  • In this article, the linearity of single power amplifier is improved by suppress $2^{nd}$ and $3^{rd}$ harmonics at output port of high power amplifier and by cancelling of $3^{rd}$ IMD. The matching network in order to suppress harmonics consists of metamaterial like the CRLH. The $2^{nd}$ and $3^{rd}$ harmonics are suppressed over 27 dBc, respectively. A phase of generated $3^{rd}$ IMD at output of DPA (drive power amplifier) has changed in order to offset the $3^{rd}$ IMD of HPA (high power amplifier). The harmonics of the proposed PAM suppress over 6 dB than single HPA. The PAM has a 36.98 dBm of the output power, 21.6 dB of the power gain and 29.4 % of the PAE. The harmonics is a -53 dBc about PAM. This result indicate that a harmonic level is lower 20 dB than reference power amplifier.

  • We proposed new light guide panel (LGP) fabrication method exploiting laser-processed inner scatterers and surface pattern. The proposed method has achieved LGP performance improvement in both brightness and uniformity. The inner scatterers and surface pattern of grid type were fabricated with a 2nd harmonic Nd:YAG pulse laser engraving system and a $CO_2$ laser scanning system, respectively. In the implementation of LGP, inner scatterers was arranged in accordance with linear or curved pattern with changing density and surface pattern was engraved on the surface of an inner-scatterers embedded LGP. The increase of scatterers' density and the use of surface patterns in both linear and curved pattern provided high luminance and uniformity enhancement. While thecurved pattern incorporated with increased scatterers' density and surface patterns yielded brightness improvement with preserving good uniformity, the linear pattern showed highly localized brightness near the light entrance of the LGP. We can also observe that the uniformity was mainly determined by pattern of inner scatterers, and the brightness was improved by the higher density and the utilization of surface patterns. From the results, the use of laser-processed inner and surface patterns can be a potential alternative for efficient and simple LGP fabrication method.

  • To ensure a safe operation of the prototype KGT-74 kW small gas turbine, vibrational reliabilities of the compressor 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stages and turbine blades have been estimated and reviewed. FE analyses have been carried out to obtain the natural vibration characteristics of the blades, and impact modal testings have been performed on every each one of the blades to measure their 1st natural frequencies. Then, the Campbell diagram analyses have been carried out to judge the safety of the blades from resonant failures up to 6k harmonics. Results show that the compressor 1st stage blade is exposed to a potential resonant failure with 3k harmonic around a rated speed of 30,000 rpm but that the other compressor 2nd and 3rd stages and turbine blades are safe from resonant failures. Finally, 27,900 rpm is selected as the safe operation limit for the KGT-74 ㎾ gas turbine relative to the blade vibrations.

  • Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin fills were deposited onto the Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate by the pulsed laser deposition with the second harmonic wavelength (532 nm) of Nd:YAG laser. In order to determine the optimum conditions for the film deposition, the phase of the films were investigated as functions of ambient oxygen pressure, substrate temperature, and laser fluence. Also the chemical composition analysis was conducted for the PZT films deposited under various ambient oxygen pressure. When the distance between substrate and bulk PZT target is set to 20 mm, the optimum conditions have been determined to be 3 torr of oxygen pressure, 1.5 J/cm2 of laser fluence, and 823-848(±10) K range of substrate temperature. At these conditions, perovskite phase PZT films were obtained on platinized silicon. The chemical composition of the films is very similar to that of PZT bulk target. The physical structure of the deposited films analyzed by scanning electron microscopy shows a columnar morphology perpendicular to the substrate surface. Capacitance-Voltage hysteresis loop measurements show also a typical characteristics of ferroelectric thin film. The dielectric constant is found to be 528 for the 0.48 μm thickness of PZT thin film.

  • The non-destructive method using ultrasonic waves has been applied in many studies due to its low damage to the structure and its simple evaluation method and high precision. On the other hand, if the concrete is subjected to a high-temperature, the mechanical properties may be deteriorated due to the micro-crack network and the damage may be severe depending on the strength of the concrete. Therefore, this study attempts to evaluate the fundamental wave behavior of different strength ranges using the ultrasonic non-destructive method for concrete that has been subjected to high-temperature. As a result, the relative power of the fundamental wave was decreased as temperature increase. And it was confirmed that the 2nd and 3rd harmonics were generated at 110 MPa. However, to check the 2nd, 3rd harmonics 110 MPa or less, there is a need for further research considering the ultrasonic output, the output of the sender and receiver, and the appropriate frequency accordingly.

