  • This study was conducted to investigate dynamic characteristics of agricultural tractor with a particular interest in ride vibrations when it is subjected to various excitation forces. As the first part of it this paper describes development of dynamic model of a tractor-trailer system and its equations of motions. An 3 dimensional 16-degree-of-freedom dynamic model for a tractor-trailer system was developed and its equations of motions were derived, which will be used to investigate the effects of irregular ground surface and excitation forces due to the engine mounted on the tractor. And the excitation forces were also formulated analytically. The transition matrix method and QR algorithm were proposed for numerical solution of the equation of motions fur the developed model. The later parts of the study will include a proof of the model and optimization from which tractors can be designed to minimize the ride vibrations. This will be presented in the second and third papers to be followed shortly.

  • In this study for reduction degree of freedom of dynamic model, a mixed method to combined finite element method and transfer matrix method is presented. This offers the advantages of an automatic reduction in the size of the eigenvalues problem and of a straightforward means of dynamic substructuring. The analytical procedure in this method for dynamic analysis of 3-dimensional cantilevered box beam are described. the result of numerical example is shown to demonstate the efficiency and accuracy of this method. The result form this example agree well those obtained by ANSYS, By using this technique, the number of nodes required in the regular finite element method is reduced and therefore a smaller com-puter can be used.

  • In this paper, design of a 3-degree-of-freedom mobile robot with three caster wheels is performed. Initially, kinematic modeling and singularity analysis of the mobile robot is performed. It is found that the singularity can be avoided when the robot has more than two wheels on which two active joints are located. Optimal kinematic parameters of mobile robots with three active joint variables and with four active joint variables are obtained and compared with respect to kinematic isotropic index of the Jacobian matrix of the mobile robot which is functions of the wheel radius and the length of steering link.

  • An experiment was designed to evaluate Fitts' law for the three-dimensional virtual pointing task and to compare the three input devices; Spaceball, Spacemouse, and 3D-Mouse. The result showed that Fitts law fitted poorly for the three-dimensional pointing tasks with relatively low coefficients of determinant. Three reasons, high degree-of-freedom, dynamic egocentric viewpoint change, and clutching problem were discussed to explain the poor fitness of Fitts' law. In terms of device comparison, the 3D-Mouse was superior to the other input devices. Also, the stereoscopic display significantly increased the performance. The results of this study can be used for the design of virtual control tasks and the selection of suitable input devices.

  • MPEG-I Visual group is actively working on enhancing immersive experiences with up to six degree of freedom (6DoF). In virtual space of 3DoF+, which is defined as an extension of 360 video with limited changes of the view position in a sitting position, looking at the scene from another viewpoint (another position in space) requires rendering additional viewpoints using multiple videos taken at the different locations at the same time. In the MPEG-I Visual workgroup, methods of efficient coding and transmission of 3DoF+ video are being studied, and they released Test Model for Immersive Media (TMIV) recently. This paper presents the enhanced clustering method which can pack the patches into atlas efficiently in TMIV. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves significant BD-rate reduction in terms of various end-to-end evaluation methods.

  • This study examines damping modification factors (DMFs) of elastic input energy spectra corresponding to a set of 116 earthquake ground motions. Mean input energy per mass spectra and mean DMFs are presented for both considered ground motion components. Damping ratios of 3%, 5%, 10%, 20%, and 30% are used and the 5% damping ratio is considered the benchmark for DMF computations. The geometric mean DMFs of the two horizontal components of each ground motion are computed and coefficients of variation are presented graphically. The results show that the input energy spectra-based DMFs exhibit a dependence on the damping ratio at very short periods and they tend to be nearly constant for larger periods. In addition, mean DMF variation is obtained graphically for also the damping ratio, and mathematical functions are fitted as a result of statistical analyses. A strong correlation between the computed DMFs and the ones from predicted equations is observed.

  • Conventional researches almost have been focused on the one dimensional inverted pendulum. Recently, Sprenger et al[2] have researched a two dimensional inverted pendulum Observing human's action to control an inverted pendulum, one can recognize that human uses a three dimensional metier including the up and down motion. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy logic controller(FLC) of a new three dimensional inverted pendulum system. We derive a dynamic equation of the mechanism including a 3-axis cartesian robot and a inverted pendulum. We propose a design method of a fuzzy controller of the yaw and pitch angles of a inverted pendulum. In the design, the redundant degree-of-freedom(DOF) of the robot ...

  • Most of Commercial Remote Center Compliance(RCC) devices have been designed using deforma ble structures. In this work, we propose another type of assembly devices which generate the compliance effec ts by attaching the compliances (or spring) at the prismatic joints of the griven mechainsm. First, the kinematic analysis for a parallel-type planar 3-degree-of-freedom mechanism is performed using modified transfer method of generalized coordinate. Then, compliance characteristics for the mechanism using prismatic joint compliances are investigated. In particular, when the system maintains its symmetric configuration, the mechanism is show n to have RCC points at the center of the workspace. Finally, sensitivity analysis around RCC points is perfor med.

  • Metal AM(Additive Manufacturing) has been steadily developed and that is classified into two method. PBF(Powder Bed Fusion) deposited in the bed by the laser or electron beam as a heat source of the powder material and DED(Directed Energy Deposition) deposited by varied heat source of powder and solid filler material. In the developed countries has been applying high productivity process of solid filler metal based DED method to the aerospace and defense sectors. The price of the powder material is quite expensive compared to the solid filler metal. A study on DED method that is based on a solid filler metal is increasing significantly although was low accuracy and degree of freedom.

  • This paper presents a parametric study and an optimal design of the ER-SFD supporting a rigid rotor system. An attempt is made to obtain the optimal design of an ER-SFD for a two degree-of-freedom rotor model. Such a simple model is used in order to get a better insight into the physics of the problem. A maximum whirl amplitude, supply pressure and voltage are considered, and a maximum whirl amplitude is minimized over a range of speeds and presented f3r some values of unbalance mass. The results presented in this paper provide important design information necessary to reduce a whirl amplitude of an ER-SFD.
