.

  • The use of higher strength materials with the strength methed of design has resulted in more slender member and shallower sections. For this reason, it is necessary to satisfy the requirements of serviceability even though the structural safety is the most important limit state. This paper is only concerned with the control of deflections in the serviceability. In this study, an analytical model is presented to predict the deflections of reinforced concrete beams to given loading and environmental conditions. This model is based on the finite element approach in which a finite element is generally divided into a number of stiffening effect due to cracking, creep and shrinkage. Comparisons are made with available measured deflections reported by others to assess the capability of the layered beam model. The calculated values of instantaneous and long-term deflection show good agreement with experimental results in the range of tension stiffening parameter $\beta$ between 2.5 and 3.0.