  • In this paper, we present the design, fabrication and measurement of high efficiency GaN HEMT power amplifier using harmonic matching technique. In order to achieve high efficiency, harmonic load-pull simulation is performed, that is, the optimum load impedances are determined at $2^{nd}$ and $3^{rd}$ harmonic frequencies as well as at the fundamental. Then, the output matching circuit is designed based on harmonic load-pull simulation. The measurement of the fabricated power amplifier shows the linear gain of 20 dB and $P_{1dB}$(1 dB gain compression point) of 33.7 dBm at 1.85 GHz. The maximum power added efficiency(PAE) of 80.9 % is achieved at the output power of 38.6 dBm, which belongs to best efficiency performance among the reported high efficiency power amplifiers. For W-CDMA input signal, the power amplifier shows a PAE of 27.8 % at the average output power of 28.4 dBm, where an ACLR (Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio) is measured to be -38.8 dBc. Digital predistortion using polynomial fitting was implemented to linearize the power amplifiers, which allowed about 6.2 dB improvement of an ACLR performance.

  • This study focused on modeling the behavior of the compressive stress using the average strain and ultrasonic test results in concrete. Feed-forward backpropagation artificial neural network (ANN) models were used to compare four types of concrete mixtures with varying water cement ratio (WC), ordinary concrete (ORC) and concrete with short steel fiber-reinforcement (FRC). Sixteen (16) $150mm{\times}150mm{\times}150mm$ concrete cubes were used; each contained eighteen (18) data sets. Ultrasonic test with pitch-catch configuration was conducted at each loading state to record linear and nonlinear test response with multiple step loads. Statistical Spearman's rank correlation was used to reduce the input parameters. Different types of concrete produced similar top five input parameters that had high correlation to compressive stress: average strain (${\varepsilon}$), fundamental harmonic amplitude (A1), $2^{nd}$ harmonic amplitude (A2), $3^{rd}$ harmonic amplitude (A3), and peak to peak amplitude (PPA). Twenty-eight ANN models were trained, validated and tested. A model was chosen for each WC with the highest Pearson correlation coefficient (R) in testing, and the soundness of the behavior for the input parameters in relation to the compressive stress. The ANN model showed increasing WC produced delayed response to stress at initial stages, abruptly responding after 40%. This was due to the presence of more voids for high water cement ratio that activated Contact Acoustic Nonlinearity (CAN) at the latter stage of the loading path. FRC showed slow response to stress than ORC, indicating the resistance of short steel fiber that delayed stress increase against the loading path.

  • In this paper, High Power Pulsed Amplifier with wide-band characteristic is implemented for L-band Navigational Aid(NAVAID). Due to the characteristics of L-Band NAVAID, implemented SSPA is demanded characteristics of high RF power, high linearity and high efficiency. Therefore, in this paper, efficiency characteristic is improved by modified class F technique. And linearity characteristic is improved by balance structure using hybrid coupler, $2^{nd}$ & $3^{rd}$ harmonic trap and anti-phase technique using non-linear characteristics of drive amplifier. Implemented SSPA shows that bandwidth of 300MHz, RF Output power of 1.5KW and efficiency of 55%.

  • Vespid wasps (Vespa spp.) are the most noxious pests on apiculture, resulting in significant economic losses. Early monitoring and management are the first step to prevent the damages from vespid wasps. In this study, the acoustic signals from wasps and honey bees were measured by a microphone with a preamplifier and an analog-digital converter. In frequency analysis of the acoustic signals from wasps and honey bees, there were differences between the two species. While the fundamental frequency of the wasps was analyzed to be about 100 Hz with the strong harmonic frequencies, that of the honey bees was about 200~250 Hz. The 2nd harmonic signals from wasp were strongest while the fundamental ones from honey bees were. These different sound features generated by wasps or honey bees might be applied to develop the early monitoring system of the incursion of wasps to the apiary.
