  • Vertical drains have been commonly used to increase the rate of the consolidation of dredged material. The installation of vertical drains additionally provides a radial flow path in the dredged foundation. The objective of this study develops a numerical model for 2-D axisymmetric non-linear finite strain consolidation considering self-weight consolidation to predict the effect of vertical drain in dredged foundation which is in process of self-weight consolidation. The non-linear relationship between the void ratio and effective stress and permeability during consolidation are taken into account in the numerical model. The results of the numerical analysis are compared with that of the self-weight consolidation test in which an artificial vertical drain is installed. In addition, the numerical model developed in this paper is the simplified analytical method proposed by Ahn et, al (2010). The comparisons show that the developed numerical model can properly simulate the consolidation of the dredged material with the vertical drains installed.

  • The nonlinear analysis was perforned for a 2-bay 2-story moment-resisting reinforced concrete plane frame with seismic detail using KDARC 2D program. The analytical models consist of the material model, the member model, the hysteretic model, and the damage model etc. The conclusion based on the results of analysis is as following. : (1) Story shear-displacement relationship is similar to the experiment result but from the energy point of view, the analysis relationship is similar to the experiment result but from the energy point of view, the analysis result was different from the experiment result. (2) Plastic hinges were found to occur mainly in beams at first story while all the columns had plastic hinges throughout the structure. (3) Failure mode is a little different from experiment result in the yielding mechanism. (4) Damage index isabout 0.25. This means that the degree of damage is moderate and can be repairable.

  • This paper proposes an efficient fault detection method for onboard degaussing coils which are installed to minimize underwater magnetic fields due to the ferromagnetic hull. To achieve this, the method basically uses field signals measured at specific magnetic treatment facilities instead of time-consuming numerical field solutions in a three-dimensional analysis space. In addition, an analytical design sensitivity formula and the linear property of degaussing coil fields is being exploited for detecting fault coil positions and assessing individual degaussing coil currents. Such peculiar features make it possible to yield fast and accurate results on the fault detection of degaussing coils. For foreseeable fault conditions, the proposed method is tested with a model ship equipped with 20 degaussing coils.

  • Quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) on the pre-emergency herbicidal activity and reactivity of a series of new O,O-dialkyl-1-phenoxyacetoxy-1-methylphosphonates (S) analogues against seed of cucumber (Cucumus Sativa) were discussed quantitatively using 2D-QSAR and HQSAR methods. The statistical values of HQSAR model were better than that of 2D-QSAR model. From the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) interaction between substrate molecule (S) and $BH^+$ ion (I) in PDH enzyme, the electrophilic reaction was superior in reactivity. From the effect of substituents, $R_2$-groups in substrate molecule (S) contributed to electrophilic reaction with carbonyl oxygen atom while X, Y-groups contributed to nucleophilic reaction with carbonyl carbon atom. And the influence of X,Y-groups was more effective than that of $R_2$-groups. As a results of 2D-QSAR model (I & II) and atomic contribution maps with HQSAR model, the more length of X, Y-groups is longer, the more herbicidal activity tends to increased. And also, the optimal ${\epsilon}LUMO$ energy, $({\epsilon}LUMO)_{opt.}$=-0.479 (e.v.) of substrate molecule is important factor in determining the herbicidal activity. It is predicted that the herbicidal activity proceeds through a nucleophilic reaction. From the analytical results of 2D-QSAR and HQSAR model, it is suggested that the structural distinctions and descriptors that contribute to herbicidal activities will be able to applied new herbicide design.

  • It has been shown that the vibrational response of a tire can be represented by a set of decaying waves, each associated with a particular cross-sectional mode shape in the region near the contact patch. Thus, it can be concluded that tires can be effectively modeled as lossy waveguides. It has also been shown that the sound radiation from tires is mainly from the region close to the contact patch. In consequence, it may be computationally efficient to analyze tire vibration and sound radiation in the region close to the contact patch by using a hybrid finite element model in which the cross-section of a tire is approximated by 2-D finite elements while an analytical wave solution is assumed in the circumferential direction of the tire. In this article. a hybrid finite element was formulated based on a composite shell model. The dispersion relations for sample structures obtained by using the hybrid FE model were then compared with those obtained by using a full, three-dimensional FE model. It has been shown that the FE analysis made using the hybrid 2-D finite elements yields results in close agreement with the three-dimensional model.

  • A three-dimensional (3D) full-dynamic damage model for ion implantation in crystalline silicon was proposed to calculate more accurately point defect distributions and ion-implanted concentration profiles during ion implantation process. The developed model was based on the physical monte carlo approach. This model was applied to simulate B and BF2 implantation. We compared our results for damage distributions with those of the analytical kinchin-pease approach. In our result, the point defect distributions obtained by our new model are less than those of kinchin-pease approach, and the vacancy distributions differ from the interstitial distributions. The vacancy concentrations are higher than the interstitial ones before 0.8 . Rp to the silicon surface, and after the 0.8 . Rp to the silicon bulk, the interstitial concentrations are revesrsely higher than the vacancy ones. The fully-dynamic damage model for the accumulative damage during ion implantation follows all of the trajectories of both ions and recoiled silicons and, concurrently, the cumulative damage effect on the ions and the recoiled silicons are considered dynamically by introducing the distributon probability of the point defect. In addition, the self-annealing effect of the vacancy-interstitial recombination during ion implantation at room temperature is considered, which resulted in the saturation level for the damage distribution.

  • In this paper, we Present two-dimensional (2-D) analytical model for predicting the magnetic field characteristic of slotless permanent magnet bushless motors. Results from the model are compared to those deduced from 2-D finite element analyses(FEA). It is shown that the radial magnetization and the parallel magnetization of permanent magnet can have flux density on coil, airgap and permanent magnet's surface.

  • A Linear induction electromagnetic(EM) pump of liquid metal fast breeder reactor(LMFBR) is used for the purpose that the liquid metal of high temperature is transported by EM force. This paper evaluates magnetic flux density necessary for transporting liquid metal, using analytical model of the linear induction EM pump. Using the 2-D finite element method(2-D FEM), magnetic flux density is estimated in consideration of a geometric model, electric parameter, and velocity of liquid metal. From the viewpoint of hydrodynamics, the results can be used for flow analysis of the liquid metal.

  • We propose a Cubic-Interpolated Pseudo-Particle Lattice Boltzmann method (CIP-LBM) for the convection-diffusion equation (CDE) based on the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) scheme equation. The CIP-LBM relies on an accurate numerical lattice equilibrium particle distribution function on the advection term and the use of a splitting technique to solve the Lattice Boltzmann equation. Different schemes of lattice spaces such as D1Q3, D2Q5, and D2Q9 have been used for simulating a variety of problems described by the CDE. All simulations were carried out using the BGK model, although another LB scheme based on a collision term like two-relation time or multi-relaxation time can be easily applied. To show quantitative agreement, the results of the proposed model are compared with an analytical solution.

  • The analysis of steel-concrete composite joints presents some particular aspects that increase their complexity when compared to bare steel joints. In particular, the influence of slab reinforcement and column concrete encasement clearly change the moment-rotation response of the joint. Starting from an energy approach developed in the context of steel joints, an extension to composite joints is presented in this paper that is able to provide closed-form analytical solutions. In addition, the possibility of tri-linear or non-linear component behaviour is also incorporated in the model, enabling adequate treatment of the influence of cracked concrete in tension and the softening response of the column web in compression. This methodology is validated through comparison with experimental tests carried out at the University of Coimbra.
