Second, the results revealed the moderation effect of parents reflection levels on the relationship between maternal childhood experiences by parents and parental role satisfaction. Finally, parental reflection levels were also seen to have a mediated moderation effect of parental reflection level from maternal childhood experiences to mother's reaction to negative emotions of their preschoolers through parental role satisfaction. These results indicate the importance of parental reflection and parental role satisfaction.

  • This study was conducted to prove the effectiveness of home-linked indirect smoking prevention education in early childhood in improving the awareness, skills, attitudes and willingness to protect themselves from smoking. 208 5-year-old children were recruited from three kindergartens located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Children in the experimental group received home-linked indirect smoking prevention education. Children in the comparative group, received indirect smoking prevention education in kindergarten. Children in the control group received general health education. The results revealed that all groups showed significant differences between pretest and posttest in awareness of second-smoke, attitudes and willingness to stop smoking. However, the skills to protect oneself from second-smoke showed a significant difference in the experimental group and the comparative group. The values of changes among the groups showed high increases in the order of experimental, comparative, and control groups. This shows that home-linked education had considerable positive effects on indirect smoking prevention.

For this purpose, data were collected by distributing questionnaire packets to 268 mothers of children aged 3-5 years who were enrolled in 7 early childhood education institutions in Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program. As a result of the study, first, there was a statistically significant difference in the overall belief according to the mother's personal characteristic, the educational level, and a significant difference in the sub-factor, living together, in the execution. Second, it was found that there was a significant positive correlation between all variables except for the relationship between social relation execution and the ability to regulate others, which is a sub-factor of emotional intelligence. Third, beliefs and executions in social relation were found to affect all emotional intelligence and pro-social behavior, except for the effect of social relation execution on the ability to regulate others. This study conducted an observation of sixty-four children of four years of age attending the kindergartens in the city of Seoul. Thirty-seven were classified in the experimental group and the remaining twenty-seven were in the comparative group. For the statistical analysis of the data collected, the t-test and the analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) were conducted. The findings of this research are as follows. The children of the experimental group who experienced science activities connected to physical expression demonstrated higher score than those of the comparative group in creativity. The result of the research indicates that science activities connected to physical expression, for children, enhances their creativity. Therefore, science activities connected to physical expression can be an effective approach for creativity of young children.

  • In this study of age differences in the correct judgment of relative size and size comparison strategies, 114 three-, four-, and five-year-old children were asked to judge the relative size of 2 figures. Findings were that older children judged size comparison more correctly than younger children. The 5-year-old children used the strategy of superimposition more frequently than younger children, though children in all age groups most frequently used the strategy of one sided comparison with one side of each figure touching the other. The strategy in which one figure is put on top another with a general shape adjustment led most frequently to correct judgment of the relative size of 2 figures.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dual readership represented in the use of picture books. The study was conducted through in-depth interviews and observation of 9 families including 5-year-olds. The findings of this study were as follows. First, mothers exercised their exclusive right to choose books for their children. They usually used online bookstores, libraries, or book rental shops by consulting other mothers or merchandisers. On the other hand, fathers and children seldom involved themselves in the selection of picture books. Second, children preferred interesting books, while mothers favored complete series of books, which were usually for educational purposes. Third, dynamic interaction between mother and child was occurred during their daily routine of reading picture books together. Five-year-olds seemed to be transitioning into independent readers, and mothers showed that they were also readers of picture books when they appreciated and enjoyed them.
